attach() warning message
Hi,
I am using R 2.3.0 and my .First() file has the following line which causes
a warning:
attach(what="c:/r/jmb/.RData", pos=3)
I get the following message after .First() is loaded:
During startup - Warning message:
use of NULL environment is deprecated
Is there a simple fix that will eliminate this warning message? Thanks.

Dear all,
I am a new user of R, here I have a question about remove the previous
restored workspace. I saved the workspace last time, but R always

object and then close R without saving. But next time when I open R, it

directory, but I have no clue

RData loading weirdness
I've just had an interesting thing happen to one of our students. He's

Starting R caused a seg fault shortly after "[Previously saved

.Rprofile, .Rfirst, and .Rdata
Hi all,
After a short hiatus away from R I have found that it's changed a bit.
I used to keep a definition of .First in .Rprofile that did a couple of
things on startup (load a couple of libraries). Now, I've discovered
that when I change the definition of .First in .Rprofile it doesn't
change anything when I start up, because .First is held over in .Rdata
from the last session.

load file RData which store in zip file
Dear R users,
My situation:
(1) I have limited workspace for my work harddisk (about 10 GiB).
(2) I have a lot of data files in R workspace (*.RData) which most of
them > 200 MiB. For some reason I zip some of them, for instance
"filename.RData (250 MiB)" to "filename.zip (3MiB)". In this work I
have a lot of more space of my harddisk.
Normally, If I want to use

S4 packages and .Rdata file.
Dear developers.
Have spend just 1 h searching for a bug in a new version of a new
version of a package.
I was getting a segfault all the time. "Funny" thing - there was no
error neither in the S nor in the C code.
To solve the problem I had to delete the .Rdata file!
What I observed. If the .Rdata file was generated while a previous
release of a package was installed in the

getting the name of the working .Rdata file
dear all,
I do not if it is a nonsense question..
Is it possible in the R session to get the name of the current .Rdata
file that I ran?
I mean: suppose I double click the file myfile.Rdata. ls() returns the
names of the objects in the current workspace (that is saved in
myfile.Rdata). In the current R session, I would like to obtain
"myfile.Rdata". Is it possible?
Thanks in

autoloading .RData files / .Rhistory file
NOTE: WinXP, R2.2.0
All,
a while back I posted a question about using relative filereferencing.
The responses have allowed me to successfully set up the following
directory structure:
...\data\raw
...\data\derived
...\prog
...\lst
...\log
In the \prog directory I have put an RGui.exe shortcut and "pointed it"
at \prog as the "Start In" location. In the same

Fatal error: unable to restore saved data in .RData
Hello,
I am unable to start an R session by double-clicking on an existing
.RData file from the Windoze file explorer.
A dialogue appears with the message
"Fatal error: unable to restore saved data in .RData",
and I notice in the R Console the last few lines are:

Large discrepancies in the same object being saved to .RData
Hi developers,
After some investigation I have found there can be large discrepancies in the same object being saved as an external "xx.RData" file. The immediate repercussion of this is the possible increased size of your .RData workspace for no apparent reason.
The function and its three scenarios below highlight these discrepancies. Note that the object being returned is exactly

Version of R in saved workspaces
useRs and developeRs-
Apologies for my naivety, but I just couldn't figure out how to open an
old workspace (created using R 2.3.0) using R 2.3.0 and not R 2.4.0
which is currently happening. For all I know this has always been the
case, but I'm having a problem with a function that doesn't work in
2.4.0 but does work in 2.3.1 (function is in the process of being
fixed). So I would

problem with an old .RData file
Dear useRs,
Today I've encountered a weird unexpected behaviour. It is not a real
problem for me and I can workaround it. But I'm very curious of what
could have caused it.
Starting an R session in a directory with an old .RData my first command
was
> library(MASS)
and i got

Error in opening .RData containing a genefilter object
Hi,
I discover that when I save a workspace containing a genefilter (pkg
from Bioconductor) object I cannot open no more after. I have to
restore the .RData file from a backup to be able to start R again.
I didn't upgrade to Version 2.2 but I'm not sure that it will solve the
problem.
Did anyone have encounter the same problem?
Below is a short r session to reproduce the error:

More on global environment
To follow up on my previous question, suppose a user R session wants to
unload one workspace and load another within an R session. Is the
following the correct sequence?
1. save.image() to save the current workspace as .Rdata in the current
working directory.
2. rm(list=ls()) to remove everything from the workspace.
3. setcwd("xxx") to set the new working directory.
4.
