Comments on commit 1406 (rakefile changes)
Alex,
The changes to the rakefiles are causing me some problems building on
OS X. I am getting the following:
rake aborted!
undefined method `+'' for nil:NilClass
/Users/sean/Archive/Programming/wxRuby_Dev/wxruby2/rakefile:109
I will now go test on Windows

Perplexing unit test issue
Because we''re now using views, I had to upgrade to mysql 5 on a
project using Rails 1.0. Updated my mysql gem accordingly (which
required upgrading xcode). Ruby 1.8.2, MacOS X (10.4.6)
Worked fine several times (even before updating the mysql gem, then
suddenly it just balked and stopped working, giving the spew below.
Have also dropped (and recreated) both the test and

Rake tasks fail silently, how to debug?
Hi,
I''ve been using backgroundrb with some success up to now, but now when
I do the start or setup tasks they just fail silently. Nothing in the
log, no .pid file, and nothing in the process list. Rake with -trace
just says,
** Invoke backgroundrb:setup (first_time)
** Execute backgroundrb:setup
Any hints on how I can get more verbosity, or thoughts on what might
be happening?

ANN: svn_conf generator -- making "svn import" easy and fun
Rails make it easy to start a new application. At the same time, import
a new project into Subversion is not that simple -- there are quite few
files that should be ignored.
I used to manually remove added log files and tmp/cache, tmp/sessions,
tmp/sockets files after the import and then go through the painful
process of setting svn:ignore properties.
There is an easier way -- simply

pp grammar test-files?
Hi,
I am working on some tools that read and write pp files, and I wonder
if there are some pp files available somewhere that can be used to test
a parser.
I am especially interested in if there are some tests written that
capture invalid syntax.

Rails failure after upgrade to 1.1.2
Greetings,
I tried upgrading Rails to 1.1.2 and now nothing is really working. In
connection to the Rails upgrade I upgraded my Ruby version to 1.9.0. I
also upgraded all my gem installs.
Since my old rails apps stopped working I tried generating a fresh one
, alas with the same result. Below I included the full trace when
trying to reach the app. Line 3 in application.rb is :

How do I override a method that's only invoked from a rake task
I want to override structure_dump in the MysqlAdapter class. (It
doesn''t dump some stuff I need for my implementation and I''m extending
it to do that.)
I know how to override methods in application code.
MysqlAdapter#structure_dump is called from the rake task
db:structure:dump, and I can''t figure out where to put the overriding
implementation so that it gets called

puppet 3.0.0 and hiera
Hi,
If I have understood it correctly, puppet 3.0.0 will include / require
hiera. In order to add support for hiera directly in Geppetto I
downloaded the puppet 3.0.0rc tarball expecting to find the puppet-hiera
functions, but they where not there.
What is the expected packaging going to be when 3.0.0 is released?
Where should I expect the hiera "parser functions" to be located?

setting up the SQLite database
I know this isn''t Python, but I''d like to get a view on the ''one
obvious'' way to set up an SQLite (or other) database and its location
per-app. I''ve got a bit lost with the Camping 2 changes and various
code snippets I have kicking around.

Capistrano/SwitchTower "current" dir deployment question
All,
I have successfully executed the "deploy" task in Capistrano/Switchtower
to establish a symbolic link named "current" which points to the current
version of my app. on my remote server.
My app. was already deployed to the existing Rails root directory (call
it "appname") though.
I have Apache fronting my app. through a virtual host whose doc. root is

I have a rails app on a debian server running lighttpd and I''m trying to
set up typo so that it also works (with a different url). I have 4 URLs

php.typo.com
I am starting lighttpd by going into the directory where my foo.com app
is and typing either ruby script/server or script/server -e production

net ads status stripped output
Hi all,
I have successfully joined a Ubuntu 20.04 (focal) machine to a
Active Directory domain using ADS. Running the `net ads status` command
does not output the information that I expect.
This is an example of running `net ads status` on a Ubuntu 20.04
(focal) machine running Samba version 4.11.6-Ubuntu.

RoR and Growing Pains
I have persuaded my company to move towards an RoR shop... from a PHP 5
(with in-house-built framework)... so the jump is not terribly bad. I''m
REALLY excited actually!
My problem: I am overwhelmed with all the setup Loops I have to jump
through to get RoR setup. I tried it on my current Apache 1.34 and
decided it''d be easier to make the Lighty (1.4.11) jump. So I did. I get

Weird Mongrel error: Not starting.
Hi list,
I have a problem with Mongrel which is really bugging me. I would really
appreciate any help that anyone can provide to help me in solving this
problem.
1. My setup:
Apache front_end with mod_proxy_balancer in front of 4 mongrel/rails
instances of my application.
Rails 1.2.5
Ruby 1.8.6
Mongrel 1.1.1
2. I noticed that the CPU consumption on my server was 100% being consumed
by ruby so I
