Adding mean values to boxplots
Hello there, I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me as I'm pretty new to R. I'm trying to create a boxplot from a data table returned from an sproc. I have the following code, which generates the plot as I'd like it: library("RODBC"); conn <- odbcConnect("datawarehouse"); # connect to datawarehouse results <- sqlQuery(conn, "call

How to show numerical values on boxplots
Hi, dear all, I want to show numerical values with decimal points on the boxplots. Here is what I did: For example; x1<-rnorm(100,2,2); x2<-rexp(100); label<-rep(1:2, rep(100,2)) median<-round(c(median(x1), median(x2)),3) boxplot(c(x1, x2)~label, medpch=paste(median), medcex=1.2) It only shows the integers at the median position in the boxplots. How to make it show more decimal

adding mean to boxplot
I am a new and unexperienced user of R and got so far as to know how to produce boxplots. I have no experience of messing with function code, so presently I do not know how to create a boxplot with group means instead of group medians. If somebody could help me either replace the median with the mean or superimpose the mean onto the existing boxplot, it would be appreciated.

adding the mean and standard deviation to boxplots
Dear list, How can I add the mean and standard deviation to each of the boxplots using the example provided in the boxplot function? boxplot(len ~ dose, data = ToothGrowth, boxwex = 0.25, at = 1:3 - 0.2, subset = supp == "VC", col = "yellow", main = "Guinea Pigs' Tooth Growth", xlab = "Vitamin C dose mg",

boxplots
Dear R user group, I am working with boxplots and cannot solve the following problem: > data<-c(0,15,0,60,0,0,0,0,0,60,60,0,60,0,30,0) > data [1] 0 15 0 60 0 0 0 0 0 60 60 0 60 0 30 0 > boxplot(data) The boxplot has the first hinge and the mean-bar both at 0... Why is this the mean is clearly >0! Thanking you and wishing you an excellent day, Georg.

connecting boxplots
Hii, I created some boxplots with this commands: x <-read.table(file="test.txt") x$group <- rep(1:8, each=5) boxplot(V3~gruppe, data=x) Now, I will connect the boxplots to each other to the min, max and median values. Can anybody help me how to do it ? greetings, J -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/connecting-boxplots-tp21405459p21405459.html Sent from

ordered boxplots
Dear List-Members, I would like to produce a ordered boxplot in which the categories with the smallest median are plotted at the left end and the box with the largest median at the right. Thanks in advance for any advices Thomas H.

Displaying median value over the horizontal(median)line in the boxplot

boxplot(): formating median in another linethickness?
Dear guRus, I want to do some boxplots, but the median sould appear in another line-thickness and another color. I do not know, what to do in order to realise my wishes. Text on a boxplot graph
Hi all, Could anybody help me figure out how to write text on a boxplot. I have to plot 9 boxplots side by side on a single graph. On the x-axis I write numeric values with the 'names' argument but I'd like to add one label (character value) in the middle of each box. I know how to use the text() function for regular y~x plots but in this particular case, I'm kinda lost...

method or package to make special boxplot
Hi, All, I am trying to use R to make the following type of boxplot while I couldn't find a way to do it. My dataset looks like X1 Y1 X2 Y2.... SPLIT. The split highlights my experiment details and both x and y are continuous numerical values. I need to plot y vs. x with split as legend and boxplot has to be used for all splits. May I ask how to get it? Currently available boxplot only

boxplot statistics
I have read and reread the boxplot and the boxplot stats page, and I still cannot understand how and what boxplot shows. I realize that this might be due to me not knowing enough statistics, but anyway... First, how does boxplot determine the size of the box? And is the line inside the box the mean or the median (or something completely different?) And how does it determine how long out the

Lattice boxplots
Hi All, I'm familiar with bwplot() in lattice package. Is it possible to get such a boxplot using lattice package: http://www.reading.ac.uk/ssc/publications/graphics/mma-fig1.gif instead of the following default: http://media.wiley.com/wires/WICS/WICS22/mfig005.gif My aim is to get a compact boxplot for publication. Having legend can help because otherwise x-axis labels are repeated for

Lines connecting the boxes in a boxplot
Hello, I'm currently using a boxplot to visualize data for three different models. As I have three models, I'm plotting three parallel boxplots for each factor. This works fine - what I need now is a line connecting the medians of each boxplot of each model. I want to do this in order to visualize the trend that one of the models exhibit. Basically, I want to plot a curve for each model

Boxplots over a Scatterplot
Hello- I'm new to R, coding and stats. (Oh no.) Anyway, I have about 12000 data points in a data.frame (dealing with dimensions and geological stage information for fossil protists) and have plotted them in a basic scatter plot. I also added a boxplot to overlay these points. Each worked fine independently, but when I attempt to superimpose them with add=true, I get a different scale for

questions about boxplots
Hi, there. I have two questions about using R to create boxplots. 1. The function boxplot() plots the outliers. How can I label the exact values arount these outlier points? Does R have an option allow me to do that? 2. How can I put two boxplots in one x-y axis? Thanks. boxplot with average instead of median
I really like the ease of use with the boxplot command in R. I would rather have a boxplot that shows the average value and the standard deviation then the median value and the quartiles. Is there a way to do this? Chad Junkermeier, Graduate Student Dept. of Physics West Virginia University PO Box 6315 210 Hodges Hall Morgantown WV 26506-6315 phone: (304) 293-3442 ext. 1430 fax: (304)
