Specification of factorial random-effects model
I want to specify two factors and their interaction as random effects using the function lme(). This works okay when I specify these terms using the function Error() within the function aov(), but I can't get the same model fitted using lme(). The code below illustrates the problem. a <- factor(rep(c(1:3), each = 27)) b <- factor(rep(rep(c(1:3), each = 9), times = 3)) c <-

Labelling and formatting of graphics
In the output of the code below, I want to do the following: - get hats over some of the betas - get the polygons stippled, not coloured grey - remove the tick marks at the ends of the axes. If I put tick = false, the whole axis disappears. betahat <- c(0.04*0:150) betahatdens <- dnorm(betahat, 3, 1) plot(betahat, betahatdens, xlim = c(-0.2, 6.2),

Controlling the length of line with abline(lm())
Hi I just realized that when I use linear regression to draw a line through my data points with something like the following: abline(lm(y ~ x)) the length of the line is infinite, i.e., the line goes beyond the smallest and the largest data values. This seems not very right to me (not to mention it looks unaesthetic). I do not mean to imply that the straight-line behavior of my system is

problem with anova() and syntax in lmer
Dear R user I have 2 problems with lmer. The statistical consultance service of my university has recomended to me to expose those problems here. Sorry for this quite long message. Your help will be greatly appreciated... Gilles San Martin 1) anova() I fit a first model : model1 <- lmer(eclw~1 + density + landsc + temp + landsc:temp + (1|region) + (1|region:pop) + (1|region:pop:family),

Using files as connections
I have been trying to read a random sample of lines from a file into a data frame using readLines(). The help indicates that readLines() will start from the current line if the connection is open, but presented with a closed connection it will open it, start from the beginning, and close it when finished. In the code that follows I tried to open the file before reading but apparently without

Legality Issue & Relaying
Hi All, I'm planning to get a stream running in the next month or two, and will be using ices and icecast. Legality: Further to the last couple of posts regarding legality issue. I notice that the PRC do their licence cost on a percentage of your revenue, seeing as I plan to host no adverts or indeed any commercial aspect I hope to get a licence without actually paying anything. (I've
