Duncan is on the right track. Thanks. In the CMD window start "c:\Program Files\R\R-2.5.0\doc\manual\R-admin.pdf" opens another CMD window with the quoted string as title. In the CMD window start c:\Progra~1\R\R-2.5.0\doc\manual\R-admin.pdf (with the 8.3 name and no embedded blanks) opens Adobe Reader 8 Windows Explorer shows the Adobe 6 icon by the PDF files. acroread 8 on CentOS-4 (was for SL4)
I know acroread is not part of CentOS but many people use it. Thought forwarding this post on the SciLinux mailing list might help those who use acroread on CentOS-4. === excerpt === The "latest" version officially compatible with RHEL4 is acroread-7.0.9, but this currently has open security holes (CVE-2007-5663 et al). http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa08-01.html

Acrobat Reader broken on CentOS 4.3
I have had Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 installed on my CentOS 4.2 desktop and it worked fine. After upgrading to 4.3, I can't get it to come up anymore. I downloaded Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 and it does the same. I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to look for, since the executable and the startup scripts are not giving me any useful errors to chase. -- Ron Loftin

wanna cry ransomware patch for samba-4.5.5
Hai, Not really a question for samba technical, but i can share this. No need for setting things on samba, that wont help a lot. Below is my setup and its just how you configure your pc's. This and almost all other "malware" is EASY to block, but it wil have impact on how your work. First, start with NEVER work/run as user with administrator rights. If one needs it, then not

wrong colours when printing from Windows
I have a strange issue with Brother MFC-5440CN printer. When I print from Linux/CUPS, it prints colours fine. When I print from Windows, using Windows drivers (without Samba), it also prints fine. When I print from Windows through Samba/CUPS (drivers added using cupsaddsmb...), it gives me wrong colours: expected | result -------------------- yellow | blue blue | red red | green

[samba 4.0] read only = yes + Denymode DENY_WRITE
Hello, Our samba fileserver is a member of a Windows 2008R2 domain, and has different shares. These shares are set with a "read only = yes" and have an explicit "write list". This works as planned. But when an "read only" user opens a pdf with Adobe acrobat, the file gets DenyMode DENY_WRITE and the user who can edit the file can't save the document anymore.

Unwanted white borders on semi-transparent polygons?
Hey all, I'm trying to create a plot of two semi-transparent regions. The reason they need to be partially transparent is so that I can see if there's any overlap. Here's some example code: # BEGIN pdf(file="test.pdf",version="1.4") plot(0,0,type="l",ylim=range(-3,3),xlim=range(-1,5)) polygon(c(0,1,2,3,4,3,2,1,0), c(0,1,2,1,0,-1,-2,-1,0),

JDF library in wine?
Hello all, I wonder if there is a way to set up the so-called JDF library required by several Adobe software? I haven't been able to find out what it is, nor whether wine has any way to set this up, or even if I can copy windows DLL's over. I can get Adobe Acrobat 7.0 to run, for example, but many actions fail with the error "cannot initialize JDF library". Any enlightenment

OT: permission denied when opening PDF docs with Acrobat Reader X potected mode
Hi, this might be off topic because it's not a samba problem, but might be interesting for others too. We are running an older samba 3.0.24 working as domain controller (no DFS features). When opening a .pdf file with the Acrobat Reader X from a WinXP SP3 client (maschine is member of the domain) the Acrobat Reader X shows a "permission denied". We see the following in the samba

Uninstall Adobe Acrobat 7.0
Installed a 30 day trial of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and I'm now trying to "properly" uninstall. I run "uninstaller" and the program shows up in the list of installed programs. In Uninstaller: click on the program description to highlight it and then clicking the Uninstall tab causes the hard drive to wobble about a bit, the program becomes un-highlighted and the uninstaller

nspluginwrapper included in CentOS 5.2 fails completely
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I run CentOS 5.2 x86_64 on my workstation at home. Since 5.2 came out with nepluginwrapper bundled into it, none of my plugins work. I thought it was just a problem with the flash plugin, but neither the mplayerplug-in plugins nor the adobe acrobat reader plugin work, either. I have this problem both with the Seamonkey contributed 64-bit build

AcroRead failing miserably in CentOS 5.0
I could swear that this was working just last week, but now when I run the Adobe Acrobat reader, it hangs. If I run it "directly" (/usr/bin/acroread) with -DEBUG as the first argument, I get an infinite loop of: expr: syntax error I tried removing and reinstalling it, but no change.
