Constrained optimization
Greetings, R-Wizards:
I'm trying to find an extremum subject to a nonlinear constraint. (Yes, I
have perused the archives but have found nothing positive.) The details of
the problem are these:
In a paper published some years ago in Technometrics, ("Confidence bands for
cumulative distribution functions of continuous random variables"

Quelplot
Hi all,
Does anyone have an R implementation of the queplot (K.?M. Goldberg
and B.?Iglewicz. Bivariate extensions of the boxplot. Technometrics,
34(3):pp. 307?320, 1992)? I'm struggling with the estimation of the
asymmetry parameters.

Tukey's one degree of freedom for nonadditivity?
Is there code available to decompose interactions involving at least
one nominal factor with more than 2 levels as described, e.g., by Tukey
or by Mandel (1971, Technometrics, 13: 1-18)?
Tukey's model:
E(y[i,j]) = mu0 + a[i] + b[j] + c*a[i]*b[j],
estimating a, b, and c so sum(a) = sum(b)= 0. Mandel essentially
describes a singular value decomposition of the interaction.
Thanks,

S+DOX eqivalent in R?
Dear List,
I am looking for a function `Pseudo standard error' (PSE), which is
available in S+ DOX (design of experiemnt) module - Is there a similar
function available in R?
Reference for PSE function is in the paper:
'Quick and easy analysis of unreplicated factorials' by Russell V. Lenth,
Technometrics, 1989, 31, 4, 469-473.
Thanks.

Zero-inflated neg.bin. model and pscl package
Dear list,
I'm currently trying to develop a model to assess clam yield potential in a
lagoon. I'm using the zeroinfl function of the pscl package to fit a
Zero-inflated negative binomial model, given the high occurrence of zero
counts.
I don't understand from the sentence in the pscl guide "Zero-inflated count
models are a type of two-component mixture model, with a component

read in large data file (tsv) with inline filter?
I have a very large tab-delimited file, too big to store in memory via
readLines() or read.delim(). Turns out I only need a few hundred of those
lines to be read in. If it were not so large, I could read the entire file
in and "grep" the lines I need. For such a large file; many calls to
read.delim() with incrementing "skip" and "nrows" parameters, followed by
grep()

Welch test for equality of variance
Hello
Using R 2.2.1 on a Windows machine.
Has anyone programmed the Welch test for equality of variances?
I tried RSiteSearch, but this gave references to t test and
oneway.test, which are not quite what I need.....I need the Welch test
itself, for use in a meta-analysis (to determine if variances are
equal).
TIA

NFS new security requirements?
Hi
I've suddenly lost access to some permanent cross-server shares.
I think this was following the Nov 5 new kernel, rather than the Centos version upgrade.
I don't see any difference to man mount.nfs
I have:-
[root at hs6 ~]# mount hs8:/data /sysback/hs8-data -v
mount: no type was given - I'll assume nfs because of the colon
mount: trying 172.26.0.8 prog 100003 vers 3 prot tcp port

Justifying R to anti open-source management

I apologise for this question as it really must be a FAQ. Unfortunately,
I can't find the answer and I'm tired of looking at endless google results
A colleague of mine works for a state government department that has a
policy against open source software or software tainted by open
source. Other government departments in the same state use R but this

You can connect them either as "friends" or as "users/peers". I
generally recommend the user/peer method for connecting two servers
since it clearly delineates which codecs and contexts are allowed.
Your sip.conf files will look

Hi there,
I have 2 samba servers on with different users logged on...
I Have 1 ldap with all users account, each samba's server having

And last, on each samba's server a
