online classes or online eduction in statistics? esp. time series analysis and cointegration?
Hi all,
I am looking for low cost online education in statistics. I am thinking of
taking online classes on time series analysis and cointegration, etc.
Of course, if there are free video lectures, that would be great. However I
couldn't find any free video lectures at upper-undergraduate and graduate
level which formally going through the whole timeseries education... That's

remove_index appends suffix "_index" to the given name!
Hi all
This creates an index with the name position_and_produkt_id_uniq:
add_index :bilder, [:produkt_id, :position], :unique => true, :name =>
:position_and_produkt_id_uniq
This should remove the same one:
remove_index :bilder, :position_and_produkt_id_uniq
Sadly I get the following error:
Mysql::Error: Can''t DROP ''bilder_position_and_produkt_id_uniq_index'';

recycle: ... returned No such file or directory
Hi,
recently I see lots of logs like this. I figured, that many have umlaute
in their name - but not all. My local FS displays the umlaute correctly
- but it is not displayed correctly in the logfiles.
Also, when I browse through shares via Windows or MacOSx all files with
umlaute seem to be displayed correctly.

Moving fileserver
I'm having a problem here I'm not sure how to solve, so I
hope someone else have done the same (and succeeded :)
I have an old smb server ('tux') which is ancient (both
in software and hardware) and can't handle the load.
This machine is running version 2.2.3a-14.1 (Debian
GNU/Linux woody) with 'character set = ISO8859-1'.
The new smb server ('bella') runs

--partial does not "unhide" the files
Hi,
I used --partial to transfer files from my local computer (rsync 3.1.2,
Debian) to a remote computer (rsync 3.1.1 WD MyPassport Storage device)
The files get transferred, but after successful transfer, the files
are not renamed from .<tmpfile> to <file>.
Where to go next?
Here is the verbose output after transferring an empty file

Hi
I'm using Samba version 4.1.7 on the server side. On the Client side is

- Windows 7
- Mac OSx (Mavericks)
- CentOS (XenServer)
all of them get sporadic input output errors. E.g: on a Linux I would get a
mount error(5): Input/output error
after the first try. And as funny as it sounds, but the second try is a

building recommended packages on Windows
Hi,
I am building 2.1.0 (re-release version, if that matters) on a Windows XP
machine. Following the instructions 3.1 "Building from source" in
R-admin.html, I managed to get up to 3.1.6. But when I try to build the
recommended packages, I get

Slow browsing windows shares from linux/samba
Hello all
I have been searching around the internet and even used the searchable
samaba mailing list archive. It seems I have a rare case of where my problem
is reversed to the common slow samba problem.
My problem is this:
I have a network of 3 PCs, one Linux 2 Windows XP. They are connected via a
hardware router (switched) on the 190.190.1.0 network. On the linuxbox I
have a collection of

converting character strings to numbers
I have a comma delimited text file in which many columns of numbers are
also quoted and have commas as well as decimals. I was surprised to find
read.csv() didn't import this seamlessly, even after messing around with
the colClasses argument. I did find a solution to convert the character
strings after reading them in, but wonder if there isn't a better one I
overlooked.

will there be theora_decode_RGBout() ?
hi folks!
i would like to know whether there will be some function to decode to some plain 24 bit RGB buffer in the future.
i think this feature is sometimes important, especially when using different surface layers, or when modifying
the buffer in realtime.
if this feature will definitely not be, could someone tell me how i can convert to some RGB buffer in realtime?

rsynced files "collecting" blocks?
Hello!
We are synching some server data (websites, logfiles, ...) with rsync via
ssh and are detecting a weird problem:
Certain files and directories, apparently those who are regulary rsynced over
the WAN, tend to use far too many blocks, e.g.:
stat from file on server:
File: `bilder.html'
Size: 2009 Blocks: 288 IO Block: 4096 regular file

ctree and survival problem
Dear all,
I was intrigued by the ctree command and wanted to check it out. I first ran the demo with example(ctree) and did get the survival graphs in the end. Upon doing this with my own data and yielding a "Invalid operation on a survival time" I tried to rerun example(ctree) and now I also get "Invalid operation on a survival time" after the example runs plot(GBSG2ct)...
