[R] R compile on AIX 5.2
Professor Ripley,
Following your advice, I am now using an updated version of gcc
(4.0.2 to be exact) as well as a true fortran compiler (XL Fortran
Compiler v10.1.0.0 from IBM). I am still experiencing difficulty in
running "make" after a successful "configure". Any additional insight
you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Output of make is as
follows:

gcc 3.4.0 on Linux i686 fails to run R for me
I've just installed gcc-3.4.0 on RH8.0 (on a dual athlon MP, if it
matters) and rebuilt R. I find interSpline (in example(autoload)) is
failing to complete. It seems to be looping in dlamc1 in dlapack0.f.
This happened both with ATLAS and the BLAS built in to R.
I will dig a little deeper, but it might be helpful to have a warning on
record.

R-beta 2004-04-07 build failed on AIX
I thought I'd give this another shot before the official release. I tried
building R-beta_2004-04-07 on the AIX system that I have access to, and it
seemed to failed at lazy-loading survival. I'd very much appreciate any
pointer on what to try or look for next.
1. I set OBJECT_MODE to 64 for building 64-bit binary.
2. I edited config.site with the following:
CC="xlc_r"

Comments on the R-2.0.0 release (PR#7351)
Builds of the R-2.0.0 release have been considerably more successful
at my site than previous releases. I now have it installed on these
platforms:

Interface for package supplied random number generator
Hi,
As you probably know, there is a problem with the interface for adding uniform
random number generators in R (see by article in R News 5/2, November 2005).
There exists a mechanism called "user-supplied" that allows users of R
to run their own generator in R. However, there is no such mechanism for
package writers. Those who want to add their own generators abuse

Problems Building R on AIX 5.2.0.0 (Update)
Hi,
My previous message is appended: I'm still struggling with building on AIX. I
updated my config.site to follow the suggestions from R-admin:
MAIN_LDFLAGS=-Wl,brtl
SHLIB_LDFLAGS=-Wl,-G
This led to an error during configure:
checking whether mixed C/Fortran code can be run... configure: WARNING: cannot
run mixed C/Fortan code

R-1.8.0 + IBM VisualAge/C for AIX compiler
A while ago I compiled R 1.7.0 for AIX (with the above compiler - I'll
call it xlc) and I was surprised that it went quite smoothly.
Unfortunately with R 1.8.0 it's not as easy, but I succeeded at least
partially. Static R works fine (after some tweaking), but
--enable-R-shlib fails resp. produces a buggy R. Following are the
problems I encountered (in a warning-to-fatal-error

Compiling on IBM AIX. The package 'cluster' causes trouble...
Hi (and Merry Christmas),
I am trying to compile R on an AIX IBM machine using
the native C and FORTRAN compilers... and everything
goes smoothly (congratulations for the configure and
make files, this is very nice)... until the pacakge

Any hint ?

Problems Building Ron AIX 5.2.0.0 (Solved)
Happily I got this to work, largely by trial-and-error. In hopes that this will
help somebody else, my config.site ended up being:
OBJECT_MODE=64
R_PAPERSIZE=letter
CC=/usr/local/bin/gcc
MAIN_LDFLAGS=-Wl,-brtl
SHLIB_LDFLAGS=-Wl,-G
Which is virtually identical to that recommended in R-admin: one of my problems
was using "-W1,brtl" rather than "-W1,-brtl". This was R 2.0.1

Almost succesfull build on AIX
Hi,
Kurt Hornik and myself have an almost successful build of R on AIX
including dynamic loading of libraries ... which fails make check :-(
Anyway, as we have no AIX experience at all, maybe somebody else knows
what's going on.
Here's the problem:

problems compiling R on AIX5.1
Hello,
I'm trying to compile R (versions 1.6.0, 1.6.1, 1.6.2 and 1.7.0) on
our IBM Power3 Machine for an external user.
I always used to configure with
./configure --prefix=/scratch_tmp/harald/instala
I've never achieved to compile 1.7.0 because it seems that a file
called R.exp is missing (or maybe it's not well referenced on the
makefile).
Output of make:

Installation of R-3.0.2 failed Fortran error
Dear all,
I have a big problem to compile R-3.0.2 on our SUSE SLES 11 Server.
Make breaks up with fortran errors and so the installation isn't
successful
This is a part from the make run output.:

-ffloat-store -c dlamch.f -o dlamch.o

Rtools28 - undefined references with gfortran
I recently upgraded to Rtools28 to build a package under
Windows. I see that g77 is no longer in Rtools, but it
does have gfortran, and it uses version:
GNU Fortran (GCC) 4.2.1-sjlj (mingw32-2)
I am compiling some old fortran code as part of a larger
project. When I do that, I get undefined references:
gcc.exe: s_cmp.o: No such file or directory
gcc.exe: s_copy.o: No such file or directory

64bit build on IBM
I am trying to build R with 64bit support so I can access more than
2GB of memory on an IBM running AIX. (IBM NightHawk II RS/6000 node with 16
64-bit, 375-MHz POWER3 CPUs and 32 GB of memory, if you want specifics)
The 32bit install required little tweaking, but the 64 bit is sufficiently
complicated that I thought I would report my findings here and ask for
help with the latest (and hopefully
