Hello there.
When I try to start the jvm using .jinit() after loading library(rJava) I
don't seem to be able to as I get the message:
Error in .jinit() : Cannot create Java Virtual Machine
What is going on here? I have java 1.6 installed on my XP machine
Thanks again.

problem using rJava with parallel::mclapply
Dear all,
I got an issue trying to parse excel files in parallel using XLConnect, the
process hangs forever.
Martin Studer, the maintainer of XLConnect kindly investigated the issue,
identified rJava as a possible cause of the problem:
This does not work (hangs):
library(parallel)
require(rJava)
.jinit()

RJava question(class not found with rJava's vm, though found with alternate vm)
Not sure if this the right place, but I can't seem to subscribe to the rJava
mailing list. Sorry for the noise.
I have a jar file in the CLASSPATH variable. On running .jinit and checking
.jclassPath, i can see the jar file containing the class. Yet when trying to
instantaite the class, i get a class not found error.
Now If if, create my own vm (see below), and then run .jinit (which will

iplots problem
Hi. I try to load iplots using the following commands
> library(rJava)
> library(iplots)
but then I get the following error:
Error in .jinit(cp, parameters = "-Xmx512m", silent = TRUE) :
Cannot create Java Virtual Machine
Error in library(iplots) : .First.lib failed for 'iplots'
What do I have to do to correct this?

rJava Broken on Linux + R 3.4
Hi Dirk,
It was unclear to me to which extent it is a
kernel/security patch vs (r)Java issue.
In any case, this is really problematic for me as it prevents me de
facto from running some key R packages for my daily work.
I'll post again if I see some solution (other than downgrading the
kernel) somewhere.
Meanwhile, any suggestions for a fix is welcome.
Cheers

r-cran-rjava dependencies on debian jesse, library(rJava) fails when default-jre is missing
Hi,
Dirk Eddelbuettel advised me to write here. Here is my original letter to him:
I would like to enquire about package r-cran-rjava on Debian jesse. It seems that if default-jre package is not installed, but openjdk-7-jre is installed, then library(rJava) in R fails. I?ve been bitten by this today and I wonder whether this an issue of mine, or is this a possible bug.

help updating package rJava (on ubuntu)
Esteemed useRs and Devs,
Attempts to update package:rJava to the latest version have failed. See

Notably, as suggested here

$ sudo apt-get install r-cran-rjava
ran successfully without error or warning, but my rJava package is not
updated, and remains un-updatable...
Greatly appreciate any

rJava fails compilation on R-2.9.1 but not R-2.7.1 on Debian Lenny
I have been futzing around for days tying to get rJava to install on
my freshly build Debian Lenny installation. I have R-2.9.1 installed
from source in my R_HOME directory and R-2.7.1 installed via apt-get
install r-recommended. I was tried many different things, but by
accident started up R-2.7.1 as root and viola, successful install. I
immediately exited out of R-2.7.1 and started R-2.9.1 as

Problems with xlsx and rjava
Hi,
I keep getting the below error regarding rJava which is required by package xlsx (I have used it in the past to directly import data from Excel 2010).
I was on R version 2.15.0 when I was getting this error this morning. So I upgraded to 2.15.1 but still the same problem. I tried unstalling and reinstalling xlsx and even rJava directly from the source as indicated here:

Hello.
I am trying to load the rJava package in R-2.7.2 (Windows XP 64-bit RGui)

located at the directory listed in the error message. I have tried to
uninstall and reinstall the package but that does not resolve the problem.
Then uninstallation and re-installation of R did not resolve the issue
either. Any suggestions are

Having difficulties getting rJava to install on my Debian Squeeze box.
Perused the R-help list and tried some things that have worked for
others but not for me. Below is the output of my attempted build, R
CMD javareconf -e, and sessionInfo(). Note I tried the R CMD
javareconf also as root, restarted R after each of these, all no help.
