Test for equality of coefficients in multivariate multipleregression
Dear Berwin, Simply stacking the problems and treating the resulting observations as independent will give you the correct coefficients, but incorrect coefficient variances and artificially zero covariances. The approach that I suggested originally -- testing a linear hypothesis using the coefficient estimates and covariances from the multivariate linear model -- seems simple enough. For

long character string problem
Hi All I am having 2 very long character strings (550chars) and I want to put them as expressions together with c(). The problem is that I also get these double-quotes, as seen below in 'fct'. How can I remove these double-quotes? I tried as.name() but it did not work (because of size?). These are creating trouble with subsequent programs, which I tested with strings that for some

[LLVMdev] broken LLVM-MC?
Hi, It seems LLVM-MC is broken with Avx512? $ echo "vinserti32x4 \$1, %xmm21, %zmm5, %zmm17"|./Release+Asserts/bin/llvm-mc -assemble -arch=x86-64 -show-encoding -x86-asm-syntax=att .text vinserti32x4 $1, %xmm21, %zmm5, %zmm17 # encoding: [0x62,0xa3,0x55,0x48,0x38,0xcd,0x01] $ echo "0x62,0xa3,0x55,0x48,0x38,0xcd,0x01" |./Release+Asserts/bin/llvm-mc -disassemble

stepwise regression
Dear all, I have encountered a problem when perform stepwise regression. The dataset have more 9 independent variables, but 7 observation. In R, before performing stepwise, a lm object should be given. fm <- lm(y ~ X1 + X2 + X3 + X11 + X22 + X33 + X12 + X13 + X23) However, summary(fm) will give: Residual standard error: NaN on 0 degrees of freedom Multiple R-Squared: 1, Adjusted

[PATCH] promised MMX patches rc1
Hello, Here is my first speedup patch. Like 10-11%. No IDCT yet. Please feel free to comment my code or even better think about improvements. :) I belive my routines are not so bad, maybe one day they will be even more faster. What needs to be optimized is the loop filter fuction. I have no ideas now how to do it. It does not leave much space for parallel stuff, copying memory from lot of

[LLVMdev] broken LLVM-MC?
Well, you’ll probably need to specify which CPU for the instructions to be recognized as valid encodings. -mcpu=knl doesn’t seem sufficient, though, so there’s probably something more going on. Elena, do you know what’s happening here? It’s important that the disassembler work with the new instructions as well as the assembler. I looked but didn’t see any disassembler tests for avx512. -Jim On

extracting rows and columns from a big matrix
Hi there and thanks in advance. I have a large symmetrical matrix stored in a text file. After load in R I would like to extract the same number of columns and rows (symmetrical submatrix) using their labels. I have tried this code in order to extract columns, but R console gives me the "+" sign at the end of the code, pointing out incomplete command, so it is not working:

I have a dataset that is basically structureless. horizontal direct product
II am translating some gauss code into R, and gauss has a matrix product function called the horizontal direct product (*~), which is some sort of variant on the Kronecker product. For example if x is 2x2 and y is 2x2 the horizontal direct product, z, of x and y is defined (in the Gauss manual) as: row 1 = x11*y11 x11*y12 x12*y11 x12*y12 row 2 = x21*y21 x21*y22 x22*y21 x22*y22 Or in R

Take the maximum of every 12 columns
Dear all, I have monthly data in wide format, I am only providing data (at the bottom of the email) for the first 24 columns but I have 2880 columns in total. I would like to take max of every 12 columns. I have taken the mean of every 12 columns with the following code: byapply <- function(x, by, fun, ...) { # Create index list if (length(by) == 1) { nc <- ncol(x)

Error in AnnotationDbi package - makeProbePackage
Dear all, We have developed our own Affymetrix chip (Custom Express Array, PM-only with two species). I want to analyse the data with the limma package, but for that I need to built my own CDF package, probe package and built the filters to analyse one specie or another. I'm using the makeProbePackage available in the AnnotationDbi (for a R-2.13.0) but I got the following error message:

Recommended package nlme: bug in predict.lme when an independent variable is a polynomial (PR#8905)
Full_Name: Renaud Lancelot Version: Version 2.3.0 (2006-04-24) OS: MS Windows XP Pro SP2 Submission from: (NULL) (82.239.219.108) I think there is a bug in predict.lme, when a polynomial generated by poly() is used as an explanatory variable, and a new data.frame is used for predictions. I guess this is related to * not * using, for predictions, the coefs used in constructing the orthogonal

pgfSweave doesn't lazyload my objects
Hi all, I'm struggling a bit to get pgfSweave to lazyload objects when compiling a .Rnw file for a second time. Caching works fine except that for every run all objects get cached again and again. I've used cacheSweave which works fine; all cached objects from code-chunks with option cache = TRUE are lazy loaded. I've tried it on two machines ... I'm pretty sure I'm

passing an extra argument to an S3 generic
I'm trying to write some functions extending influence measures to multivariate linear models and also allow subsets of size m>=1 to be considered for deletion diagnostics. I'd like these to work roughly parallel to those functions for the univariate lm where only single case deletion (m=1) diagnostics are considered. Corresponding to stats::hatvalues.lm, the S3 method for class

Sink redundant spill after RA
Hi All, I found some cases where a spill of a live range in a block is reloaded only in one of its successors, and there is no reload in other paths through other successors. Since the spill is reloaded only in a certain path, it must be okay to sink such spill close to its reloads. In the AArch64 code below, there is a spill(x2) in the entry, but this value is reloaded only in %bb.1, not in

Help on nested FOR loops
I am new to more radical programming in R. I am trying to write a nested 'for' loop to produce output that takes subscripts like: for i taking values 1,2,3,4,5 and j taking values 1,2,3 I want to output for a computation using the combination values of i and j a value x like this; i j x 1 1 x11 1 2 x12 1 3 x13 2 1 x21 2 2 x22 2 3 x23 3 1 x31 3 2 x32
