R search applet initialization
R 1.5.1 is due to come out ... and I've just noticed that the R help.start page search applet doesn't work on my Mandrake 8.2 system even though I've upgraded mozilla to version 1.0 and I have a perfectly working java (all right, I'm using 1.4.0 now, but with mozilla 0.98 and java 1.3.1 it still didn't work). I had thought the problem due to a too-old mozilla version, but it

Search Engine (PR#2813)
Full_Name: Anthony Westerling Version: 1.7.0 OS: Mac OS X 10.2.5 Submission from: (NULL) (64.203.9.4) R includes a very nice search engine web page which installs at /usr/local/lib/R/doc/html/search/SearchEngine.html. The search engine and keywords links do not work on my Mac G4s running OS X 10.2.5, and this appears to be independent of choice of browser. This appears to be a Mac-specific

help.start() problem with netscape 6.2.2 (was: R 1.5.0 RPM's for Mandrake)
I've installed Netscape 6.2.2 on Mdk82, but have not had much luck with help.start() (R-1.5.0 compiled from source). When I do help.start(), it just starts up netscape with the default home page, rather than the R help page. Doing ?<anything> at the R prompt starts up yet another netscape instance, but still no R help. Anyone knows why, or even better, how to solve this? Regards,

R-2.1.0 search engine works with mozilla browser but not firefox
I'm running R-2.1.0 on a Linux box and found that the HTML search engine help would not work with Firefox 1.0.3 but would work with Mozilla 1.7.7. I have Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_02 installed. With Firefox, when I launch help.start() and click to the search engine, it brings up the first page with "Applet SearchEngine started" in the status bar, but clicking on one of the

HTML help search in R 2.6.0 v 2.6.1
I am running R on a corporate Windows XP SP2 machine on which I do not have administrator privileges or access to most settings in Control Panel. R is installed from my limited user account. The version of the JVM I have installed is perhaps best described as antique: > system(paste("java -version"),show.output.on.console=T) java version "1.4.1" Java(TM) 2 Runtime

R search engine and Mozilla
Not really an R question but I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm having problems with the R help page "The R language" and Mozilla 1.3 with the Java 2 runtime environment 1.4.1_02 under Windows XP. The problems occur on the "Search Engine & Keywords" page. I can open two links, but after that links aren't recognized. The problem seems to be javascript

I use R 2.2.0 and just updated to Firefox 1.5 (note that I already got the same result with Firefox 1.x.x) under Win XP sp2 US (full details of my config hereunder). When I try to use the HTML help search page, I can make a search: the message 'Applet SearchEngine

HTML help pages
I am having trouble getting the HTML help pages to work. When I try the search engine I get an error on page response and nothing happens. When I try to click on the listed topics nothing happens. I am using both Mozilla and IE6 on XP and the same thing happens on each. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks -Devin Johnson

The R Book by M. J. Crawley
Hello all- I would appreciate any guidance that can be provided. I am new to R and am using it exclusively in a statistics program I am undertaking that mainly references Minitab. My focus is on data modeling and further more multivariate data analysis as much of my work in involves chemical measurements from custom sensors using all sorts of transduction methods. I am looking for a

R search engine broken (PR#6653)
Full_Name: St?phane Gourichon Version: R 1.7.1 (2003-06-16). OS: GNU/Linux Submission from: (NULL) (132.227.205.226) The HTML help is great. But the search engine is broken. It used to work in Galeon 1.x, not Konqueror 3.0 . Now it doesn't work, neither on Mozilla 1.6 / Firebird 0.6 / Firefox 0.8 nor Konqueror 3.2 which are IMHO the latest versions of those advanced, standard-compliant

boxplot hinge customization
Hello R users wiser than I - I am trying to produce a boxplot with quantiles defined by the type 6 algorithm used mainly by Minitab and SPSS for a comparison study. I found how to compare the results in tabular form using the quantile(x, type = 6) function, but am stuck on how to show the results in a summary boxplot form. Would someone be able the help with this situation? Many thanks, Matt

AMRAtoMA
Hello R Users! I have a question about the output of ARMAtoMA when used to calculate the variance of a model. I have a mixed model of the form ARMA(1,1). The actual model takes the form: X(t) = 0.75X(t-12) + a(t) - 0.4a(t-1) Given that gamma(0) takes the form [(1 + theta^2 - 2*theta*phi)/(1-phi^2)]*sigma(a), I would expect a process variance of 4.02*sigma(a) when I substitute 0.75 for phi and

Firefox keyword searches for R & S-Plus
If you've 'rediscovered the web' with Firefox (http://getfirefox.com), you might find this tip handy. Suppose you want to search the (local) R documentation for information about the lme function. Wouldn't it be nice to just type into the browser address bar: r lme and have the search performed? Here's how (on Windows): Click on this link:

Truncating trailing digits
Hello, I am relatively new to R and have a rudimentary question, I think. How does one truncate the number of digits displayed after the decimal when viewing the results of analyses? My apologies if this question has been answered previously, I was not able to find references very easily. Thank you in advance, Matt [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Possible solution for Mozilla/help.start() search problems
I thought that I would post a follow up given the several posts on this same subject in the past week. All R comments pertain to 1.6.1. Earlier in the week using a development build of Mozilla under RH 8.0, I was able to get the help.start() based search engine to work with both Java and JavaScript enabled. This was using what I believed to be the V1.2b branch of Mozilla, in which both Xft

help.start( )
Dear R experts, I installed R-1.7.1 on Linux (Red Hat 9.0) starting from R-1.7.1.tgz without a problem. Then I fired up R and tried things and found that help.start( ) does not work. I downloaded Sun Java j2re1.4.2, installed that and re-installed R-1.7.1 from scratch. I tried help.start( ) again and the browser (Mozilla 1.2.1) crashed. I read about copying libjavaplugin_oji.so into
