Re: [S] Labels wrong with lrm
Dear Jan,
Thank you very much for your excellent description of the
problem and the self-contained test code. This is a
problem that I've been meaning to either document better
or solve for some time. The root of the problem is with
the builtin S-Plus terms.inner function:
> attr(terms.inner(asthma ~ pol(age,kx) + smok),'variables')
expression(age, kx, smok)
You can see that

problem with substitute
Hello, I have a data base with variables pasthma, kasthma, sex, etc.
I wrote a program to compute the Kappa statistic between pasthma and
kasthma.
Actually "did the child had asthma" answered by the parents and by the
child.
kappa <- function(x) {
r <- paste("p",evaluate(x),sep="")
c <- paste("k",evaluate(x),sep="")
a <- table(r,c)

Hola.
Como te dijo Carlos, el problema está en los nombres de las columnas y en
los nombres de las filas. Cuando hice la importación (con
dd<-read.csv('mortality.csv'), tuve problemas con las filas de nombre:
- Malignant tumour of the larynx trachea bronchus and lungs
- Malignant tumour of the lip pharynx and mouth
- Other endocrinological metabolic and nutritional conditions

Help with tables
Hello, I'm new using R and developing tables.
I have a problem in developing a table. In a questionaire I made I ask this
question "Please tell me the first three sympthoms caused by Respiratory
tract infection you've caught this year", then the people answer three
sympthoms, the first mention (Top of mind) is saved in a variable called
"P2_A", the second mention in

Adjunto
tabla original
Saludos cordiales

Can you help with empirical probability?
Hi Partha. I really liked your email that you sent me, it really inspired me. I have been breezing through the chapters, and doing quite well, You should be a teacher. After all the time my college instructor spent with the class on the slopes etc.... There were very few of us who really understood it. However, after reading

pbc data
Hi there,
Can anyone please help me because I am going to get crazy with the pbc data set. I just want to apply simple cox regression in the data set. I am a beginner in R but I don't think I am doing anything wrong.
I have the book of Fleming and Harrington 1990. I perform cox regression by typing:
out<- coxph(Surv(times/365,status)~log(bili)+log(proth)+edema+log(albumin)+age)

When Upgrading Wine
So, version .16 has come out and I wouldn't mind upgrading. The thing is, I have to patch my Wine source code for a particular game. I guess I have to remove the Wine version I have now, patch the .16 and compile the source code? If there is another way, please let me know.
Though, my main question is if I uninstall Wine, will it take thing installed with it; I mean, does .wine still exist

Strange behavior using subset
Dear R Gurus,
Let's get the technical details out of the way first:
Computer: 1.83 GHz MacBook
R version 2.5.1
I have a data set that contains the following variables: site,
species, total.vines. I need to partition the main data set by site,
the further select only those species that occurred at each site.
When I select by site (site.name<-subset(data frame,Site=="Site

Adding a time variable prior to using reshape
Hi,
I want to use reshape to convert from a skinny to a wide data format. My data doesn't have a time variable attached - I have a series of ordered observations for each subject, and it is this ordering that I am interested in (my objective is to model the most recent observation based on the preceding observations). From my understanding, prior to using reshape I have to attach a time

Do we need WINS Replication?
We have 2 segments of the corporate network,
which are connected by a unstable(~90% uptime) 2Mbps link.
This link cannot be made better.
So, we are to use 2 WINS servers(both Samba 2.2.8a) - one server in one segment.
However, if 2 clients register on 2 different WINS servers,
they can't mount network drives of each other.
I've tried to use the WINS servers as primary and secondary

I configured the TDM with loopstart signalling. For a few days, all

Error message when using zero-inflated count regression model in package zicounts
I have data on number of vines per tree for ~550 trees. Over half of
the trees did not have any vines and the data is fairly skewed
(median = 0, mean = 1.158, 3rd qu. = 1.000). I am attempting to
investigate whether plot location (four sites), species (I'm using
only the four most common species), or tree dbh has a significant
influence on the number of vines per tree. When I
