Design and Hmisc
I'm looking for design and hmisc version 2.0 for R 1.8 for windows. I've
found design 2.0 in the downloads for R1.7 but not hmisc.
I've also checked Dr. Harrell's site and it only goes to 1.6 for windows.
Any thoughts?

2 functions with same name - what to do to get the one I want
There seems to be 2 functions call ecdf...
http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/S/Harrell/help/Hmisc/html/ecdf.html
http://127.0.0.1:11885/library/stats/html/ecdf.html
How do I get the one ecdf {Hmisc} to run instead of the ecdf {stats}
A pointer in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Tried to instal Hmisc but got this message, so I assume I have it

write a library under 2.0.1 version
Hi there,
I had written a library under R 1.9.0 and now I would like to import that
library under R 2.0.1
Apparently it does not work; I can install the package, but when I try to
read it the error is the following:
Error in library(compvar) : 'compvar' is not a valid package -- installed
< 2.0.0
I have checked other libraries in R 2.0.1 and I noticed that there is a

Dear R-users:
I am trying to use the following code to reproduce the figures on page 140

Convert "RDX" and "RDB" to ASCII format?
Dear R users and experts,
I need to modify an exisiting R function from a package. The function/
variable is inside a namespace and I have problems accessing it.
I only need to get access to to corresponding sourcecode. I localised
the "RDX" and "RDB" files. But it seems to be a binary format.
How can I convert it to an ASCII format to open and extract the code
from a text

executing from .R source file in the src package
Can I run R code straight from R src (.R) file instead of .rdb/.rdx? I of
course tried simply unzipping tar.gz in the R_LIBS directory but R complains
with "not a valid installed package".
Real issue: I am very new to R and all, so this could be something basic.
I'm trying to use ess-tracebug (Emacs front-end to trace/browser et al).
It works great when I trace functions in .R

Release of Design library; update of Hmisc library
The Design library has been fully ported to R except for Cox proportional hazards regression modeling (using Therneau's survival package) which will be available in about two weeks. It will take much longer to make all the example code executable, is it currently contains many examples for which data are not provided. Thanks to Xiao Gang Fan <xiao.gang.fan1 at libertysurf.fr> who

Sweave: trouble controlling Design package startup output
Hello, everybody:
I'm experimenting more with Sweave, R, and LyX. There's now an entry
in the LyX wiki on using R, so anybody can do it!
http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyxWithRThroughSweave
Now I notice this frustrating thing. I think I've done everything
possible to make the Design library start up without any fanfare:

library(Design, verbose=F)

opening RDB files
Hi all,
I've recently upgraded to R version 2.1.1 and when trying to inspect the
contents of many packages in the library (for instance library\MASS\R) I've
realized wordpad, or the notepad, won't open them since they have *.RDB and
*.RDX extensions which these editors cannot recognize.
However, libraries in previous versions of R did not have these extensions
and I could inspect

unknown compression
Hello, I am trying to modify some functions in an existing package. I can get a function by just typing the name in the console, but how can I get all the functions in a package? the ./R/ subdirectory has files xx.rdb and xx.rdx which I can not decompress with 7-zip or with unzip, unrar etc. The help files are compressed with gzip in the ./man/ folder and can be unzipped easily.
Thanks for your

"Missing links": Hmisc and Design docs
Hi folks,
Using R Version 1.6.2 (2003-01-10)
on SuSE Linux 7.2,
I just installed Hmisc_1.5-3.tar.gz and Design_1.1-5.tar.gz
These were taken from
http://hesweb1.med.virginia.edu/biostat/s/library/r
Checked the dependencies:
Hmisc: grid, lattice, mva, acepack -- all already installed
Design: Hmisc, survival -- survival already installed, so
installed Hmisc first
All seems to go

Harrell's library
Hi everybody.
I'm studying the Harrell's book on regression modeling strategies, and I'd
like to replicate the examples using R (instead of S+). So how's going the
porting of the hmisc and design libraries? Are there available, though in
beta version?
TIA,
Stefano Calza

Package Install "Design" fails on Ubuntu 8.04
Dear All,
I am running a Ubuntu 8.04 System and trying to install the
Design-package. Hmisc is already installed, all fortran compilers and a
Tex-Package are also on board. I searched the net and the help list for
analogue threads, but didn't find any.
Whenever I run the install.packages("Design")-Command, the following
error message shows up in the terminal window:

Rebuild package on R 3.0.0 without source code?
R-developers,
I have a binary R package built using R 2.14.1 that I would like to run on R 3.0.0. Unfortunately, the original source code is unavailable, so I cannot rebuild the package as R 3.0.0 requires.
Is there a straight forward way of converting the package (.rdb, .rdx and .rds files) in the binary package from a 2.14.1 version to a 3.0.0 version without the source code (perhaps

Function "Varcov" in Design (Ver. 2.2-0) package
Hi,
I'm running into an error message for the "anova"-function I never got
before with the Design (Version 2.2-0) package.
There seems to be a missing function "Varcov", please check my
function calls (it's in german but I think you get the error):

Help understanding lrm function of Design library
Hi,
I'm developing an experiment with logistic regression.
I've come across the lrm function in the Design library.
While I understand and can use the basic functionality, there are a ton
of options that go beyond my knowledge.
I've carefully read the help page for lrm, but don't understand many of
the arguments and optional return values.
