RAMDirectory with acts_as_ferret
Hi There, Is anyone using RAMDirectory as the data store with acts_as_ferret? I would love some pointers on how to configure acts_as_ferret to correctly use RAMDirectory (rather than FSDirectory). Thanks in advance. AC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/ferret-talk/attachments/20060926/bd1230c5/attachment-0001.html

In memory IndexReader bug?
Hi All, Hope all is going well. I''m having trouble with the following code creating an in memory index reader - it seems to be attempting to read from a file regardless. Here''s the simple code: require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' a = Ferret::Index::Index.new r = Ferret::Index::IndexReader.new(nil) Running the code on my OS X machine

index.rb:384 [BUG]
Hi folks, I''ve working and playing with acts_as_ferret and follow this fantastic tutorial: http://www.railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as-ferret-tutorial When I try to implement the field storage tip, it crash. So, I try to make it via script/console: 1. I have a simple model called Articles: class Article < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_ferret :fields =>

Trouble with "updating" a document
Hi, I seem to be having trouble updating a doc, ie, deleting then re-adding to the index. The following script demonstrates my issue - I''m sure I''m missing something obvious, but I can''t seem to find the problem. Can someone point out where I am going wrong please ? oddness when adding to index -
I was having some odd results when working with acts_as_ferret (current trunk), so I decided to test with the current version of ferret to see if I encountered the same problem. I did. Here are the details: installed ferret 0.10.10 on debian sarge with ''sudo gem install ferret'' (btw, same results on OSX) opened up an irb session: irb(main):001:0> require

Possiible Bug ? indexWriter#doc_count counts deleted docs after #commit
I''m playing with "updating" docs in my index, and I think I''ve found bug with IndexWriter counting deleted docs. Script and output follow: ===== require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' p Ferret::VERSION @doc = {:id => ''44'', :name => ''fred'', :email => ''abc at

IOError on clearing locks
Hi all, I''ve got a slight problem with using Ferret in unit tests. In order to create as little cross-contamination between test suites as possible, some of my tests are creating a fresh index per test case, and then calling Index#close and deleting the containing dir during the teardown. The problem comes when GC.start kicks in after the deleting the directory: IOError: IO Error

Resetting ferret index before test runs
I need to reset the ferret index between test runs. It seems like there are a few ways to reset the ferret index. * Deleting the index directory -- is this really bad form? * calling rebuild_index * (any others?) What would y''all recommend? (Sorry, I''m from Texas) Preferably, I''d like a way to reset the index that I can integrate into a selenium test. -David

stop words and /''s
Hi new version of ferret and acts as ferret have sorted out the scary glibc *** linked list pointer errors, thank god! New version are good but some searches are still not working. It is mostly the stop words ones. For example the "For Sale/Free/Swap" fails but works when "for" is stripped out. I have read all the recent posts regarding this issue and failed to get it to

memcache

lock problems from concurrent processes.
Hi! First, thanks a LOT for ferret. The API and documentation is great. I''m trying to integrate ferret into a RoR app (DamageControl) and have run into a problem with locks. DamageControl consists of two processes that start up and run in parallel. The first one is the webapp (which is just a plain RoR app). The second is a daemon process that runs in the background. The daemon process

0.10.2 release with win32 gem
Hey all, I''ve just released Ferret version 0.10.2. It is mostly just a bug fix release. The only change is that a highlight method has been added to Ferret::Index::Index. Please try it out and let me know what you think. The big news for this release is that there is also a binary win32 gem included. This is the first time I''ve build a gem like this so please let me know if

Multiple servers for one index
Hi, I''m currently trying to set up a solution involving multiple servers using the same index over nfs. The problem is that from what I have seen, ferret doesn''t support multiple processes writing to the same index. Using a DRb service is not an option since this would create a single point of failure. I tried using Ferret::Store::FSDirectory to create a write lock on the the

what exactly does close_dir option do?
I''m trying to figure out if I should be setting close_dir to true or false when I access my index. It seems like this has something to do with the state that the index is left in after one process is finished using it, but it''s not clear exactly what this does. Can anybody explain further? Thanks, Carl

Loading an index into memory?
Is there a way to tell Ferret (or AAF) to read an entire index into memory, for faster searching? I have small index (3-4 MB) that could be kept in memory. Or does Ferret do that automatically? Thanks, --Paul -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Confused about Search Results
Hi everyone, I''m pretty new to Lucene and Ferret, so I feel that this is most likely myself not completely understanding the correct way to do this. I haved indexed ~2200 text files (of various sizes), and I am now running searches on the index to get a feel for Lucene and Ferret. In my first program, which is using Lucene I search for ''influenza'' and get the

A few questions about numbers and dates
Hi, I just noticed that Ferret seems to convert every field to a string [ruby code appended for those interested], which has thwarted my attempt to format Dates (to "dd/mm/yyyy") and Floats (to "n.nn") for consumption further down the line based on the class of the field stored. I considered pre-formatting Dates and Floats prior to indexing, which would store the field

Segmentation fault on large index
I''m getting a segmentation fault on a large index (15GB). I''m running ferret 0.11.4 on OpenSuSE 10.2 with ruby 1.8.6. The segmentation fault appeared after I optimized the index, see further below for the error message I got before that. Ferret works perfectly on other (smaller) indexes. Is this a known issue, and if so, is there a workaround? --------------------- after

Missing fields in search result
Hello ferret users, I have a problem with ferret dropping stored fields in the index. Not all fields I want to store get stored, so they can be searched, but can''t be retrieved in a search.
