how to abort when can't write to the destination?
Dear Rsyncers, I'm trying to maintain a mirror of Ubuntu distribution and I had a cron job which rsynced it every night. The problem came after last reboot a few days ago -- destination directory wasn't mounted, thus wasn't accessible by rsync for writing: rsync: failed to set times on "/share/ubumirror/.": Operation not permitted (1) rsync: recv_generator: mkdir

R datasets ownership(copyright) and license
Dear R Developers, Recently filed (and dismissed ;) ) law suit by Astrolabe against tz database developers caused a lot of media-press and discussions and created some kind of precedence in the USA [3]. But also it imho showed that similar attacks might happen in the future, and possibly against data sets which are not that obviously "factual" thus after all might fall under copyright

rsync stalls -- sleeps indefinetly
Dear Developers First of all I would love to thank you for a nice tool I had been using rsync within backuppc project to backup my remote hosts. It had been working fine until the moment (as I think) whenever I moved RAID to another box and now the source directory (/raid/research) is now actually NFS mounted. Now backup (rsync process) stalls and sleeps indefinitely On the backup server:

cannot plot too much (using Mac interface)
Thanks. And sorry for abusing the word crash. I understand the difference. However, now that you mention it, there is a case where I think R is crashing. I'm not sure if it's R or if it's the Mac OS interface, but if I try to plot something complicated (or a series of complicated things) while rendering them at the same time, R will freeze and eventually fail. I've been trying

Compile Packages on vista
Hi I''m trying to compile R packages on my vista (I''m very new on vista...). I installed Rtools, RExcel on a specific folder: c:\Rtools and gave full access. Unfortunately, I am still unable to compile any packages (may be still because of the security properties of vista). I checked several mailing list/forums/website but I did not found any solution. Does anybody have the

unable to restore saved data
Lately, when I try to open R I get the following error message: Error: object 'time' not found whilst loading namespace 'tseries' Fatal error: unable to restore saved data in .RData If I rename .RData to RData.RData and then try opening R again it works. Then I can load("RData.RData") without a problem. But if I try saving my workspace (as the default,

I am trying to record a call into a stereo mp3 in Asterisk 1.4, but I can't seem to get it to work correct. Could someone point me to what I need to do? I have attached what I believe are the relevant parts. change location of temporary files
Does setting the environment variable TMPDIR, before starting R, to a directory on a bigger file system help? R 0.64.2 for Windows 95/NT
I installed R 0.64.2 using "rwinst.exe" on a Windows 95 machine. The zip files and rwinst.exe were stored in a directory "rtmp" and I wanted R to be installed in "r0642" (by setting c:\rtmp for source directory and c:\ for install directory). After the installation was completed the main program was in r0642 whereas all the documentation in c:\rtmp\r0642. Is this

Trying to build R-1.6.2 under sparc-sun-solaris2.9.
This is a follow-up to a message I posted yesterday concerning building R-1.6.2. After a deafening silence regarding that first message I decided to be fool-hardy and just comment out the line that seemed to be giving trouble in the file /usr/include/sys/stream.h. This worked for a while, but soon another error resulted:

How to interpret these results from a simple gamma-frailty model
Dear R users, I'm trying to fit a gamma-frailty model on a simulated dataset, with 6 covariates, and I'm running into some results I do not understand. I constructed an example from my simulation code, where I fit a coxph model without frailty (M1) and with frailty (M2) on a number of data samples with a varying degree of heterogeneity (I'm running R 2.3.1, running takes ~1 min).
