polygon() draws non-transparent border, erase.screen draws non-transparent border (PR#1881)
# polygon ignores requests to have its border transparent, look at par(bg="transparent") plot(c(0, 3), 0:1) polygon(c(0, 1, 1, 0), c(0, 0, 1, 1), border=NA, col = 0) polygon(c(1, 2, 2, 1), c(0, 0, 1, 1), border="transparent", col = 0) polygon(c(2, 3, 3, 2), c(0, 0, 1, 1), border=0, col = 0) # a quick fix for erase.screen() is the following erase.screen <- function (n =

Lattice wireframe: How to avoid drawing lines around polygons when using shade=TRUE
I am using wireframe from the lattice package, with the shade option set to TRUE. When I output to PDF or Postscript, a line gets drawn around each polygon of my surface which causes ugly Moir? effects and doesn't make sense in my application (think the plot of Maunga Whau--gridlines don't make sense). This does not happen when I display on the screen-- then I just get the surface as

rectangles without borders
Hi, I want to draw rectangles with "rect" without borders, but with shading (ie setting density). ?rect says lty: line type for borders; defaults to '"solid"'. but if I set it to 0, the border disappears, but the shading also vanishes! But the above says that lty is the line type for BORDERS, and does not mention density at all -- how do I get around this?

border of a polygon in contour.kriging - geoR
Dear all, When a conventional kriging and then a contour plot is limited with a polygon (as possible with krige.conv and contour.kriging), the polygon border is displayed in black by default. > kc<-krige.conv(CZdata,loc=pred.grid,borders=czpoly,krige=krige.control(obj.m=ls)) > plot(CZcoord,xlab="x",ylab="y",type="n",asp=1) >

How to calculate the perimeter and common border of polygons?
Dear R-users, Is there any way of calculating the perimeter of a polygon in a shapefile object? Furthermore, how to calculate the length of the common border of two polygons? I've searched the code of spded, but could not find a hint on how to do it. Thank you very much, Leo. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

latex, eps graphics and transparent colors
I have a diagram to be included in latex, where all my figures are .eps graphics (so pdflatex is not an option) and I want to achieve something like the following: three concentric filled circles varying in lightness or saturation. It is easiest to do this using transparency, but in my test using the postscript driver, the transparent color fills do not appear. Is it correct that postscript()

draw borders of bars inside of the rectangles in a barplot
Dear R-users, I want to draw a barplot with beside=TRUE. One halve of the bars are drawn with a border, while the other halve are drawn without a border (i.e. filled bars vs. non-filled bars next to each other). Because borders are drawn around the bars, doing this leads to one halve of the bars being wider than the other halve, expanding across the 0-point of the y-axis. This problem emerges

Could we make filled.contour() more suitable for PDF viewers?
Note that I sent this to r-devel, yesterday. However, it didn't appear on the mailing list. So, I'm resending it. Today, I plotted the following: > filled.contour (,,z, color.palette=terrain.colors) It looked OK, in R. However, when I created a PDF document, the plot (and other similar plots) had grid (and other) lines in it, that shouldn't be there. Note that this problem is more

do not plot polygon boundaries with spplot {sp}
Hi, Is there a simple way to suppress the plotting of polygon boundaries with spplot() ? # simple list of 12 colors cols <- brewer.pal(12, "Paired") # plot pile of polygons, with 12 classes: spplot(x, zcol='class2', col.regions=cols, scales=list(draw=T), xlab="Easting (m)", ylab="Northing (m)") ... seems to work well. However the polygon boundaries

shading an area of a graphic
Colleagues OS 10.5 R: 2.10.1 I have a simple x-y plot for which I would like to shade the lower (or upper) part of the interior region (i.e., the area bounded by the axes). If the delineation between top and bottom were linear, it would be use to use the polygon function. However, the delineation is a curve (which I can describe by an equation). In theory, I could divide the x-axis into a

draw borders of bars inside of the rectangles in a barplot
I recommend instead of no border, that you use a border with the same color as the fill. I do this in the likert functions in the HH package. Polygon shading line colors
Hi there, I'm having trouble working out how to change the colors of polygon shading lines. If I plot a polygon with polygon(poly,density=30,borders=gray(0.5)) I get gray borders but black shading lines; I have tried adding col=gray(0.5), bg=gray(0.5) and fg=gray(0.5), but no luck. How can I change the colors of the shading? The help file doesn't seem to detail this, so any

Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list, I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like to know where I should have filled it. And to the subject matter: I would like to use a command like this: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2),

lattice library: xyplot and polygons
Dear R-Helpers, Is there a way to draw shaded (filled) polygons in panel graphs produced by xyplot ? I made different trials (see below) with polygon() and grid.polygon() but polygons are not drawn (probably for the same reason that prevents the use of lines, points, etc. in xyplot panels). Thanks in advance, Renaud > Water id label longitude latitude 515 21 Zone inondable

area between two curves, but one is not continuous
Hello, I want to colorize the area between two curves, but one of these curves isn't continuous. The best solution I found is the 2nd example in the help of polygon, but how can I get no area filling for the missing data in the 2nd curve. example: x1 = c(1:8) x2 = c(1:8) y1 = c(1,5,6,1,4,5,5,5) y2 = c(0,3,3,NA,NA,1,3,4) plot(x1,y1,type="l") lines(x2,y2) for the missing parts I

superpose.polygon, panel.polygon and their colors
Dear R-helpers, the problem I'm facing today is to convince lattice to paint some areas in gray. The areas I would like to have in gray, are confidence bands I've googled around in the mailing list archives and eventually find some clues. This link is my starting point http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/help/07/04/15595.html I'm reproducing here the code for your convenience est

ggplot2 geom_polygon fill

I want to display the difference or change in the distribution of the modified Rankin Scale between two groups. mRS is a scale for disability or daily activities competence. It looks like this.

conflict when passing an argument to a function within an other function
Dear all, I have a problem with this piece of code which I don't really see how to overcome and I think it might also be of more general interest: map(xlim=c(-10,40),ylim=c(30,60) ,mar=rep(0,4)+.1 ,fill=T ,col="darkseagreen" ,bg="skyblue" ) The idea is to use the map function from the maps package to draw a map of Europe. By default with the argument fill=T there is
