MikTeX will be assumed in R 2.2.0 in Windows
I've just committed some changes to allow R to be built and to use
MikTeX without needing the Rd.sty files to be installed to localtexmf.
Unfortunately, the changes are not compatible with other TeX packages,
so if you're not using MikTeX you'll need to edit a couple of the config
files (or set an environment variable).
I'd appreciate hearing of any problems during the alpha

problem building R packages in windows xp
Dear R users,
I am having problems building R packages in Windows xp. I have followed the
instructions from Peter E. Rossi in Documentation -> Other, except for the
TeX version (fpTeX), since when I go to the recommended webpage, it is said
that fpTeX has been discontinued. I have MikTeX in my computer, and I have
followed the recommendations in

Problem Sweaving vignettes: MiKTeX's texi2dvi reports errors
Hi,
I am trying to create a Bioconductor package. Everything installs and checks
fine. Now I'm on my last step, which is to create a vignette. I'm trying to
test the Sweave process, to make sure I can build a vignette. I am stuck at
the texi2dvi stage, which fails when I try to process the example
Sweave-test-1.tex file.
I am using Windows binary R distributions, and have the same

Latex can not find Rd.sty
Hi,
Lately my Latex engine used for checking packages stop working, and I can
not figure out how to fix it.
When creating my package (caMassClass) I get the

This typically indicates Rd problems.
message. I look in caMassClass-manual.log file and find

TCITex and R
Several times my packages have fallen foul of the latex check at the
uploading-to-CRAN stage, creating extra work for Kurt Hornik. I've never
bothered trying to get latex working on my own packages (happy with
vanilla help) but am told that "latex is the closest thing to a syntax
checker for Rd files" and that I should set it up. Now, there is already
a latex on my (Windows XP)

Package Building under Windows with MikTeX 2.6
Dear WizaRds,
I wrote a small function in R and would like to create a package. The
necessary documentation is done, Rtools etc. are installed and I am
still unable to complete the process under Windows. I did extensive
research in the archives and read the Murdoch-Sutherland website on the
Rtools and MikTeX hints. I realize that I understand only half or less
of what is said there

Windows vignettes, shQuote, texi2dvi
I noticed a shQuote fix for Windows in the svn logs.
Just wanted to point out that this will favorably
affect texi2dvi on Windows which previously used
UNIX quoting and so generated an incorrect Windows
command. (Note that texi2dvi is used when creating
vignettes.)
Another problem is that the recommended tex
distribution for Windows, fptex, does not have texi2dvi
in the first place. The

TeX distribution on Windows
I'm looking for a Windows distribution of TeX that works with R, after a
few years' absence from Windows. On Duncan Murdoch's Rtools page fptex is
still recommended, but it turns out that fptex is "defunct" as of May 2005,
see

So, what is suggested? TUG (tug.org) recommends something called proTeXt,

finding yap.exe with Sweave
Dear all:
Just to make sure I am on the same page as everyone else.
I just got a new computer and had to reinstall MikTex and of course R and Tinn-R. In order to be able to generate PDF's with Sweave I had to install notepad++ to tell Sweave where Latex.exe and yap.exe where located under MikTex path. So,I have two questions:
1- Do I need to have a Miktex editor in order to use Sweave? I am

Problem with "R CMD Rd2dvi": Rd.sty not found
Hi,
I run into a problem with "R CMD Rd2dvi" command: it gives me "File `Rd.sty'
not found" error (See the output message on the bottom). I get the same
error when running "RCMD check". My system is: Windows 2000, R version
2.0.1, MiKTeX version 2.4. I do have a Rd.sty file in R_HOME/share/texm
directory.
I looked through newsgroups for any related discussions

I am just in the middle of a conversation on the tex list but
just in case you are about to post anything to your web site
here is a slight simplification. It consists of updating the
MiKTeX file database using initexmf instead of the GUI so you
don't have to move back and forth during the instructions.
The discussion there might correct or improve this further.

Sweave not found from MikTeX?
I've been working on a LaTeX document that contains Sweave code and cannot
get MikTeX to find the Sweave.sty file. I've added the c:\rw1081\share\texmf
path in the MikTeX roots (I've ven added the path in the environment
variables ) but to no avail. Is there a trick to getting Sweave installed
correctly when using MikTeX on Windows XP? Do I need to move/copy the
Sweave.sty file to the

Package development on Windows - latest guidance?
I would like to start building R packages under Windows XP. I
have programming experience and a minimal but working knowlege
of many Unix (-like) programming tools. The package functions
(for now) will be from R source, not C or Fortran.
I've installed Rtools, Perl, the MS hhc, and so on. I am
setting up a command shell with the correct PATH for building
packages. (The master Windows PATH

Rd.sty not found -
Hi
I am still trying to wrap up a package using Rcmd (in windows 2000 professional with R 1.8.1). I have made some progress - and now at least Rcmd check works - it still giving me an error message when it creates latex help files though. Thus I get:
c:\rpack> Rcmd check test

* using log directory 'C:/rpacks/test.Rcheck'

\Sexpr in MikTex
Greetings, \Sexpr{} has worked on MikTex with earlier versions of R, I can not seem to get it to work with
R-2.4.0. I run Sweave with MikTex using the following statement in Run under Accessories.
latex -include-directory="C:\Program Files\R\R-2.4.0\share\texmf" "C:\Documents and Settings\Suzette\Desktop\MyFile\MyProgram.tex"
Any advice would be much appreciated,

[OT/R+MikTeX] WinAnsi.enc fonts not found by ghostscript by default [solved]
Concerns: OS Win32 / R 2.5.0
Recently (IIRC not with R < 2.3.0), I had some problems including postscript
graphics produced in R into LaTeX with MikTeX [version 2.5.2574]:
yap, respectively GhostScript/GSView (versions 8.54/4.7 resp.) threw errors.
In fact, I realized this was just the same problem as reported in

Using \leq for <= in Rd files
Hi,
When writing formulae in Rd files I use \leq to get a less-than-or-equal-to
sign, as this is what the LaTeX references I consulted suggested. This works
correctly for the PDF output (Rcmd Rd2dvi.sh --pdf), however when the Rd
file is converted to text or html this command is converted to "<=q".
A workaround is to use \le instead of \leq which works with my LaTeX
distribution
