Correct Computer Modern font in postscript(..) output
Hi, I'm trying to get the correct font used when generating italic text in an R grahic. I have a set of labels that print correctly except it seems the italic text is justr a slanted version of the TeX computer modern normal font... I'm using R v1.8.1 on Windows XP, and I get the same result if I build the pdf using Adobe Acrobat or using MikTeX The labels:

Problem with figure size when embedding fonts
Dear Colleagues: I need to make a graphic that uses the Nimbus rather than Helvetica font family so that the font can be embedded in the encapsulated postscript file. This is to satisfy a requirement from a journal for electronic submission of figures. I do the following: postscript('lowess.eps', onefile=FALSE, pointsize=18, horizontal=FALSE, family='NimbusSan')

Difficulties in interaction between R and latex (prosper)
Hello, folks! I'm trying to use R as a graphics program, to make some pretty graphs that will go into prosper slideshows. I wrote this fragment, from the R manual, into a file demo.R: x=seq(-3,3,0.1) postscript("cm_test.eps", width = 4.0, height = 3.0, horizontal = FALSE, onefile = FALSE, paper = "special", family =

patch for textspecial and defaultfont in xfig
Hello, The current xfig device lacks the functionality to set the textspecial flag and use the defaultfont in xfig. This is necessary when you want to export to xfig and use interpreted text (e.g., $ \frac{1}{e}$ gets interpreted by latex). The attached patch adds this functionality. Why would you like to do this? - Use math in labels (e.g., name your variables $r_{xy}$, do a

Am I the only one with this problem? > postscript() Error in old$command == "default" : comparison (1) is possible only for vector types The function postscript() is creates a list called "old". the function wants to access old$command, but old does not have a component called command. > postscript function (file = ifelse(onefile, "Rplots.ps",

The journal's graphic requirements are as followed: format: eps width: max. 6 inches resolution: min. 1000 dpi supported fonts: Arial, Courier, Helvetica, Symbol, Times, Charcoal, Chicago, Geneva, Georgia, Monaco, Zapf, New York Itried to ways

How to enable Arial font for postcript/pdf figure on Windows?
Hi, I need to generate some figure using the Arial font as a requirement for PLoS. Following their guidelines, I have converted the windows font files arial.tff files to .afm using tff2afm (exec file from MikTeX), but when I try to generate a postcript file, the postcript device does not recognize the .afm files. The code I use to test the new font is the following:

Computer Modern
I am trying to use computer modern fonts in postscript files for a latex document. Ultimately I want to automate this through sweave. I've read the documentation ans have tried the following code to use lattice to produce a graph using computer modern: library(lattice) library(grid) testPlot=( xyplot(seq(1:10) ~ seq(1:10), main="one to ten",

orientation of eps files
hello, i have a problem with the orientation of eps files produced with the postscript() command. i have generated some eps files with R using: postscript(file = filename, horizontal = FALSE, paper = "special", onefile = F ALSE, height = height, width = width, pointsize = pointsize) now, when i include these eps files into a standard paper document (ie. a4 paper, portrait orientation)

trellis margin sizes in absolute units
Dear R users, I have a lot of experience with traditional R graphics, but I decided to turn to trellis as it was recommended for spatial graphs by the sp package. In traditional R graphics I always first set the size of the device region absolute units (e.g. mm) and then I firmly fix the inner margins with mai and the outer margins with oma also in absolute units. What is left from the device

figure margins too large for a barplot in png, pdf ok
I've used to have a script with a barplot command it in, preceded by a png: png(graph.file, height=H,width=W) barplot(t,names.arg=breaks[2:(length(t)+1)],tck=gridlines) -- worked before R 2.6.2. When I tried it in R 2.6.2, which I have for a while but didn't run with that script, it complained, the margins too large, and I've googled the messages from our list where neither

Usage questions
Can I ask a couple of usage questions? (RedHat Linux 6.1, R-1.1) 1. This may just indicate I'm a dinosaur who can't leave SAS behind. I want to write programs and run them with source() to see what they do, then I would like to use the "up arrow" to go back through the commands that were in the file, fiddle them, see what they do, and so forth. Is there no way? SAS has a

extra whitespace around EPS files
I'm having difficulty getting rid of extra whitespace above and below an EPS figure. For example, if I generate an output file using these commands: > R.test(output='none') where: R.test <- function(output=NULL) { if (output == 'yes') { ps.options(pointsize=10) postscript('plot.eps', paper='special', horizontal=FALSE, onefile=FALSE,

controlling usage of digits & scientific notation in R plots; postscript margins
Dear R users: I assigned students to make some graphs and I'm having trouble answering some questions that they have. We are all working on R 2.1 on Fedora Core Linux 4 systems. 1. In the plot, the axis is not labeled by "numbers", but rather scientific notation like "-2e+08" or such. We realize that means -200,000,000. We want to beautify the plot. We would rather

How to infer default width and height for a device?
Hi. GENERAL: Is there a general method for inferring default device settings, particularly 'width' and 'height', that works for all devices? AFAIK, the answer is no, but there might be functions out there that I don't know of. POSTSCRIPT SPECIFIC: If not, I'm considering implementing such a method myself. Is it possible for R to infer the default 'width' and
