Problems in package management after Linux system upgrade
I upgraded from Fedora Core 4 to Fedora Core 5 and I find a lot of
previously installed packages won't run because shared libraries or
other system things have changed "out from under" the installed R
libraries. I do not know for sure if the R version now from
Fedora-Extras (2.2.1) is exactly the same one I was using in FC4.
I see problems in many packages. Example, Hmisc:

controlling where *.Rout gets printed. Possible?
OK, my journey to make lab machines automagically install & update all
desirable R packages is nearing an end! The only question I have now is
this: How can I control where the system prints the *.Rout file that is
created automatically when the R batch program runs. In "man R" I don't
find any information about it. When the cron job runs "R_installAll.sh"

R package: pbatR
Dear All,
Does anybody have experience with R package pbatR
(http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/pbatR/index.html)? I am trying to
use it to analyze the family-based case-control data, but the package
totally doesn?t work on my computer. I contacted the authors of the package,
but I haven?t heard anything from them.
Following the package manual, I tried the simple example as below:

trouble with installing pbatR
Hello folks,
I am having a problem installing pbatR package. (My R version is 2.8.1.)
As I execute a command
> install.packages(lib='/usr/local/apps/R-2.8.1/lib64/R/library', "pbatR")
it detects lack of rootSolve package and attempts to install it. But
cannot seem to compile it, and the rest is aborted.
Any hint as to what I can do?
Thank you in advance for your

[Re: tcltk loading in R-2.2.1 from src]
Hi,
I believe configure was not finding tk.h, because tk-devel rpm was not
available on the given host. Thanks Erik and Peter for the suggestions
on checking tk.h and stdout of ./configure.
Just one further question for Peter>
"Well, the package is there, as a stub to tell you that it doesn't
work...."
So then how can you confirm from the library() output (or elsewhere) if

[R-SIG-Mac] Starting tcltk without Tk
It turns out that the behavior of starting just Tcl was actually a
bug. Apparently the intention was to attempt to start Tk regardless of
the DISPLAY variable, because some TclTk implementation such as Aqua
Tcl/Tk don't require DISPLAY and thus would not be loaded. Due to a
bug (HAVE_AQUA was not included in Rconfig.h before R 2.7.0), though,
this was not the case. I'll leave it

R-2.0.0 and tcltk package
there does not seem to be a package "tcltk" on CRAN for 2.0.0.
I have successfully installed the same package for 1.9.1.
In essence I require the package for a GUI interface to setwd.
All work fine with 1.9.1.
This is on a Linux Debian unstable kernel 2.4.20
The build version of R 2.0.0 (issuing version whithin R) has the following

Where is the tcltk package?
Perhaps I'm being even thicker than usual, but I can't find
the tcltk package on CRAN. There is a tcltk2 package, which says
that it is a collection of supplements to tcltk, but I cannot
see a just-plain tcltk anywhere.
If I try to install tcltk2 (from the Linux command line, or using
install.packages() in R) it complains that it needs tcltk.
If I try to install tcltk using

While installing R I run configure with

configure did not returned any errors. Hence, I assume that the the tcl/tk
libraries have been found.
