getent doesn't list my users when using idmap_adex
Hi, I'm trying to integrate an existing linux environment with a Windows AD environment. All my users are already in AD with valid rfc2307 attributes defined so I need a way to authenticate my users using username, uid, gid, shell and homedirectory from AD. I've been using Kerberos+LDAPs before but that requires a dummy AD user hardcoded with username and password in /etc/ldap.conf

rsync performance
We're using rsync 2.6.3 to sync two DELL PowerEdge servers with both Redhat-EL4 and otherwise nearly identical hardware (2.8/3GHz, 1GB RAM each). The source machine has a SCSI-RAID1, the destination a SATA-RAID1 disk attached. There are 5 filesystems which are rsynced via ssh. On the smaller filesystems with ~200.000 files/7GB, rsync takes 1-3 minutes: lion:/atg/ ========= Tue Aug 22

if file exists
Is there a condition test to see if a file exists on the puppetmaster? I have about 15 different license files that are loaded on thirteen servers. Not every license goes on every server. I''d like to serve the files only if they exist on the puppet master server. I''m thinking of doing it like this: define install_license($host) {

HAML: strip white space from output?
Hi all Is there an option for HAML that strips all unnecessary white space, line breaks etc. from the output to save some bandwidth? For SASS I found such configuration, but not for HAML... Thanks for info. Black and white graphics and transparent strip panels with lattice under Sweave
What is the most elegant way to specify that strip panels are to have transparent backgrounds and graphs are to be in black and white when lattice is being used with Sweave? I would prefer a global option that stays in effect for multiple plots. If this is best done with a theme, does anyone have a lattice theme like col.whitebg but that is for black and white? I'm using the following

(semi-) rugged laptop running CentOS 5?
We're looking for a laptop to run in a 10,000', cold, occasionally wet environment, and it needs to run CentOS 5. Perhaps something like the Dell Latitude E6400 ATG? There's a reference to a minor trackball bug for the 6400 under CentOS 5 (http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=4192) but otherwise it sounds like the x86_64 version should run on it. Ideally the system would use a SSD too.

I''ve been reading the Docs on this, and its not very clear. I want to have a parameterized class that takes arrays and objects as parameters. I''m using puppet 2.6.16. I define a hostclass like this: hostclass :test, :arguments => { :param1 => "blah" } do end I call from Puppet DSL: class {"test": } I get this as an error: err: Could not

strip white in character strings
Dear all, I have several datasets and I want to generate pdf plots from them. I also want to generate automatically the names of the files. They are country-specific and the element mycurrentdata[1,1] contains this information. So what I do is something like this: pdf(file=paste(mycurrentdata[1,1], ".pdf", sep=""), width=...etc) The only problem I have is that some of the
