Help With Sweave:
Hi All,
I am running Ubuntu Feisty (7.04) on a Thinkpad T41. I've installed
the nowebm package for Ubuntu. Working from this HowTo:
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~leisch/Sweave/example-1.Snw
I try to compile the example *.Snw as in the Sweave manual:
mdj at lapmdj:~/Desktop/Sweave/example1$ noweb example-1.Snw

Despite the error, a *.tex file is produced. Now I am

rpm build difference?
I noticed a strange thing on my CentOS 4 workstations today.
Immediately after installing the tetex suite (tetex-xdvi tetex-dvips

package inconsistencies:

\middle in Rd.sty conflicts with newer LaTeX?
Rd.sty defines
\newlength{\middle}
which seems to be in conflict with the my latex installation.
Here is a minimal example:

It runs fine on a Linux box:

latex problem with Sweave output file under Debian
Could someone tell me how to end the trouble I'm encountering when
running latex on the .tex file produced by Sweave()? Sweave() seems to
process the example file
(http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~leisch/Sweave/example-1.Snw) without
problems, and the file example-1.tex produced is the same as in the Sweave
manual. However, when I run latex on example-1.tex, many error messages

[Hmisc] Latex to pdf
I would like to print some tables and figures to a PDF device on a CentOS 5
vps. However, I cannot seem to get the latex function from Hmisc working. I
followed the example, and got an error: sh: xdvi: command not found. I tried
installing the 'tetex-xdvi' linux package, and now it returns: Error: Can't
open display. I guess the reason for this is that the machine is a VPS
terminal, so

I'm having trouble reproducing this one. In my fresh CentOS 7 VM, I can
pull the pkgKitten source down, and run R CMD Rd2pdf

Patch to coplot.R

Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii
Hello,
and a big thank you for providing R!
Please find attached a diff for coplot which you may want to consider
for the next release. The diff is against R 1.2.2. The reasons for this
patch are:
1. The boxes of coplot did not align very well with the panel graphs if
applied to a factor
2. Putting the

You didn't give me some packages, so now I'm giving you some! R, TexLive, LyX, Gnumeric, etc.
I want up-to-dateish versions of TexLive, R, gnumeric, emacs, but on a
more-or-less stable base of Centos-5.2. I asked for packages in this,
but got no answers. So now I've built them and will let you try them
if you want. I used the source packages from Fedora 8 and 9.
I wanted TexLive because many of us have jumped ship to Ubuntu Linux
8.04 and it does offer TexLive, and the compatability

potentially nasty interaction between R 1.8.0 and tetex
I've been having problems building vignettes in bioconductor packages
with R-devel. Turns out that Rdevel/share/texmf/hyperref.cfg wants
Blue and Red predefined, when only blue and red are defined (as of
rsync Rdevel, Sept 10th). This is on a Debian unstable system (Sept
9th version). Might not apply to all other tetex systems. Seems to
have bitten the bioconductor build system, though.

problem building dvi and pdf documentation on Darwin 10.2.6
I just installed R-1.7.0 on Darwin 6.6 (a.k.a. MacOS 10.2.6).
'make' and 'make check' run without any problems. 'make info'
builds with no complaints, but 'make dvi' and 'make pdf' fail.
I get refman.dvi and refman.pdf OK (with some warnings from
pdftex that some names are referenced that do not exist), but
R-FAQ.{dvi,pdf} fails as shown below. Attempts

metafont on CentOS 5?
Can someone hit me with the appropriate clue-by-4?
is there an available package for CentOS5 which provides the metafont command, or a replacement?
What is the name and which repo? please.
I have a font bundle I need to use (which is not provided in an RPM that I can find), but metafont
does not seem to be available.
tetex provides the /usr/share/texmf/metafont directory structure, but not a

Error when creating layouts with partly filled pages within lattice
Dear all,
Please take my apologies if that has already been asked
- at least I couldn't find it in the archives.
When trying to specify a layout within library lattice,
i.e. using xyplot, I get an error when the prepanel
function tries to subscript the automatically generated
x.limits. This seems to appear if the last page wouldn't
be filled completely, i.e. there would be space left

CentOS 7 issues with pdf manual / tex conversion
On a CentOS 7 machine, I am at a loss with respect to an inability to run a
full R CMD check as anything involving tex files ends in tears.
We followed the README at CRAN and installed a large number of tex-live
packages on this machine. But when a manual is created, we end up with what
follows below. Here, I chopped some of the error messages, the key seems to
be 'Insufficient extension
