lattice: wireframe "eats up" points; how to make points on wireframe visible?
Dear expeRts, I would like to add two points to a wireframe plot. The points have (x,y,z) coordinates where z is determined to be on the wireframe [same z-value]. Now something strange happens. One point is perfectly plotted, the other isn't shown at all. It only appears if I move it upwards in z-direction by adding a positive number. So somehow it disappears in the wireframe-surface

Controlling (number of) wires in wireframe
Hi, I would like to plot a wireframe (library: lattice) of the function f (x,y)=x*y where x and y are equally evaluated between 0 and 1. When one uses the option drape=TRUE then each "square" between the "wires" (lines that build the surface shape) gets a certain color. A perfect wireframe plot of a continuous surface would be, if you (almost) can not distinguish

mtext in trellis-loop & colorkey
Hello, I would like to create a sequence of plots (using a for loop). I read in the FAQ that print() has to be used in order to obtain any output. This works perfectly fine as long as I only consider one function call in the loop, but I would like to add mtext() to the each plot in the loop. Unfortunately, this did not work. Any suggestions? As you can see from the provided example,

lattice: How to increase space between ticks and labels of z-axis?
Dear expeRts, How can I increase the space between the ticks and the labels in the wireframe plot below? I tried some variations with par.settings=list(..) but it just didn't work. Many thanks, Marius library(lattice) u <- seq(0, 1, length.out=20) grid <- expand.grid(x=u, y=u) z <- apply(grid, 1, function(x) 1/(x[1]*x[2]+0.0001)) wireframe(z~grid[,1]*grid[,2], aspect=1,

wireframe zlim option
Hello, I would like to plot a wireframe of a function which is defined on the unit square using the lattice library (for trellis-like plots). The plot contains z-values of about 100 (only in the neighborhood of zero) although most of the z-values are in the range of -let's say- 0 to 10. If I evaluate this function on an equidistant grid of 25 points on the unit square the plot quality is not

creating pdf of wireframe
Dear R list, I have written some code to produce several wireframe plots in a panel. They look good, but when I try to create a pdf, many (but not all) of the details I have specified are not reproduced. For example, the line width I have specified is not reproduced, and neither are the font sizes for the axis labels. I'm an R novice, so I could really use some guidance. Here is the code I am

Changing Tick Mark Values for lattice / wireframe
How can I change the tick mark values in lattice, specifically wireframe? I have a 11*46 matrix of values that I am plotting using wireframe. Unfortunely, the values range from 0.1-1.1 and 0.5-5. Using the code below the tick marks have are (2,4,6,8,10) and (10,20,30,40). Thanks in advance. graphic5 <- wireframe(output.matrix, shade= TRUE, scales = list(arrows = FALSE, cex=.6,

grayscale wireframe??
I need grayscale formatting for a wireframe. The only col.regions that I can find are color palettes are all colored: rainbow(n, s = 1, v = 1, start = 0, end = max(1,n - 1)/n, gamma = 1, alpha = 1) heat.colors(n, alpha = 1) terrain.colors(n, alpha = 1) topo.colors(n, alpha = 1) cm.colors(n, alpha = 1) The code follows: X11() library(lattice) par(family="serif", cex=1.2)

X11 device
Hi, I am working with R on a Mac Powerbook G4. As described a couple of days ago, I would like to create an animation consisting of - say - 1000 plots (lattice: xyplot, wireframe etc.). Everything works perfectly fine (thanks to all of you for the suggestions and ideas), but before I am able to plot (.png's in a for-loop), I have to start a X11 device. I was wondering if it is

wireframe color
Hello, hopefully simple question, but I cannot find the answer. I need to change the color from the standard default. Still want the scaled colors, but need different colors for different graphs. Code is: wireframe(z ~ y*x, mat.df, drape = TRUE, zlab = list("Water mass error (%)",rot=92), zlim=c(-50,180), xlab = list("Resistance error

Suppress only Z axis tick marks and numbers in wireframe statement
I actually have several questions revolving around the generation of wireframe plots. The most pressing is that which is described by the subject line. I am trying to produce a figure with x, y, and z labels, but only tick marks on the x, and y axes. I have supplied sample code below substituting the volcano data set for my own such that you may run the code and see the results.

How to set an argument such that a function treats it as missing?
Dear expeRts, I would like to call a function f from a function g with or without an argument. I use missing() to check if the argument is given. If it is not given, can I set it to anything such that the following function call (to f) behaves as if the argument isn't given? It's probably best described by a minimal example (see below). The reason why I want to do this is, that I do

latex() etc.: How to nicely format a matrix for a LaTeX document?
Dear (T)eXpeRts, I try to create a LaTeX table from an R matrix for the first time. I am not sure what the "best" approach is, I just read about latex() from Hmisc (toLatex() didn't work). Consider the following minimal example: library(Hmisc) mat <- matrix(c(1,NA,3,100,10000,4), ncol = 3, byrow = TRUE) latex(mat, file = "", booktabs = TRUE, numeric.dollar = FALSE,

How to create an array of lists of multiple components?
Hi, how can I create an array of lists of three components? This approach does not work: n1 <- 2 n2 <- 4 n3 <- 5 res <- array(rep(vector("list",3), n1*n2*n3), dim = c(n1,n2,n3)) res[1,1,1] # is not a list with three components... The goal is that res[1,1,1] is a list with three components. Also, appending the components didn't work. For example, I tried: component

splom, plotmath: how to add three lines of information with alignment?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a scatter plot matrix with splom(). The lower panel should contain some additional information about the samples shown in the upper panel plot, see the splom() call below. Now two questions came up: (1) The lower panels show "tau" and "alpha" on top of each other. How can I plot *three* expressions on top of each other? I tried several

Quiz: Who finds the nicest form of X_1^\prime?
Dear expeRts, I would like to create a plotmath-label of the form X_1^\prime. Here is how to *not* do it [not nicely aligned symbols]: plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X*minute[1]))) plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X[1]*minute))) plot(0,0,main=expression(italic(X)[1]*minute)) Any suggestions? Cheers, Marius

lattice + plotmath: how to get a variable in bold face?
Dear all, How can I get a bold "1000" in the title? I would like to use a variable (as opposed to putting in "1000" directly). library(lattice) N <- 1000 xyplot(0~0, xlab.top=list(label=as.expression(bquote(bold("foo" ~ .(N) ~ "bar"))), font=2, cex=1.2)) ## => "font=2" is ignored (of course) Cheers, Marius

Alignment and Labeling of a color key in a xyplot?
Happy New Year to all R users! I have two short questions concerning a xyplot with a color key: 1) How do I properly place (align) the color key beside the xyplot? As you can see from the code listed below, the placement of the color key is not correct. I would like the upper and lower end point of the color key to be perfectly aligned with the upper and lower line of the xyplot. Adjusting

plotmath: paste string and expression [from a vector of expressions]
