data messed up by read.table ? (PR#9779)
Full_Name: Joerg Rauh Version: 2.5.0 OS: Windows 2000 Submission from: (NULL) (84.168.226.163) Following Michael J. Crawley "Statistical Computing" on page 9 the worms.txt is required. After downloading it from the book's supporting website, which is http://www.bio.ic.ac.uk/research/mjcraw/statcomp/data/ I visually check the data against the book and they look identical. Then I do

subcripts on data frames (PR#9885)
I'm not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm doing something wrong. =20 =46rom the worms dataframe, which is at in a file called worms.txt at =20 http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bio/research/crawley/therbook <http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bio/research/mjcraw/therbook/index.htm>=20 =20 the idea is to extract a subset of the rows, sorted in declining order of worm density, with only the maximum

best predictive model for mixed catagorical/continuous variables
Would anybody be able to advise on which package would offer the best approach for producing a model able to predict the probability of species occupation based upon a range of variables, some of them catagorical (eg. ten soil types where the numbers assigned are not related to any qualitative/quantitative continuum or vegetation type) and others continuous such as field size or vegetation height.

Cross-correlograms or cross-variograms in R?
Hello group, For my PhD I'm working on a spatial sampling grid. I do have two data sets which I'd like to compare using cross-correlograms or cross-variograms. Is this an option in one of the R-packages? I've been searching the R-help archive and the available package-documentations, but I can't find how to do this. Thanks in advance, Ren?.

Dominant factors in aov?
Hi all, I'm using R 2.0.1. for Windows to analyze the influence of following factors on response Y: A (four levels) B (three levels) C (two levels) D (29 levels) with E (four replicates) The dataset looks like this: A B C D E Y 0 1 1 1 1 491.9 0 1 1 1 2 618.7 0 1 1 1 3 448.2 0 1 1 1 4 632.9 250 1 1 1 1 92.4 250 1 1 1 2 117 250 1 1 1 3 35.5 250 1 1 1 4 102.7 500 1 1 1 1 47 500 1 1 1 2 57.4

Point pattern to grid
Dear all, I'd like to change a point pattern to a grid of cells and use one of the variables as the output. e.g. The point pattern is of a window of (500*500) and several features such as pH, SoilType etc. I like to divide it into a grid with cell size 5*5, and use the mean of the point values falling inside the cell as the output. Is there any package in R working with this? Thanks in

How to reduce memory demands in a function?
I've written a function that regularly throws the "cannot allocate vector of size X Kb" error, since it contains a loop that creates large numbers of big distance matrices. I'd be very grateful for any simple advice on how to reduce the memory demands of my function. Besides increasing memory.size to the maximum available, I've tried reducing my "dist" objects to 3

variables - data-structure
dear R-friends, i`ve got a large dataset of vegetation-samples with about 500 variables(=species) in the following format: 1 spec1 1 spec23 1 spec54 1 spec63 2 spec1 2 spec2 2 spec253 2 spec300 2 spec423 3 spec20 3 spec88 3 spec121 3 spec200 3 spec450 . . this means: sample 1 (grassland) with the species (=spec) 1, 23, 54, 63 is it possible to get a following data-structure for further

How to create a "nb" object?
Hi group, I'd like to do spatial analysis of my data using the spdep package. It appears that a file of class nb is necessary, but I do not find what that should look like and if there is a function that creates such file for me. How can I create a nb-object of my data points? Thanks, René Eschen. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

using lme in csimtest
Hi group, I'm trying to do a Tukey test to compare the means of a factor ("treatment") with three levels in an lme model that also contains the factors "site" and "time": model = response ~ treatment * (site + time) When I enter this model in csimtest, it takes all but the main factor "treatment" as covariables, not as factors (see below). Is it

P-values in ncf package
Group, I'm currently trying to find out how the function correlog in the ncf package may be useful to me for calculating cross-correlograms. The function's output includes P-values for all distance classes, but it seems that only positive values can become significant. Is this true and correct? If so, why? Thanks in advance. Ren? Model design
Dear List, I am realtively inexperienced so i apologise in advance and ask for understanding in the simplicity of my question: I have data on the amount of grass per km in a cell ( of which i have lots) "grass" and for each cell i have x/y coordinates - required due to spatial autocorrelation Cells can be classfied in a hierarchical nature into AREAS and STATES i.e Cell 1, Cell 2,

Adonis and nmds help and questions for a novice.
Hi, forgive me if someone has already posted about this but I have had a look and cannot find the answer, also I am very new to R and been getting the grips with this. I have been trying to use Adonis to find out if there are significant difference between groups on data that I have analyses with NMDS, and have been struggling with getting this to work and understanding what is going on. wow! and what about h/w players for vorbis files?
wow! i must say vorbis deprecates mp3! lol. although, i had to use the "OSS/3d for XMMS" plugin on my sblive value w/ 4 point sound to get a proper base. On my other box with a diff card, bass is just fine. however, are there any h/w players for vorbis files? the faq only states one manufacturer called iObjects but i see no portable players! Basically, i want to player vorbis files
