do.call with Vectorial Argument
Dear All, I am trying to use the do.call command to avoid tedious loops in R when I need to call repetitively a function. I am experiencing a problem when the arguments of a function are given with a vector (I need to express then this way to be able later on to integrate them numerically with the adapt package). Consider the small script: remove(list=ls()) #library(adapt) # first a list of the

Creating Movies with R
Dear All, I'd like to know if it is possible to create animations with R. To be specific, I attach a code I am using for my research to plot some analytical results in 3D using the lattice package. It is not necessary to go through the code. Simply, it plots some 3D density profiles at two different times selected by the user. I wonder if it is possible to use the data generated for different

Complex Surveys...Specifying Design
I need some guidance from someone who is familiar/has some experience with the survey package. The data that I am using is from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (www.meps.ahrq.gov <http://www.meps.ahrq.gov/> ). The STRATA and PSU variables are varstr01 and varpsu01 respectively. When I try to specify them with the svydesign function I get an error message. An excerpt of my session

"save scores" from sem
I'm not aware of any routine that those the job, although I think that it could be relatively easily done by multiplication the manifest variable vector with the estimates for the specific effect. To make an example: v1; v2; v3; v4 are manifest variables that loads on one y latent variablein a data frame called "A" the code for the model should be like: model <-specifymodel( y

R-0.64.0 installation on SGI IRIX 6.5 machine
Hi, I am trying to install R-0.64.0 version on SGI machine running IRIX 6.5. R on HP-UX, again: modreg.sl fails, 1 arith test fails
I want to report the progress of my attempts to get R running on HP-UX with gcc: Firstly, I could work around the PIC problem by leaving out all the lib stuff (I rebuilt gcc with --enable-share, but this (alone) did not help), e.g. the line gcc -shared -fPIC -o ctest.sl ansari.o fexact.o kendall.o ks.o prho.o swilk.o -L/usr/local/lib -lg2c -lm -L/lib/pa1.1 -L/usr/lib/pa1.1 -u main

Mixed model Nested ANOVA
hello R help I am trying to analyze a data set that has been collected from a hierarchical sampling design. The model should be a mixed model nested ANOVA. The purpose of my study is to analyze the variability at each spatial scale in my design (random factors, variance components), and say something about the variability between regions (fixed factor, contrast of means). The data is as

Cubic B-spline, how to numerically integrate?
(corrected version of previous posting) I fit a GAM to turtle growth data following methods in Limpus & Chaloupka 1997 (http://www.int-res.com/articles/meps/149/m149p023.pdf). I want to obtain figures similar to Fig 3 c & f in Limpus & Chaloupka (1997), which according to the figure legend are "expected size-at-age functions" obtained by numerically integrating

GAM, GAMM and numerical integration, help please
I am trying to apply methods used by Chaloupka & Limpus (1997) ( http://www.int-res.com/articles/meps/146/m146p001.pdf) to my own turtle growth data. I am having trouble with two things... 1) After the GAM is fit, the residuals are skewed. >m1 <- gam(growth~s(mean.size, bs="cr")+s(year,bs="cr",k=7)+s(cohort,bs="cr")+s(age,bs="cr"), data=grow,

unexpected results involving the skellam distribution
Hi all, I am new to R. I made this script that plots the deviation of a skellam-distributed random variable with respect to the skellam distribution. I would expect to get random errors, but the plot sistematically shows a non-random pattern (first a peak and then a low). I don't know how to explain this. Can somebody enlighten me?? require(skellam) n <- 5000 lam1 <- 5.45 lam2 <-

SEM model fit
I wonder if someone could explain why, when I perform confirmatory factor-analysis model using polychoric correlations why I do not get an estimated confidence interval for the RMSEA. My experience with these type models is that I would obtain a confidence interval estimate. I did not get any warning messages with the output. RESULTS: Model Chisquare = 1374 Df = 185 Pr(>Chisq) = 0

Total (un)standardized effects in SEM?
Hi there, as a student sociology, I'm starting to learn about SEM. The course I follow is based on LISREL, but I want to use the SEM-package on R parallel to it. Using LISREL, I found it to be very usable to be able to see the total direct and total indirect effects (standardized and unstandardized) in the output. Can I create these effects using R? I know how to calculate them

conducting GAM-GEE within gamm4?
Dear R-help users, I am trying to analyze some visual transect data of organisms to generate a habitat distribution model. Once organisms are sighted, they are followed as point data is collected at a given time interval. Because of the autocorrelation among these "follows," I wish to utilize a GAM-GEE approach similar to that of Pirotta et al. 2011, using packages 'yags' and

"username map" parameter not working after upgrade to SAMBA 3
I have been using the "username map" parameter for some time on various versions of Samba 2, and it has worked nicely. Last week I upgraded to Samba 3 and integrated with Active Directory. Since I am using Solaris 8, and "nsswitch.conf" doesn't support winbindd, I am using the "add user script" parameter to add users. What is happening is that users in

configure bug with IRIX 6.5 (Makedep) (PR#288)
Full_Name: Leo Caves Version: 0.65.0 OS: SGI/IRIX 6.5 Submission from: (NULL) (144.32.72.76) using default configure under SGI/IRIX 6.5. (I switched to gnumake, after initial problems, this might not be necesssary). the make rule for creating dependencies is wrong for the SGI C compiler. The rule assumes that cc -M file.c -o file.d works (it doesn't). One needs to explicitly capture stdout
