join chars in loops
Hi, Is it possible to create new vars in a loop For instance: for (i in 1:11) var'i' <- assign something output = var1 var2 ... var11 Is there a way to combine/join the value of 'i' to the string/char var in de loop. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/join-chars-in-loops-tp16895854p16895854.html Sent from the R help mailing list archive at

use list elements to subtract values from the dataframe
Hi, I have a dataframe wf existing of a header with different labels and beneath the values of those labels : wf: label1 label2 ... 0,45 0,21 0,10 0,45 .... .... I have a list fl <- c("label2","label3",..) Isn't possible to use the list elements in the list in order to subtract values from the dataframe? like : wf$fl[[1]] When I do in R I get :NULL

help with the use of mtext to create main title over multiple plots
I'm trying to use mtext to create a main title over multiple plots. Below is a simple self-contained example and my sessionInfo (I should note I've also tried this with R-2.8.1 with the same results). When I execute the code chunk below, I get the plots, but no title. I've tried this using the screen driver, pdf, and postscript. I've used different sizes of paper. I suspect I am

Drawing multiple plots on one page for publication.
Hi All, I have been using R for a while but only recently tried to draw quality plots for publications. I spent a few days tried to figure out how to draw multiple plots on a single page to a postscript or pdf file but not successful. The drawing is perfect OK if it is displayed on the screen using x11() device. E.g. x11() par(mfrow=c(2,2)) par(mai=c(0.5,0.3, 0.6, 0.4)) plot(x, y,

multiple plots per page using hist and pdf
Hello, I am puzzled by the behavior of hist() when generating multiple plots per page on the pdf device. In the following example two pdf files are generated. The first results in 4 plots on one pdf page as expected. However, the second, which swaps one of the plot() calls for hist(), results in a 4 page pdf with one plot per page. How might I get the histogram with 3 other scatter

Multiple plots in a single page and stripplot()
I want to make a 2x2 plot on a single page, using stripplot() and boxplot(). I tried the following two alternatives with mfrow() and layout(), but none of them worked. library(lattice) par(mfrow=c(2,2)) boxplot(X1 ~ Y, data=tst1, horizontal=T, las=1) boxplot(X2 ~ Y, data=tst1, horizontal=T, las=1) stripplot(Y ~ X1, data=tst1) stripplot(Y ~ X2, data=tst1) par(mfrow=c(1,1)) nf <-

mfrow is ignored by some plots
Hi all, I was just informed that the plots in the radial.plot family in the plotrix package do not plot correctly when using mfrow or mfcol to subdivide the plot window. I found one related message, an answer from Deepayan Sarkar to a question about lattice graphics, but that shed no light on this problem. If I invoke par(mfrow=c(2,2)) and run radial.plot a few times, the plots appears in

creating overall title for plots made with par(mfrow=c(2,2))
I'm making some plots on the same page and would like to include an overall title instead of individual main titles as they are similar and their x and y axis labels are sufficient to distinguish them. Is there a way to assign an overall "main" to this page of plots? Mark -- Mark W. Kimpel MD ** Neuroinformatics ** Dept. of Psychiatry Indiana University School of Medicine 15032

printing lattice plots
Hi I'm trying to print several plots to a multi-page postscript file. Some plots are output of basic commands, some are produced by "trellis" commands (from the package lattice). Right now I'm not able to get a straightforward black and white color scheme for the latter kind: when I open the postscript file the "trellis" plots are invisible, or parts of them are

Question about putting multiple plots on the same page
Hi, I met a problem when trying to put multiple plots on the same page. I have a plotting function (e.g., myfunction()) that contains the lines of par(), layout(). Now I want to try four types of parameter combinations and put these four figures on the same page. I tried par(mfrow or mfcol) and layout but no go. It seems split.screen is the right choice for me. But I always got the error message

Multi-plot figures with different numbers of plots in different rows
Dear all, I have 5 plots that I would like to include in a single figure, spread over two rows. If I use mfrow=c(2,3), and produce my plots one after the other, I will end up with three plots in the first row, and 2 in the second row, which is what I want. However, I would like the two plots in the second row to be moved to the centre of that row, rather than occupying the two left-most cells.

Multiple rms summary plots in a single device
I would like to incorporate multiple summary plots from the rms package into a single device and to control the titles, and also to open a new device when I reach a specified number of plots. Currently I am only getting a single "plot(summary(" graph in the upper left- hand corner of each successive device. However, in the rms documention I see instances of a loop being used with

How to put multiple plots in the same window? (not par(mfrow=))
Dear All, I am sorry if this question has been asked before. Below is my Question: I want to put several plots in the same window, but I don?t want the blank space between plots (like par(mfrow=)) --- that makes the plots too small. Could anyone tell me how to do it? Thanks a lot. Frank

multiple plots in a function()
Dear all, I have the following problem: I have written a function genereating to plots, eg myfunction <- (data, some.parameters) { #some calculations etc . par (mfrow=c(1,2)) plot1(......) plot2(.....) } which works fine. But for analysing several variants, I tried a slope, eg: par (mfrow=c(5,5)) for ( i in 1:10) { myfunction(data, i) } Off

multiple plots and postscript()
Kia Ora everybody. There must be an obvious answer to this, but I can't see it.... I want four square plots in one postscript file. The canonical answer would be: postscript(file="~/f.ps",width=5,height=5) par(pty="s",mfrow=c(2,2)) plot(1:19,xlab="") plot(1:19,xlab="") plot(1:19,xlab="") plot(1:19,xlab="") dev.off() But this

par(mfrow) for heatmap plots
Hi, I was trying to use par(mfrow) to put 4 heatmaps on a single page. However, I get one plot per page and not one page with 4 plots. What should I modify? Test code is given below: test = matrix(rnorm(60), 20, 3) pdf(file='test.pdf',width=10,height=8) par(mfrow=c(2,2)) heatmap(test) heatmap(test) heatmap(test) heatmap(test) dev.off() thanks! odfWeave: in multi-page plots only last page appears in document
Dear all, Max, first of all, many thanks for providing the odfWeave package. My problem: Whenever I have multiple plots in one single chunk of my ODF file, only the last plot gets shown. The problem can be reproduced with this toy example (to be used in an ODF file together with odfWeave -- I'm using the newest version 0.7.3): <<plot1, echo=FALSE, fig=TRUE>>= for (i in 1:3) {

par(mfcol=2, mfrow=3) equivalent for trellis
Dear friends of lattice, I know how to position trellis plots with print(...,split,more=T) or (...position). Sometimes I wish I had something like the old "par(mfcol=2, mfrow=3)" mechanism, where the next free viewport is automatically chosen. I tried fiddling with grid-viewports, but could not find an easy solution. Did I miss something? Dieter Menne
