Stats 101 : lm with/without intercept
I am puzzled at the use of regression. I have a categorical variable
ClassePop33000 which factors a Population variable into 3 levels. I want to
investigate whether that categorical variable has some relation with my
dependent variable, so I go :
lm(Cout.ton ~ ClassePop33000, data=ech2)
Call:
lm(formula = Cout.ton ~ ClassePop33000, data = ech2)
Residuals:
Min 1Q Median 3Q

Partial aggregate on sorted data
Hi All,
I'm looking for ways to compute aggregate statistics (with the aggregate
function) but with an option for sorting and selecting a subset of the data
frame. For example, I have would like to turn this :
aggregate(myDataframe$TargetValue,list(SomeFactor =
myDataframe$SomeFactor),mean)
into something like
aggregate(myDataframe$TargetValue,list(SomeFactor =

png(type='cairo'): point symbols without boarders are not anti-aliased?
Hi,
It seems that anti-aliasing in png(type = 'cairo') is not well
supported for the point symbols without boarders, e.g. pch = 16. The
Cairo package works well, though. You can compare png() with
CairoPNG():

Legend on plots when using Cairo
Dear all,
I am trying to use the Cairo package to avoid some X11 issues and it
works very well. However, when I want to add a legend to my plots, I
receive an error message from Cairo:
> library(Cairo)
> CairoPNG(file="test.png")
> plot(1:100)
> dev.off()

This works fine. But:

icecast cluster
Hi all,
I'm looking for some documentation about icecast clustering. Is this feature
exists ?
Under this research, i would like to build a cluster to put a lot of
streaming channels under a virtual network ip.
Thanks

Cairo device won't output the PNG
Hi All,
I have been experiencing a strange issue ever since I upgraded my R and the packages. I cannot plot anything to the CairoPNG device.For an example:> Cairo(600, 600, file="plot.png", type="png", bg="white")> plot(1:10)> dev.off()will create an empty plot.png file. I am running R 2.12.1 (32bit) on Windows 7 (64bit).

Cairo package, png files within for loop are black?
Hello,
I am generating .png images using the Cairo package in a for loop
(looping on the number of zones, number of zones equals the number of
plots to create based on different zone data). When I run the R
script the .png files are created but they are all black? If I comment
out the for loop and force my zones to equal one the png file is created
correctly? Is there an issue with

Automatic anchors for text boxes
Hi All,
I'm struggling to add text automatically to plots. I have a series of
scatterplots that I have stored in a script because the underlying data
changes often and the plots need to be regenerated. I use the scatterplot
function (defined in Rcmd, I believe). When one of the variables is a
factor, a boxplot is drawn over the scatter of the other variable. In the
case where x is a

Question about ggplot2 and stat_smooth
I'm interested in creating a graphic -like- this:
c <- ggplot(mtcars, aes(qsec, wt))
c + geom_point() + stat_smooth(fill="blue", colour="darkblue", size=2,
alpha = 0.2)
but I need to show 2 sets of bands (with different shading) using 5%,
25%, 75%, 95% limits that I specify and where the heavy blue line is the
median. I don't understand how to do this with

ggplot: problem with fill option in stat_smooth()
Hi all,
I am using ggplot2 and continuing to find it very useful and pretty.
However, I am trying to create some graphics for publication that would be
included in an MS Word document (not my choice!) in Windows Vista.
The problem is that I want to use stat_smooth() to add an fitted linear
model line along with its 95% confidence band, but I cannot seem to get the
confidence band in a format

ggplot2: stat_smooth for family=binomial with cbind(Y, N) formula
With ggplot2, I can plot the glm stat_smooth for binomial data when the
response is binary or
a two-level factor as follows:

ggplot(Donner, aes(age, survived)) +
geom_point(position = position_jitter(height = 0.02, width = 0)) +
stat_smooth(method = "glm", family = binomial, formula = y ~ x,
alpha = 0.2, size=2)
But how can I

ggplot2: modifying line width and background fill color for stat_smooth()
In the example below, from
http://www.ling.upenn.edu/~joseff/rstudy/summer2010_ggplot2_intro.html
I'd like to make (a) the fitted line thicker and (b) change the
background fill color for the confidence
envelope around each fitted line to a low-alpha transparent version of
the same color used
for the separate fitted lines for GENDER, rather than grey for both.
How can I do this?

Exponential Smoothing for ggplot2's stat_smooth()
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way in which I could use ggplot's
stat_smooth() function for add an exponential moving average.
I was thinking that I could maybe use something like:
>myggplot + stat_smooth (method = 'HoltWinters( data , .9 , 0, 0)')
but my efforts were futile.
Perhaps there is a way to write my own custom method to throw into

text in boxplots
Hi All,
I can't get text to print on a boxplot using the 'text' command. 'mtext'
works, but not 'text'. Is it a matter of boxplots being drawn over text?
Pointers appreciated.
TIA,
YVes

Does one of you know if there is any way to combine a "nls" method in
