package.contents() deprecated, what replaces it?
Back on 18-June a colleague (Earl Glynn) asked: ================== I did a ?package.contents in version 1.9.0. The help file says this is deprecated, and says to "see also" Deprecated and Defunct, but what is the "new" function that replaces packge.contents? The function still seems to work, but it's just tagged as deprecated. efg ================== I have the

Discrepency between confidence intervals from t.test and computed manually -- why?
I am sure there is something simple here I am missing, so please bear with me. It concerns the computation of the confidence interval for a population mean. The data are 125 measurements of Cs137 radation, a sample data set from Davis "Statistics and Data Analysis in Geology" 3rd ed. (CROATRAD.TXT) ------------------ method 1: using textbook definitions: mean \pm se_mean * t-value mu

Missing data problem and ROC curves
Hello all, Trying to get this piece of code to work on my data set. It is from http://www.itc.nl/personal/rossiter. logit.roc <- function(model, steps=100) { field.name <- attr(attr(terms(formula(model)), "factors"), "dimnames")[[1]][1] eval(parse(text=paste("tmp <- ", ifelse(class(model$data) == "data.frame", "model$data$",

arrows()/log scale/clipping (?) (PR#1039)
arrows() seems to hang when either x or y scale of the plot is logarithmic and the arrows requested go beyond the plot (by more than a certain amount). I didn't go into C code to find it, but here's a function that exercises the bug a bit ... arrow.bug2 <- function(y0=1,y1=10,log="y") { plot(c(0.1,1),c(1,10),log=log) arrows(x0=0.5, y0=y0, x1=0.5,

Sweave: R chunk inside caption?
Hi Folks, I'm surprised, but I didn't find this question addressed anywhere. I'd like to generate a LaTeX caption with R code. I've tried the code below, but I get the following TeX error: ! Argument of \@caption has an extra }. <inserted text> \par l.21 } Any thoughts? Perhaps I'll have to write the "\caption{}" text with R? thanks!

Spatial Statistics using R
I am looking for online courses to learn Spatial Statistics using R. Statistics.com is offering an online course in December on the same topic but that schedule doesn't suit mine. Are there any other similar modes for learning spatial statistics using R??? Can someone please advice??? Thank you. Ravi -- View this message in context:

[LLVMdev] Is this a bug in clang?
Hello, Is this a bug in clang, or a bug in my thinking? /Joe Armstrong /* When I compile the following program I get different answers in clang and gcc. $ gcc bug2.c $ ./a.out j = 40 $ clang bug2.c $ ./a.out j = 41 I think the correct answer is 41. If my understanding of C is correct (which, or course, it might not be) the incremented value of i++ is first made available

[LLVMdev] Is this a bug in clang?
This code is undefined, meaning that all bets are off, don't do it. I.e. It reads the value of I between two sequence points and uses it for something other than determining the value written. So... Are 40 and 41 the only legal behaviors or are there more? Sweave question - Setting Soutput code chunks to stay inside page margins?
Hello all, Sometimes I get to make an R code chunk (in Sweave) which is longer then the margins of the page. Is there a way to force it to "go to the next line" (in Sweave) once that happens? Here are two cases this happens in the resulting .tex file (one is a "hard" case, and the other is simpler) \begin{Schunk} \begin{Sinput} >

[R] proposal: lattice/levelplot: panel.catlevelplot
I suggest to add a panel function to levelplot (or perhaps to an other 3d lattice function) which is able to translate the z values into the size of the rectangles. It could be used to display categorical data. I append the proposed code and two examples: - panel.catlevelplot() - example1.catlevelplot.esoph() - example2.catlevelplot.esoph() Wolfram Fischer #------ CODE

reformatting R scripts for htmlize()
Hi! I have a bunch of (mainly class) R scripts that I would like to convert into html pages (although if someone thinks that what I want to do is easier with latex or pdf, please tell me). Considering the format of my files, htmlize() seems the best option. The only problem is that I would need to write graphics to a file, thus converting parts like: plot(sel$hora, sel$COD_SP_C) #and check the

should we have IR intrinsics for integer min/max?
Hi - The answer to this question may help to resolve larger questions about intrinsics and vectorization that were discussed at the dev mtg last week, but let's start with the basics: Which, if any, of these is the canonical IR? ; ret = x < y ? 0 : x-y define i32 @max1(i32 %x, i32 %y) { %sub = sub nsw i32 %x, %y %cmp = icmp slt i32 %x, %y ; cmp is independent of sub %sel = select

Force evaluation of variable when calling partialPlot
Greg, Two thoughts: 1. It might be possible that 'vars' is a reserved word of sorts and if you change the name of your vector RF might be happier 2. A way that works for me is to call importance as follows: sel.imp <- importance(sel.rf, class=NULL, scale=TRUE, type=NULL) and then use the 'names' of the imp data frame to be absolutely clear to RF you are talking about the

What determines the order of rows in a lattice barchart?
Hi, What determines the order of the rows in a barchart? Cheers, Geoff. Here is my code, and the data follows. If I have z in alpha order, the barchart is in some order I can't determine. I originally tried rownames(twater)~twater$Cat, but the chart wasn't in rownames(twater) order either. library(lattice) twater<-read.csv("totalwater.csv",strip.white=T)

should we have IR intrinsics for integer min/max?
Thanks, Hal and Matt for the feedback. As usual, my instincts about canonicalization were probably wrong. :) I thought that @max1 vs. @max3 would be viewed as an unknowable trade-off between reducing the dependency chain and the pseudo-canonical min/max form, so we'd add intrinsics, and defer that decision to the backend. I'll wait to see if there are any other arguments presented.

[LLVMdev] passing vector of booleans to functions
Hi all, I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to pass vector of booleans to other functions. Take this small example: define <4 x float> @vcmp_add(<4 x float> %a, <4 x float> %b) { entry: %cmp = fcmp olt <4 x float> %a, %b %add = fadd <4 x float> %a, %b %sel = select <4 x i1> %cmp, <4 x float> %add, <4 x float> %a ret <4 x
