Question about contour3d and writeWebGL: rgl and misc3d package
I saw that in rgl:::writeWebGL that "Polygons will only be rendered as
filled; there is no support in WebGL for wireframe or point rendering.". I
found that you can easily use contour3d to make reproducible contour web
figures, such as (taken from contour3d help)

tkfilefind in tcltk on Windows2000
Hi,
The tkfilefind demo in the tcltk package doesn't seem to work for me in
Windows2000.
The demo script uses tkfilefind(".") which doesn't display the parent
directory so you can't browse around the whole drive.
Using tkfilefind() (which uses the default path getwd()) doesn't seem to
work for me at all.
I also tried tkfilefind("/") which worked fine but

Does the RPM for RH9 know about TCL/Tk
Sorry for the probable repeat post but I can only search the list up to
2002 (is there a better way?). I am using the RH9 RPM from CRAN but
packages like AnalyzeFMRI say that tcltk is not found. Do I need to do
more to get Tk GUIs working on RH9 or does the RPM not have tcltk support
built in (should I compile from source). Thanks in advance.
Take care.

Just a quick message to say that,

when choosing (with or without the tcltk window) "Bern 1 (swiss)" as
CRAN mirror to install
a package (function install.packages) for R-2.5.0, the list of

Ways to catch segfaults before they happen
Those of you who monitor the daily package checks will know that some
packages generate ERROR reports spasmodically. This is normally due to
segfaults, and in almost all cases has been traced (eventually) to memory
access errors using the tool valgrind (http://valgrind.kde.org).
Current examples include RCurl, RandomFields, geoR, kza and pcurve.
This week I have run all the examples in all

signal extraction
Hi !
is there a package in R dedicated to the signal analysis ? I'm searching
for statistical methods for the signal extraction from background in a
digital image. Does R have a package to perform this kind of analysis ?
Thanks a lot,
Paola.

Is it possible to read jpeg files into R?
Hi Helpers,
Does anyone know how to read jpeg, bmp or png files into R?
I have some photos of brain scans and I want to quantify
some aspects of their size. I might be able to do this
with the 'locator' function, if I could figure out how
to read the files in and make them into an image that
I can display on the R Windows device. I have experimented
with readBin, using a simple

R for Computational Neuroscience?
Hi all,
I've noticed that many computational neuroscience research groups use
MATLAB. While it's possible that MATLAB may have some features
unavailable in R, I suspect that this may instead simply be a case of
costly tradition, where researchers were taught MATLAB as students and
pay for it as researchers because it's all they know.
I'd like to attempt to break the cycle by

HTB does not respect the prio parameter
Hi all,
I''m experimenting with HTB and the prio parameter and it does not give me results I
expect. I''ve created 4 HTB classes:

1:20 TCP traffic on dst port 10001 (prio 1)
1:30 TCP traffic on dst port 10000 (prio 2)
1:40 Default (prio 3)
ceil and rate parameters are the same for all 4 classes (rate is

Hi All
Please see the Rprofile file which i have modified as follows and after
that when I start R then I see that R says to me "TRUE" for all the

any of the menu "Packages" is not working.

Very slow directory listing and high CPU usage on replicated volume
Hi all,
I am having problems with painfully slow directory listings on a freshly
created replicated volume. The configuration is as follows: 2 nodes with
3 replicated drives each. The total volume capacity is 5.6T. We would
like to expand the storage capacity much more, but first we need to figure
this problem out.
Soon after loading up about 100 MB of small files (about 300kb each), the

Traffic shaping problem
Hi all,
I tried last week to do traffic shaping on a production system,
object of the exercise was simply to throttle the outgoing traffic.
tc qdisc add dev eth4 root tbf rate 300mbit burst 300kb latency 50ms
But the server became rather instable, crashing repeatedly without
anything in the logs.
Can anybody spot glaring mistakes in the tc command above,
or tell me what I should have done

How to speed up Rsync transfers
Is there a way to speed up rsync transfers?
I tested the bandwidth with iperf (recommended to me in an earlier post &
worked well)its as advertised by my ISP's around 740KB/sec.
When I manually run my rsync script with the --progress switch the transfers
are around 100KB/sec.
I googled this and the only thing I found had to do with the TCP window
which I understand to be the limiting

Rsync download traffic
Hello,
I started monitoring lan traffic with RRDTool on a linux box the other day that runs rsync, and I've found what I would consider a strange traffic pattern. This linux box rsync about 2Gb of data to a local samba share that is connected to a Windows 2003 server. Based on the literal data stat, roughly 20% is changed nightly and uploaded. However, the strange thing is that the traffic
