Readline
Hello, I also have problems to get to run the following lines. If I run the block instead of every single line, it simply does not wait for the input. Can anybody help me? ------------------------ pos_name <- readline("Please type: ") r <- substr(pos_name, 1,1) c <- substr(pos_name, 2,nchar(pos_name)) ------------------------ Thank you! solve nonlinear equation using BBsolve
Hi r-users, I would like to solve system of nonlinear equation using BBsolve function and below is my code.  I have 4 parameters and I have 4 eqns. mgf_gammasum <- function(p) { t  <- rep(NA, length(p)) mn <- 142.36 vr <- 9335.69 sk <- 0.8139635 kur <- 3.252591 rh  <- 0.896 # cumulants k1 <- p[1]*(p[2]+p[3]) k2 <- p[1]*(2*p[2]*p[3]*p[4] +p[2]^2+p[3]^2) k3 <-

Solution to differential equation
Hello, I am trying to find the analytical solution to this differential equation dR/dt = k1*(R^k2)*(1-(R/Rmax)); R(0) = Ro k1 and k2 are parameters that need to fitted, while Ro and Rmax are the baseline and max value (which can be fitted or fixed). The response (R) increases initially at an exponential rate governed by the rate constants k1 and k2. Response has a S-shaped curve as a function

An example of very slow computation
This message is about a curious difference in timing between two ways of computing the same function. One uses expm, so is expected to be a bit slower, but "a bit" turned out to be a factor of >1000. The code is below. We would be grateful if anyone can point out any egregious bad practice in our code, or enlighten us on why one approach is so much slower than the other. The problem

Fitting compartmental model with nls and lsoda?
Dear Colleagues, Our group is also working on implementing the use of R for pharmacokinetic compartmental analysis. Perhaps I have missed something, but > fit <- nls(noisy ~ lsoda(xstart, time, one.compartment.model, c(K1=0.5, k2=0.5)), + data=C1.lsoda, + start=list(K1=0.3, k2=0.7), + trace=T + ) Error in eval(as.name(varName), data) : Object

R-alpha: New Incomplete Beta Function
Here is a drop-in replacement for the R incomplete beta function. src/math/pbeta.c It is a slightly modified version of the cephes library one from Netlib. In the few cases I tried it seems to give at least 14 digit agreement with the one in S-PLUS (its hard to get more). I'm not sure what performance is like. I'd like to know if it helps with some of the problems which have been

fitting sine wave
Dear R-helpers ? I have 7 data points that I want to fit a continuous curve to, that should look similar to a sine wave My data points would mark the local minima and maxima respectively. This is what I?ve got so far. And I would keep doing so, but sadly nls() then says that it has reached the maximum number of Iterations? ?

file name starting with [0-9]* not synchronized (!?)
Hi, I'm trying to backup a remote directory. Although the remote directory hasn't been changed after rsync's run, I realize that the supposed synchronization missed some files. Does it have to do with rsync or I miss something ? Thanks very much, Mihai. ______________________________ quad ...lu2/BACKUP/k2/mnt/i1/vbs# rsync -av --stats rsync://mlozo@k2/vobuser/user

paired samples, matching rows, merge()
Hi everyone! I'm matching two samples to create one sample that have pairs of observations equal for the k1 variable. Merge() doesn't work because I dont't want to recycle the values. x <- data.frame(k1=c(1,1,2,3,3,5), k2=c(20,21,22,23,24,25)) x y <- data.frame(k1=c(1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5), k2=c(10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17)) y merge(x,y,by="k1") k1 k2.x k2.y 1 1 20

How to avoid the NaN errors in dnbinom?
Hi, The code below is giving me this error message: Error in while (err > eps) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed In addition: Warning messages: 1: In dnbinom(x, size, prob, log) : NaNs produced 2: In dnbinom(x, size, prob, log) : NaNs produced I know from the help files that for dnbinom "Invalid size or prob will result in return value NaN, with a warning", but I am not able

questions about nls
Dear R users, I am new in R and I want to use the nls package to analyze some experimental data. The data is in the attached file "data". It is the response "Sav" measured at different "C0". Basically, the "C0" is a function of C1, K2, and r, and the "Sav" is a function of C0, C1, K2, and r. The math equations are shown in the attached

Resetting Marker Bits
Hi All, I'm looking for how to enable SIP Markers, or specifically, how to have the TIME reset when a call route changes. I'm debugging an issue, where a sip client we have switching to one-way-audio, when an asterisk server fruther down the call path dials out to the PSTN. Scenario is: SIP Client -> A*k1 -> A*k2 -> PSTN Provider/Gradwell -> O2 -> Mobile

include
HI Jim and all, I want to put one more condition. Include col2 and col3 if they are not in col1. Here is the data mydat <- read.table(textConnection("Col1 Col2 col3 K2 X1 NA Z1 K1 K2 Z2 NA NA Z3 X1 NA Z4 Y1 W1"),header = TRUE,stringsAsFactors=FALSE) The desired out put would be Col1 Col2 col3 1 X1 0 0 2 K1 0 0 3 Y1 0 0 4 W1 0 0 6 K2 X1

Jim has been exceedingly patient (and may well continue to be so), but this smells like "failure to launch". At what point will you start showing your (failed) attempts at solving your own problems so we can help you work on your specific weaknesses and become self-sufficient? -- Sent from my phone. Another loop avoidance question.
Hi I want to sum over one of the dimensions of a n x k1 x k2 array in which each column is the product of the corresponding columns from two matrices with dimensions n x k1 and n x k2. I can see two approaches: a loop on k1 and a loop on k2. But I cannot figure a solution that avoids the loop? Is it possible? (I don't refer to apply or lapply etc either as they are just hidden loops so,

Converting expression to a function
Previously, I've posted queries about this, and thanks to postings and messages in response have recently had some success, to the extent that there is now a package called nlmrt on the R-forge project https://r-forge.r-project.org/R/?group_id=395 for solving nonlinear least squares problems that include small or zero residual problems via a Marquardt method using a call that mirrors the nls()
