axis scaling problem
On the attached figure, I had to use ylim (0,3) to have enough space for the labels to be plotted. However, the values on the y-axis are never bigger than 1, so the axis labeling does not make much sense. Can I only get y-axis tick marks at 0 and 1 but still have the additional plotting space for the labels? Thanks Andreas -- -------------------------- Andreas Zankl, MD Division of

mac ghostscript help
Hello R community, I am hoping to use a new package that I just installed called "grImport" to import ps images into R for further manipulation using either base graphics or grid. I downloaded the most recent version of Ghostscript from http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ that I could find (v.8.56) for Mac OSX. However, I am apparently quite ignorant about how the required

Adding gs line to Renviron file on Mac
First the technical details: I'm running Mac OS 10.4.5, R 2.2.0, and just downloaded Ghostscript 8.50 to my Applications folder. My problem is this: after adding ## Ghostscript R_GSCMD=${RGSCMD='/usr/bin/gs'} to my Renviron file, as suggested in several posts on this problem contained in the archives, I still get Error in bitmap("acaldi.bmp", res = 100) : sorry,

R CMD check: Sys.getenv("R_GSCMD") cannot contain full pathname (contrary to docs)
Hi, in help("R_GSCMD") it says "R_GSCMD: Optional. The path to Ghostscript, used by dev2bitmap, bitmap and embedFonts. Consulted when those functions are invoked.". However, if 'R_GSCMD' contains a full pathname to the Ghostscript executable (as above "path" indicates), e.g. > Sys.getenv("R_GSCMD") [1] "C:\\Program

Can I set the proxy server and authentification from within R?
Hi, I am using Tinn-R and somehow I cannot point it to start a R shortcut with http_proxy settings including authentification. It always shows the .exe. Is there any way to set the proxy from within R or any other ideas how to do it? I am using R 2.4 for Windows. Thanks a million, Werner

Too long pathname in bitmap() crashes R on WinXP
Hi, using too long pathnames for bitmap() crash R on WinXP. I've verified that this is the case with R version 2.4.1 Patched (2007-03-25 r40958) and R version 2.5.0 alpha (2007-03-30 r40957). I cannot reproduce it on Linux. REPRODUCIBLE EXAMPLE: % Rterm --vanilla # Tell R where Ghostscript is gsexe <- "C:/gs/gs8.54/bin/gswin32c.exe"; gsexe <- "C:/Program

embedFonts() does not embed fonts?
Dear helpers, I'm trying out the embedFonts() to embed fonts into my pdf files. However, when I inspect the new pdf with a program designed to look for embedded fonts, I see that the fonts have in fact not been embedded. Below are my calls. Environment variables under Windows
Greetings, I have a question pertaining to the concept of "environment variables" that is mentioned in the R documentation for "Startup" and also in the discussion of the Windows configuration of R in the recent book "An Introduction to R" authored by Venables, Smith, and the R Development Core Team (referred to as VS in this message). The Startup documentation and

Invalid font in bitmap()
Dear all, A few weeks ago I asked about X11() availability using CGI-perl. The general advice was to use bitmap which requires ghostscript (Xvnc and Xvbf were the other alternatives). My system administrator got around to installing Aladin Ghostscript 6.0 and the setting the R_GSCMD environment variable. Other system specification is given below. But now I have a new problem that says that font

dev2bitmap error, 'gs' cannot be found
Dear List, I am using the bioconductor package Category to do some gene enrichment analysis, and usually save my KEGGmnplot's using a dev2bitmap command. This has worked just fine, until suddenly earlier today I got this error-message: > dev2bitmap("04610_080721.jpg",type="jpeg", height = 10, width = 10, res = 200) Error in dev2bitmap("04610_CSF080721.jpg",

Error using PostScriptTrace()
I couldn't run PostScriptTrace() from the package "grImport" without an error. At first the postscript program couldn't be found. however the problem persisted after the full path the postscript program was indicated. I read earlier post on the subject in vain. See the codes and output below. The file "Senegal_location_map.ps" was originally a "svg" file from:

R 1.6 Gui for Windows
I upgraded to R Gui 1.6 this morning and I can't seem to get it to accept my new startup directory. R 1.51 will accept "F:\_ben\bls\gen1\results\bls\analysis" as the start in directory for the R Gui shortcut, but R 1.6 will not. R 1.6 will accept "F:\_ben\bls\gen1\results\bls". It seems to have trouble when I add "\analysis." R still loads fine but I get the

jpeg() saving blank files?
Hi, I am having trouble saving graphics from R. jpeg() saves a file with the correct name to the correct directory, but it consists of a blank (white) jpeg with the specified dimensions--the image itself is not being saved. My code is jpeg(filename="myfile.jpg", height = 2.5, width = 8, units = "in", res = 72, pointsize = 12, quality = 100, bg = "white",

Documentation for .Renviron (PR#2175)
Hi everyone, Two minor points about ?.Renviron. 1) If R_ENVIRON is not set then R defaults to `${R_HOME}/etc/Renviron', not `${R_HOME}/etc/Renviron.site' as stated. 2) In the details, there is a missing "way" in "`value' is processed in a similar to a Unix shell." Cheers, Jonathan. --please do not edit the information below-- Version: platform =

Coding C++ in R. What is faster : Using bosst external libraries or R.h header file?
Hi everyone, I have built an R package and for the sake of speed I have decided to rewrite some part of the code in C++. In my original R code I use the pnorm, qnorm, rnorm, pgamma, dgamma, rgamma, rbeta and runif function. First I was thinking in going with the boost libraries, but I noticed the functions described above are available within the R.h header file (or is it Rmath.h?). So my

Debian Testing: ~/.Renviron seems to not being read (R_LIBS not set)
Hi, I have Debian Testing running on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2015, 3rd gen.). I would like to have a package library independent of the installed R version. Under Ubuntu, I used to have the following line in ~/.Renviron: R_LIBS=/usr/local/R/library:/usr/lib/R/site-library This worked fine and /usr/local/R/library showed up in .libPaths(). However, under Debian (with the same ~/.Renviron),

R's startup : .Rprofile & .Renviron -- info and RFC
[RFC = Request for Comments] { Yes, the documentation for .Renviron is really not there (but the FAQ...); the rest is in ?Startup } In R's Startup (on Unix only??) {unless --no-environ is specified} ~/.Renviron (if there) is read as an 'sh' script before R is called, then R looks ((for the site-wide Rprofile and then)) for .Rprofile in the current directory and then for

Poll: Does R_PAPERSIZE in /etc/R/Renviron matter?
A heuristic runs via the r-base-core package postinst. It is intended to use the result from Debian's paperconf(1) toool, and to update the R environment variable R_PAPERSIZE accordingly. This apparently broke some time ago when R changed to a dual variable setup, and my regexp didn't notice. Does anybody use this, or is it ok if I simply disable this in Debian? In that case we simply

change default path for installing r-cran packages by sudo apt r-cran...?
dear dirk, i am following up on our thread on r-help-mailinglist. you advised me to bring it over here. when installing packages from within R, they usually go to a directory defined in R_LIBS_USER, which i have it set in .Renviron. when installing packages via sudo apt install r-cran-.., they go to /usr/lib/R/site-library. is there a possibility to have packages installed to the R_LIBS-USER
