Data reshaping with conditions
Hi sri,
As your problem involves a few logical steps, I found it easier to
approach it in a stepwise way. Perhaps there are more elegant ways to
accomplish this.

Data reshaping with conditions
Hi Jim,
Thanks for your time. But somehow this code did not help me to achieve my
expected output.
Problems: 1) x, y are coming as logical rather than values as I mentioned
in my post
2) The values that I get for Max A and Max B not correct
3) It looks like a pretty big data, but I just need to
concatenate the values with a comma, the final output will be a character

simpleR or usingR package by Verzani
I am a new R user and so I thought I could start with "Using R for
Introductory statistics" by Verzani.
In order to use some of the functions and datasets I have to install the
simpleR package which is is now inside the UsingR package. I did so
using
>install.packages("UsingR"). However, the functions such as
"simple.freqpoly.R" do not work.
I also tried to

ggplot2 will not draw a rectangle. Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class XXX"
What am I missing? When I run the code below I get the error message
"Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class function"
Googling suggests a message of "Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class XXX" is not uncommon but I don't see why I am getting a "function" error unless I am using some reserved word?

Data reshaping with conditions
Dear All,
I am trying to reshape the data with some conditions. A small part of the

yeroon.net/ggplot2 web application v0.11
A new version of the ggplot2 web application is available at
http://www.yeroon.net/ggplot2. New features include 1D geom?s
(histogram,?density, freqpoly), syntax mode (by clicking the tiny
arrow at the?bottom), and some additional facet options. Furthermore
some minor?improvements and fixes, most notably for Internet Explorer.
As usual, a little demo video that shows how to use the new features:

tabulate can accept NA values?
tabulate has
.C("R_tabulate", as.integer(bin), as.integer(length(bin)),
as.integer(nbins), ans = integer(nbins), PACKAGE="base")$ans
The implementation of R_tabulate has
if(x[i] != R_NaInt && x[i] > 0 && x[i] <= *nbin)
and so copes with (silently drops) NA. Perhaps the .C could have
NAOK=TRUE? This is useful in apply'ing tabulate to

bar plot with non-zero starting level
Hi,
I want to plot grouped bars to compare 95% confidence interval estimates
from two models. Each bar represents a 95% confidence interval estimate
of a coefficient from one of the two models. Each group represents
confidence interval estimates of the same coefficient from the two models.
I think such a bar plot will nicely present whether 95% confidence
interval estimates of the same

functions for flat file import/export + utilities
Dear R-Developers,
please find attached a set of drafted functions for flat file import and
export, partially extending existing functions, partially completely written
as new code.
I thought you might be interested in those functions and the accompanying
utilities for padding and trimming.
Main features are

vertex labels in igraph from adjacency matrix
I am getting some unexpected results from some functions of igraph and
it is possible that I am misinterpreting the vertex numbers. Eg., the
max betweenness measure seems to be from a vertex that is not connected
to a single other vertex. Below if my code snippet:
require(igraph)
my.graph <- graph.adjacency(adjmatrix = my.adj.matrix, mode=c("undirected"))

ggplot2 geom_rect(): What am I missing here
Hi R fans,
As a newbie following the five-hour rule (after hitting my head against
the wall for five hours, post to this list), I am appealing for some
help understanding geom_rect() in ggplot2.
What I want to do is very simple. I want to generate a plot of
rectangles. Each one represents a business cycle. The x-values will be
pairs representing the start and end of each cycle. The y-values

Binning Question
Hi,
I'm trying to setup some complicated binning with statistics and could
use a little help.
I've found the bin2 function from the ash package, but it doesn't do
everything I need. My intention is to copy some of their code and then
modify as needed.
I have a vector of two columns:
head(data)
r1 r2
[1,] 0.03516559 0.03102128
[2,] 0.02162539 0.14847034

density() integrates to 1?
Visual inspection of the plot of a density() function vs a normal with
the same mean and variance suggests the area under the density curve is
bigger than under the normal curve. The two curves are very close over
most of the domain. Assuming the normal curve does integrate to 1, this
implies the area under density() is > 1.
Is there any assurance that the density kernel smoother produces

ggplot2 freqpoly() layers..?
Hi,
I was trying to overlay/combine two freqpoly plots. The sample code below illustrates the problem. Essentially, I want to do is:
1. Have the same colour for all the lines in 'Plot 1' (and 'Plot 2').
Currently, all the lines in Plot 1 have different colours and all the
lines in Plot 2 have different colors. I'd like for all lines in Plot 1
to be 'red' and all

truncated negative binomial using rnegbin
Dear R users,
I'm wanting to sample from the negative binomial distribution using the
rnegbin function from the MASS library to create artificial samples for the
purpose of doing some power calculations. However, I would like to work
with samples that come from a negative binomial distribution that includes
only values greater than or equal to 1 (a truncated negative binomial), and

ggplot2 histograms... a subtle error found
Hello all,
I have a peculiar and particular bug that I stumbled across with
ggplot2. I cannot seem to replicate it with anything other than my specific
data set.
Here is the problem:
- when I try to plot a histogram, allowing for ggplot2 to decide the
binwidths itself, I get the following error:
- stat_bin: binwidth defaulted to range/30. Use 'binwidth = x' to

selecting clusters of points
All:
Are there any functions out there for selecting all the
points in a region of a plot. I envision something like the
identify() function except one could circle a cloud of points (and
perhaps a vector would be returned of the same length as the points
plotted indicating logical membership in the circled cloud). Perhaps
someone has done something with the locator() function that would
