xyplot main title question
When I use the xyplot function (lattice library) the titles are too long (i.e. part of the title are cut off). This fixes if I maximize the plot, but I would like the user of the program to not have to manually maximize the plotting window. I have tried to shrink the main title by using the "par(cex.main=.7)" before the xyplot function, but it seems any prior par options are ignored by

IF/Else
Hi,
I am trying to write a for loop with if else statements to calculate
biomass density estimates for different types of sampling gear.
My code is:
bmd=for (i in 1:length(Gear)){
if (Gear==20) {bioden=Biomass/141}
else {if (Gear==23) {bioden=Biomass/68}}
else {if (Gear==160) {bioden=Biomass/4120}}
else {if (Gear==170) {bioden=Biomass/2210}}
else {if (Gear==300)

HELP: BRUGS/WinBUGS/RBUGS Response is a combination of random variables
Hi,
Is there anyone know if BUGS language allows the combination of variables as response
such as
Y[i] <- a*X1[i]+b*X2[i]
Y[i] ~ dnorm(c,d)
It seems doesn't work in my model. The problem is between two ######.

Samba ADS-member-server: FQDNs in /etc/hosts
(new thread, same migration project)
I see GPOs applied, but network drives sometimes mapped, sometimes not.
Found something around hardened UNC paths, applied some GPO, dunno if
that is necessary or helps (I still have to check where to apply that
GPO, computer or user ...).
While debugging that I find in log.smbd on the member server:

here's the thing that tips the scale
ok, i waited for 2 weeks, and still no votes -- none! --
on whether my posts are sufficiently on-topic, or not...
and that basically confirms what i suspected all along,
which is that no one really cares one way or the other.
even the guys who put up the bitchy posts are probably

Calculating NOEL using R and logistic regression - Toxicology
Hello, I used the glm function in R to fit a dose-response relationship and
then have been using dose.p to calculate the LC50, however I would like to
calculate the NOEL (no observed effect level), ie the lowest dose above
which responses start occurring. Does anyone know how to do this?

Network lockups with win98 and samba 3
Hi all,
This is a new install on a network comprised of win98 and xp machines. I'm a
relative newbie to samba and getting some errors and problems. I would much
appreciate some advice on my setup.
The setup is samba-3.0.23,1 running on FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE as a windows
server replacement and with clients mostly running dos POS software on win98
machines and other dos and windows software on

openGL problem ?
I started SolidWorks (3D CAD program) with wine.
As soon as I go from 2D sketch to 3D solid the
screen is becoming black. One can see some
lines as it is rotated. The same is for wireframe
and rendered solids. 2D works very good. What
can be the reason ? (SW is openGL based)
Any help is welcome

Samba crashes and domain problems
Hi,
I have inherited a Samba PDC running on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.1
(the Samba version is 3.0.24-2.23-1296-SUSE-CODE10).
The server has been giving problems for a few weeks including the following
symptoms:
1. Users accessing a share are experiencing intermittent problems writing to
the share (Excel tells them the file they are trying to write is read-only).
2. when I try to add a

Sharing virtualizing physical Server 2008R2 experience on CentOS 7
Not as smooth an experience as I had assumed it would be after a test
run with a clean install worked perfectly. So figured I would share
the experience in case anybody else runs into similar situation since
not all information are consolidated in a single place.
Physical machine in question is a 4yr W2008R2 server (non-raided!)
running custom app from defunct developer which is why I am

Crossed random effects in lme
Dear all,
I am trying to fit a model with crossed random effects using lme. In this
experiment, I have been measuring oxygen consumption (mlmin) in bird
nestlings, originating from three different treatments (treat), in a
respirometer with 7 different channels (ch). I have also measured body mass
(mass) for these birds.

[NU-BQ+CentOS] Special Chars not showing up in browsers

I am in the process of moving several large sites to a Tyan+BQ+CentOS box

showing up in the browser properly but do show up in the source "view
source" properly. -- very strange.
Example:
on the web page --> Heizungsbau M?ller
in the source --> Heizungsbau M?ller
