Help - linear regression
Hi,
I am trying a linear regression model where the dependent variable is the size of the heart corrected for the patient's height and weight. This is labelled as LAVI. The independent variables are race (european or non-eurpoean), age, sex (male or female) of the patient and whether they have diabetes and high blood pressure. sample size 2000 patients selected from a community.

Date Time Conversion problems...
At one time (version 1.7), the code below used to work for converting and
extracting based on the Date Time. In version 1.8.1, something changed I
know, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what...

Problem with the step() function
Dear all,
I'm having some problems with using the step() function inside another
function. I think it is an environment problem but I do not know how to
overcome it. Any suggestions are appreciated.
I've prepared a simple example to illustrate my problem:
> library(MASS)
> data(Boston)
> my.fun <- function(dataset) {
+ l <- lm(medv ~ .,data=dataset)
+ final.l <-

why this function give error message
Dear R guru,
I am Saikat Sarkar working as a researcher of Economics in Tampere
University, Finland. I am trying to estimate some Garch related tests with
Bayesian analysis by R programme.
I am not good in R but trying to survive.
Anyway I have the coding but not working properly. I have tried to find the
problem but failed. I am writing to all R gurus to help me out.
Could you please look at

[BioC] problem with function
Hi Christian, Chuck (and lists)
It seems that the problem may be the strange behaviour of 'unstack' inside a function.
See this thread in the R mailing list:
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/help/04/03/1160.html
Anyway, I got round the problem by using 'aggregate' instead of converting to a list and then tapply to sum values of metric. Probably more efficient as well.
Thanks

Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'N' not found
I'm running an LSODA to generate some graphs, but I need to stop at a certain
point and use those values to generate another LSODA output. This is
working fine, but when I try to run the second LSODA, I get the "Error in
eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'N' not found". Any ideas what can be
causing this? I have no object 'N' anywhere in the script. I made an

LOOping problem with R
Dear Guys,
I do converting codes from Fortran into R and got stuck in solving LOOPING
procedure with R. In FORTRAN, it is (DO and END DO) for looping in the net.
In R, it is (FOR with { }).
I believe there is something wrong with my coding in R, do hope that you can
help me solving following problems.
It seems easy, but results are not the same.

Adding a subset to a glm messes up factors?
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with running a glm using a subset of my data. Whenever I choose a subset, in the summary the factors arent shown (as if the variable was a continuous variable). If I dont use subsets then all the factors are shown. I have copied the output from summary for both cases.
Thanks for the help,

How to get back POSIXct format after calculating with hist() results
Hi,
I have a casting/formatting question on hist.POSIXt:
The histogram plot from POSIXct works perfect (with help of Prof. Ripley
-thanks!).
When processing the hist(plot=FALSE) output and then plotting the
results over the x-axis (bins) coming from hist(), I lose the date/time
labels, getting instead integers displayed.
Trying to cast the $breaks with as.POSIXct gives silly results with
