rolling sum (like in Rmetrics package)
Hello, I'm new to R and would like to know how to create a vector of "rolling
sums". (I have seen the Rmetrics package and the rollMean function and I
would like to do the same thing except Sum instead of Mean.) I imagine
someone has done this, I just can't find it anywhere.
Example:
x <- somevector #where x is 'n' entries long
#what I would like to do is:

Hi Kelly,
Try running 'iostat -xdmc 1'. Look for a single drive that has
substantially greater await than ~10msec. If all the drives
except one are taking 6-8msec, but one is very

x tick labels - sparse?
Hi,
I'm stuck on creating a plot with x tick labels for every Nth tick
mark - how is that done? I don't see a simple solution to this in
help(plot) or help(par) and what I've tried is not working, eg, the
following does not work, although it seems intuitive to me that it
should work:
x <- seq(-100,1000,25)
y <- x * x
% find all the x values that are multiples of 100

Both with column header names, how do I multiply them together please. I.e

Help With Post-hoc Testing
I am trying to do post-hoc tests associated with a repeated measures
analysis with on factor nested within respondents.
The factor (SOI) has 17 levels. The overall testing is working fine, but I
can''t seem to get the multiple comparisons to work.
The first step is to "stack" the data.
Then I used "lme" to specify and test the overall model.

lapply , mapply questions
Dear all,
i have a programming problem that should be simple, though i am stuck with it. Please note that this is not a specific geonames problem, though i use it as an example - it´s just a basic problem with lapply.
I use the geonames webservices with the R geonames packages which works almost smoothly.
I have a vector of Zipcodes and i want to do a geonames lookup for all of them, which

reliability, scale scores in the psych package
Dear Professor Revelle and R-helpers,
This is a two-part question: the first part is general, and the second
is specific to the psych package.
First question: In the past I've constructed composite variables from
questionnaire data by using rowMeans(), and then correlating items
with the scale using cor() as an informal check for "bad" items. Over
the weekend I decided to take a

histograms resulting from call to soil.texture
Hello,
Using the dataset below I produce a soil.texture plot (R code for this
included at the end). One will notice I have plotted the points based on
whether or not they are in a region called 'upstream' or 'downstream'. I'm
curious if there is a way to somehow extract counts of the number of points
(red points and blue points) falling within each classification (e.g. silty

Printing to PDF in for

I would like to ask if it is possible using pdf function or some other to
print plots in cycle such that every new plot is on new page.
like this
pdf(file="D:/Plot.pdf",width = 9.25,height=9.25,
family="Helvetica",pointsize=8,bg="white")
for (i in 1:10){
x <- seq(1,40,1)
y <- 2*x+1+5*rnorm(length(x))
hist(y,freq = FALSE)
plot(density(y))
}

Blank DateTime versus Nil DateTime
Hi!
These days I have been having trouble with a test that tried to test
DateTime functionality. I have discovered that a NULL DateTime is
auto-type casted to NIL by Rails.
My problem here is that I have a field :datetime and I want to allow
NULL datetimes but not wrong datetimes. With this validation if deadline
is wrong or if is is blank it returns true. How I can accomplish this?
