puppet file recursion requires two passes to converge
Hi, So for awhile I have been seeing this issue but it hasn''t been painful. However, recently I have been deploying a new module that has made it much more annoying. file { cdh3_config: recurse => true, ignore => ".svn", checksum => md5, notify => Exec[hadoop_alternatives], require

Specify Z matrix with lmer function
Is there a way to specify a Z matrix using the lmer function, where the model is written as y = X*Beta + Z*u + e? I am trying to reproduce smoothing methods illustrated in the paper "Smoothing with Mixed Model Software" my Long Ngo and M.P. Wand. published in the /Journal of Statistical Software/ in 2004 using the lme4 and Matrix packages. The code and data sets used can be found at

I would like to place the value for each bar in barchart (lattice) at the top of each bar. Incompatability of lme4 and Matrix packages
I just installed R 2.4 on a windows machine and installed the lme4 package version 0.9975-1. Unfortunately this version requires the 0.9975-2 version of the Matrix package which I cannot seem to find. It seems the newest version I can find is 0.9975-1. Is there somewhere I could find this newer version. Mark Lyman

Adding points to a wireframe with conditioning variable
I would like to add points to a wireframe but with a conditioning variable. I found a solution for this without a conditioning variable here, http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/65321.html. Does anyone know how to plot a wireframe conditioned on a variable and add the points conditioned on the same variable, similar to the solution at the link above?

pdIdent in smoothing regression model
Hi there, I am reading the 2004 paper "Smoothing with mixed model software" in Journal of Statistical Software, by Ngo and Wand. I tried to run their first example in Section 2.1 using R but I had some problems. Here is the code: library(nlme) fossil <- read.table("fossil.dat",header=T) x <- fossil$age y <- 100000*fossil$strontium.ratio knots <-

Problem with mpi.close.Rslaves()
I am running R 2.7.0 on a Suse 9.1 linux cluster with a job scheduler dispatching jobs and openmpi-1.0.1. I have tried running one of the examples at http://ace.acadiau.ca/math/ACMMaC/Rmpi/examples.html in Rmpi and they seem to be working, except mpi.close.Rslaves() hangs. The slaves are closed, but the master doesn't finish its script. Below is the example script and the call to R. The job is

LLVM Social in Austin - Nov. 15?
Hi everyone, There seems to be a good level of interest in this; so we should settle on a time and location. It has been pointed out that previous socials were held at http://bbrovers.com/ - we seem to have a preference for the availability of alcoholic beverages, and otherwise no strong opinions have been expressed. Logistically, we should pick someplace likely to have flexibility regarding

Jitter buffer latency
Hi Jean-Marc, Thanks for your response. Given a worst case scenario, what is the "worst case" latency (in terms of Speex frames) that the jitter buffer algorithm will incur? We're trying to determine the worst case hard number. Sorry for unclear question below; what I was trying to ask is that given a worst case latency (which I'm asking in the first question) inherent in

apply() just loops ?
Dear R users, I have been diligently using the apply() family in order to avoid explicit for loops and speed up computation. However, when I finally inspected the source code for apply, it appears that the core computation is a simple loop as well. What am I missing ? Why the often found advice to use apply() instead of loops and the actually observed empirical speedups on many tasks ? Thanks in
