Build a Firewall (Can I learn to do this...)
Hi All, I have a home business circuit and I am gearing up to host my business affairs in my place. I have Comcast and 13 static IP's. I have an extra PIII 1U, 2 9gb SCSI, 1gb RAMm dual NICS. So I am wanting to build a firewall to front end my traffic. Assign one of my statics to it and have Comcast statically route my traffic to this IP. Then when traffic comes have it decide if it

Plugin refresh time
Hi there, I''m currently developing a plugin to do authentication and authorisation. In the init.rb file of the plugin I have this code:- $:.unshift File.expand_path(File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), ''lib'')) require ''open_advantage/authorisation'' ActionController::Base.send :include, OpenAdvantage::Authorisation and this is the skeleton of my

Samba 3.0 beta 3 issues
Hi there, I'm using Samba 3.0 beta 3 on RH 9 (connecting to a Windows 2000 domain, as a member server) and I'm having trouble keeping samba running reliably. At random times it seems to stop recognising names from the domain. Restarting winbind fixes the problem, but then it occurs randomly again, usually once or twice a day. At least once it has fixed itself after being broken overnight

Convert \n newlines to html <br>
I have a textarea that accepts a shipping address, so I need to convert newlines when it is displayed as html. I am new to ruby, and rails so an example would be appreciated. I want to do this in the ''display'', not the stored text if possible, since I use the newlines when generating a pdf. Thanks. charley -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Changing the onsubmit event using an RJS template
Hi there, I''m currently writing my first ROR application, and must say I''m loving the framework. Just a quickie, which people will probably instantly know the answer to. I''ve got a select box which I want to be able to add values to on the fly using AJAX. I''ve got the form all appearing and updating the database, however, what I want to be able to

Error La.svd(method="dgesvd") in R 2.4.0
I have just installed R 2.4.0 (Windows XP OS) and have tried to run code that had worked with previous versions of R. However, I now get an error message: Error in La.svd(iCmat, method = "dgesvd") : unused argument(s) (method = "dgesvd") The R NEWS page about the release and issue 6/4 of the newsletter states: La.svd(method = "dgesvd") is defunct. pam_winbind keytab permissions question
Hi! I found this old message (see below) in the Samba mailing list archives. I understand why it is not a good idea for the krb5.keytab file to be world readable (machine credentials should not be world readable), but I would appreciate if someone could explain why it needs to *group* readable? Thanks, J. ________________________________ Question: Should the system keytab need to be world

Adding points to wireframe
Hi, I am using function wireframe from package lattice to draw a 3D surface. I would like to add a few points on the surface. I read in a post from Deepayan Sarkar that "To do this in a wireframe plot you would probably use the panel function panel.3dscatter". Does someone have an example? When calling panel.3dscatter with only x, y and z arguments I get "argument

3dscatter for linux
Hi, do you have any suggestions how to make 3D scatterplot, BUT under linux. Worth mentioning is the fact that 'scatterplot3d' does not load under Ubuntu 8.10. Do you know any alternatives?? I tried cloud or persp but X,Y and Z axes are emprical in my case, and cannot be replaced by any seq(...). Thanks in advance, robert -- View this message in context:

lattice package: line end style
First, apologies for no example data but I don't think it's needed in this case, Q: Can (and if so how ) the line end style be changed for 'cloud' plots? I've tried par(lend=2), trellis.par.set(add.line = list(lend=2)) and much googling but to no avail Thanks in advance Dan P.S. the reason for this is that the round end looks bad at lwd=3 or more Daniel Alcock Malaria

lines in 3d-cloud plot (lattice)
Hi all, I'd like to plot a set of data (x,y,z) as 3D-cloud, and add several line plots to the same 3D graph: Two questions: 1) How do I connect points to get a line? > cloud(z~x*y,data=d,zlim=c(0,1)) # works > cloud(z~x*predict(l),data=d,zlim=c(0,1),type="l") # type="l" doesn't Warning message: type = l not implemented, consider using

Lattice 3d coordinate transformation
Hello List! I asked this before (with no solution), but maybe this time... I'm trying to project a surface to the XY under a 3d cloud using lattice. I can project contour lines following the code for fig 13.7 in Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice, Multivariate Data Visualization with R", but it fails when I try to "color them in" using panel.levelplot. ?utilities.3d says there

Lattice: correct use of ltransform3dto3d to plot a surface under a cloud ?
Hello list! I am trying to project the fitted surface to a 3d plot of the data, similar to figures 13.7 or 6.5 in Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice, Multivariate Data Visualization with R", but replace the contour/map lines with "levelplot". Problem is I can't get the color regions to line up after the coordinate transformation. Is there a simple solution my geometry

lattice: wireframe "eats up" points; how to make points on wireframe visible?
Dear expeRts, I would like to add two points to a wireframe plot. The points have (x,y,z) coordinates where z is determined to be on the wireframe [same z-value]. Now something strange happens. One point is perfectly plotted, the other isn't shown at all. It only appears if I move it upwards in z-direction by adding a positive number. So somehow it disappears in the wireframe-surface

3d cloud plot with point size reflecting variable value
Hello all, I'm using the cloud function to plot the iris data as per the document: http://www.stat.ucl.ac.be/ISpersonnel/lecoutre/stats/fichiers/_gallery.pdf I'd like to change the point size to reflect a fourth variable, as done here http://www.cis.hut.fi/projects/somtoolbox/download/pics2/shotvs2_origdata.png Does anybody know how to do this? Two questions about cloud().
(1) Is there a (simple) way of getting cloud() to do *both* type="p" and type="h"? I.e. of getting it to plot the points as points *and* drop a perpendicular line to the underlying plane? (2) Is there a way of telling cloud() to drop its lines to the floor of the bounding box, rather than to the plane z=0? I thought that the "zero.scaled" argument (for

adding points to a wireframe
A quick question. I'm trying to plot a surface from a fitted model along with the original points, as in the following example: df<-data.frame(expand.grid(100*runif(1:100), 100*runif(1:100))) df$Var3<-rnorm(length(df$Var1), mean=df$Var1*df$Var2, sd=10) my.lm<-lm(Var3 ~ Var1*Var2, data=df) my.fun<-function(x,y) predict(my.lm, data.frame(Var1=x, Var2=y),
