setting the environment variable R_LIBS
Thanks to Peter Dalgaard , I have made some decent progress as far as
getting R to work in linux . I just want to set my environment variable
R_LIBS to /u/etlfs/dev/users/leedsmar/R/library ( in linux ) so that I
can install specific packages. Does anyone know the syntax and in which
file I set this variable ( .Rprofile etc ).
I've looked in the installation manual ( i'm mainly on pg 14

checking existence of active bindings
Is there any way to check whether an active binding exists without
actually calling the active binding? I'd like to be able to do
something like exists("x", ...) and know whether "x" exists without
actually fetching its value if it is an active binding (because it could
consume significant resources to fetch the value).
The documentation for exists() doesn't

Problem using RMySQL and fCalendar
Hello:
I am trying to use fCalendar for date arithmetic and the RMySQL package
for accessing a MySQL database. The fCalendar math operations seem to
work fine UNTIL I load the RMySQL package. Here is a demonstration:

Error: Cannot Coerce POSIXt to POSIXct when building package
A newbie here - please forgive me if this is a basic question. We have an
in house package built in R 2.2.1 (yes we're a little behind the times at
our firm)and would like to rebuild it using R 2.5.1. However, when I try
and build the package from source, I keep getting this error:

The log function problem
Hi R,
Please see the below commands. The question is I can see the value of
log(2) before loading the package fcalendar in R. But after loading the
package, the 'log' function doesn't work. How to solve this problem?
Also note that the function code differs before and after downloading
the packages.

installing rgl package on linux platform
I am using Redhat Linux and my info is below. I was trying to install
the rgl package using R CMD INSTALL and it was doing
fine until it got to the compilation of a pixmap program ? Does anyone
know what I could do to fix that ? Is it possible that
this package is not usable on this platform ? Thanks.

read.spss {foreign} doesn't work over network?
I'm unable to open an SPSS file over my network. If I copy it to my
local C:/ drive I can read it. I saved the command (in a "crib sheet"
text file) in order to avoid all the typing, so I'm pretty sure I've
done it before. I verified that the file I'm trying to read is OK.

trouble installing building packages from source using R 2.6.0 on Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64
I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu Gutsy and, for the first time, am
using a 64-bit installation. After failing miserably to install R from
source, not a problem for me in the past with a 32-bit install, I went
the route of using the Debian Etch build. This went smoothly, but I am
unable to update my numerous R and BioConductor packages, getting
non-zero exit status errors on each package. Is

License quandry in the Fedora sub-space of all R packages
There was mention of this [r-sig-fedora at r-project.org] mailing
list on one of the other R lists overnight. I thought the
list needed a bit of posting, as I could not recall seeing
content recently on it. I cross post to the Red Hat hosted
list as well, it raises issues relevant there as well
I have been packaging in support of many of the financial
packages at CRAN and in R-Forge [

Package 'fCalendar'
Dear,
I'm a master student mathematics at university Gent, who's writing a thesis about vines and copula's.
I'm in trouble with the package 'fCalendar' which I need for running 'QRMlib'.
The problem is that 'fCalendar' doesn't have a namespace. I need to use R.2.14.1 because
I also need the package 'vines' which only works for R.2.14.1.
I'm
