link-dest
Hi, I've seen the option --link-dest of rsync and this is nearly what I'm searching for. Problem for me is that if remotefile exists the link-dest gets not checked again and I want to be able to pass more than one link-dest to rsync. Has someone an idea for this? Lars

Hi! I am playing around with Asterisk and have a problem :-) (Asterisk-version: 1.2.4, chan_capi-cm-version: 0.6.4) I have a sip-phone at my desk and an ISDN-phone (independent of the Asterisk-server) in my living room, when I'm not at my desk, the sip-phone is switched off. Problems with computing an aggregated score
Hi all, I have a problem with computing a new variable as an aggregated score of other variables. Say, I have 10 variables for 1,000 observations (people). Every variable may have values between 0 and 8. What I would like to do is computing the mean of the individual top 3 values for every person. Online banking with Ruby on Rails?
I am wondering if it would be possible (and safe) to develop online banking or other security-related applications with Ruby on Rails, instead of using J2EE frameworks or .NET? Are there any particular implications needed to write e-banking apps with Rails? Security problems? So... is anyone developing these types of applications with RoR? Any advantage or disadvantage? Personal experiences are

Pros and Cons of R :GUI
R has very good GUI packages that I have used - R Commander RCmdr and Rattle rattle . Since I work on multiple packages with constraints of time, I almost always use the GUI rather go through the intricacies of command line . The log of these GUIs shows the relevant R command that was used, so you can actually learn the language also. I have written about the ease of learning R , if you begin

R-plots with 'complex' axis-labelling
Hi there, I want to create plots with some kind of 'complex' axis labelling of the form $\dot{V}$ and integrate those plots into a LaTeX document. What is the best way to go? I've figured out, that the 'plotmath' commands are somewhat limited (at least I wasn't able to get the $\dot{V}$ generated) and that plots with 'plotmath'-axes wouldn't export

How to sum values across multiple variables using a wildcard?
I have a dataframe called "data" with 5 records (in rows) each of which has been scored on each of many variables (in columns). Five of the variables are named var1, var2, var3, var4, var5 using headers. The other variables are named using other conventions. I can create a new variable called var6 with the value 15 for each record with this code: > var6=var1+var2+var3+var4+var5

What exactly IS the winbind daemon?
Hi, maybe this is a newbie-question, but ... here we go: I read the documentation for winbindd several times now but didn't get far. We run Samba as primary domain controller for several dozen clients and over 3000 users and never used winbind, so my question is quite simple: What does winbind provide and when do i need it? I assume that winbind is only used when i use samba as a client in

Dear list members, I have 982 quotations of a given stock index and I want to run a Ljung-Box test on these data to test for autocorrelation. Later on I will estimate 8 coefficients. I do not know how many degrees of freedom should I assume in the formula for Ljung-Box test. Could anyone tell me please? Below the formula: Box.test(x, lag = ????, type = c("Ljung-Box"), fitdf = 0)
