Locfit
Dear,
I am doing some statistics analysis using R software. I am currently trying
to implement your library locfit. I am using Win NT and R1.1.1 version
obtained on the following Webmaster :
http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/ms/departments/sia/project/locfit/index.html
When trying to run it, the following message appears:

linking object files
Dear friends. I would like to link an object file made in C. Dyn.load rather wants to link a whole library and I only wanted to link this small object file. I followed instructions given for S - by Clive Loader in his software for changepoint handling and it is his object file I made from http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/ms/departments/sia/clive/smcp.shar
Any dirty tricks or easy oversights ?

dbinom and Catherine Loader
Hi Folks,
There has been past correspondence regarding Catherine Loader's
Bell Labs (oops, Lucent) paper
"Fast and Accurate Computation of Binomial Probabilities"
which gives the algorithm on which R's dbinom() is based.
The original URL given in the R documentation "?dbinom" is:

Cook-distance-type plot (vertical bars)
Hi,
Figure 13 of Emmanuel Paradis's "R for Beginners" was produced by termplot
working on an aov object. The lower right-hand plot is labelled "Cook's
distance plot", and I'd really like to produce a similar type of figure,
but in a totally different context. (I'm not even sure what this kind of
figure is called, perhaps an "impulse plot", where

Build problem with R-1.4.1 on AM64/Linux
Hi,
I get the following errors while building R-1.4.1 on AMD64/Linux (SuSE
9.1). R-2.0.1 compiles fine though. I'm building R-1.4.1 because I need to
install SNet (available at
http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/ms/departments/sia/InternetTraffic/S-Net/SNet_1.0.zip).
The errors I get are:

GIS and R
Dear All,
Does anyone know of any GIS packages for R? I know that there are
GIS facilities for S-Plus (eg Arc Info), and am looking for freeware
equivalents.
Best wishes,

robust mixed effects models
I'd like to apply the ideas of
Pinheiro et al. (1997): "Robust Estimation in LInear Mixed Effects Models
using the Multivariate t-Distribution" and I'm wondering if the EM-based
estimation described in that paper has been implemented by somebody in R
already (I'm assuming it's not yet available within the package nlme --

wafer map drawing
Hello R-Users!
Does anyone know of a package to draw/analyze silicon wafer maps?
Here are some examples
http://www.java2s.com/Code/Java/Chart/JFreeChartWaferMapChartDemo.htm
http://dp.pdf.com/site/products/wafermap/binmap.html
I've google'd and searched CRAN with no luck.
It seems possible for R, given the hexbin and hist2d graphs I saw at the
Graph gallery.

Query: What is 'Trellis'?
I'm an R-beginner and have found the function 'panel.mathdensity' in the full manual. R can't find the function and under 'Description' in the manual it says that they "are available in Trellis". What is it and where can I find the function?

Test for trend?
Hello R community,
I would like to test for learning effects by subjects in my experiment. Each subject participates in six consecutive auction rounds of the same treatment.
The response variable is the efficiency of an auction outcome measured by a real number. Since the efficiency increases over the six rounds, I suppose that subjects learn about the rules of the auction institution, but I

Processing calendar dates with R
I am a beginner in R with a background in SAS.
Are there built-in R methods of reading dates for calculating elapsed days
between two calendar dates? If so, are there any examples I can browse?
Thanks in anticipation.

locfit version for windows NT version of R
Hi there,
I want to install locfit in R for Windows NT. I have recently downloaded
the file locfit.zip from
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R/bin/windows/windows-NT/contrib/
but it doesn't include any explanation on how to do the installation.
Have anybody done this? If so I'd really appreciate your help.
Cheers,
Oscar

annoying static when calling from legacy PBX -> * ZAP interface
Hi all.
I've got an Auerswald 4410USB (
http://www.auerswald.de/int/products/c4410usb.htm ) which I connected
to my 2nd ZAP interface (s0 <-> Zap) via Crossoverr ISDN cable (which
I crimped myself, I guess that's not the source of my trouble).
Now what is annoying however, there is a very loud and very distinct
static noise that is audible to the external party (outside of my *

Icecast 2.3.2 doesn't list all mount points
Hello,
I've upgraded from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2. I've been used to list all mount
points by <xsl:for-each select="source"/> under /icestats.
Howver now the /icestats elemets contains only source elemets which have
been requested at least once. That means the list (e.g. /stats.xsl under
web directory) is empty after server start.
I've found out this regresion presents only

[Homes] on two machines, possible?
Hi,
I have a smb pdc running which works quite well so far, and would like to
know if this feature is possible.
I have two locations, and I want all users to authenticate on Machine A.
Howver there are some users that are closer to machine B, and I would like
to be able to have the homes of those users on machine B rather than
machine A (they should authenticate on machine A anyway).
Is this

R, S, S-Plus, whence comes thy name?
I appeal to those entrusted with the keeping of the R flame, the S flame, and the S-Plus flame to relate a bit of history. How did S, S-Plus, and R get their names? Going from S to S-Plus appears clear, a commercial company purchased rights to S, developed a product that they wanted to indicate was related to S, but was more fully developed. This leaves me with only a rumor how S got its original

help with Tukey Mean-Difference Plot

I would appreciate for some advise how to generate a Tukey
Mean-Difference Plot with the tmd function part of the lattice

correlation on a scatterplot. However the correlation line is

Am I misunderstanding the ifelse construction?
I have a function like this:
changedir <- function(dataframe) {
dir <- dataframe$dir
gc_content <- dataframe$gc_content
d <- ifelse(dir == "-",
gc_content <- -gc_content,gc_content <- gc_content)
return(d)
}
The goal of this function is to be able to input a data frame like this:
> lala
dir gc_content
1 + 0.5
