barplot with multiple columns
I have a large dataset looking like this (as an example):
doy<-c(178,179,180,181,182,183,184,185,186,187,188)
s1<-c(0 , 0, 2.4 , 0 , 3.34 , 0 , 5.34 , 0 , 0 , 0 , 6.9)
s2<-c(0 , 9.72, 0, 10.56 , 2.67 , 0 , 6.45 ,0 , 0 , 9, 3.6)
dat<-cbind(doy,s1,s2)
dat
I need to make a barplot where the two time series s1 and s2 are plottet
beside each other for each doy. How can I do that?

POSIXct and chron issues with tz
Dear All-
I am trying to merge two data files - they have different date formats
and different times zones. I need to match up the date/time of the
datasets and then invoke a conditional statement, such as: if dataC$mph
is >= 12 then keep dataM$co23 for the corresponding time/date stamp.

Name assignment in for loop
Dear helpeRs-
I'm using a for loop to create a series of models.
I'm trying to assign a name to each model created,
using the loop index. The loop gets stuck at the name
of the model, giving the error "target of assignment
expands to non-language object". The linear model runs
without error; only the name is problematic.
Here is the current loop syntax. The use of dat

time zone problems
Folks,
I'm having trouble with how datetime objects with time zones are set
and plotted. This may be the result of my running R (2.4.0) on a
Windoze XP box. Perhaps not. Here are two example problems I need
advise on if you have time:
1) I collect data with dates (often as a fractional day of year) in
UTC. Using strptime to create date time objects appears to force the
data into

First value in a row
Hi.
This is likely a trivial problem but have not found a solution.
Imagine the following dataframe:
Lat Lon x1 x2 x3
01 10 NA NA .1
01 11 NA .2 .3
01 12 .4 .5 .6
I want to generate another column that consist of the first value in
each row from columns x1 to x3. That is
NewColumn
.1
.2
.4
Any input greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Camilo

multiple t-tests across similar variable names
Hi everyone-
I have a dataset with multiple "pre" and "post" variables I want to compare. The variables are named "apple_pre" or "pre_banana" with the corresponding post variables named "apple_post" or "post_banana". The variables are in no particular order.

2nd Y-axis text problem
Dear All,
I'm having problems getting text to appear on a second y axis....because
this can only be done within a plot statement and my attempts to add the
label as text didn't work because the "locator" refers to the plot
area....
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sion

Fishers exact test at < 2.2e-16
In an effort to select the most appropriate number of clusters in a
mixture analysis I am comparing the expected and actual membership of
individuals in various clusters using the Fisher?s exact test. I aim
for the model with the lowest possible p-value, but I frequently get
p-values below 2.2e-16 and therefore does not get exact p-values with
standard Fisher?s exact tests in R.
Does anybody know

I have 3 vectors with object name : dat1, dat2, dat3
Now I want to create a loop, like :

Columns and rows
Hi,
Could you please advice some easy way to do the following for a dataframe
(header=F) having unequal column- & row- length.
1. Combine/stack/join contents from -
a) multiple rows into one column.
b) multiple columns into one row.
2. Stack contents from multiple columns (or, rows) into one column (or,
row).
Thank you.
Cheers,
Santana

HI Elisa,
You could use ?cut()
vec1<-c(33,18,13,47,30,10,6,21,39,25,40,29,14,16,44,1,41,4,15,20,46,32,38,5,31,12,48,27,36,24,34,2,35,11,42,9,8,7,26,22,43,17,19,28,23,3,49,37,50,45)
label1<-unlist(lapply(mapply(c,lapply(seq(0,45,5),function(x) x),lapply(seq(5,50,5),function(x) x),SIMPLIFY=FALSE),function(i) paste(i[1],"<x<=",i[2],sep="")))

how to use 'which' inside of 'apply'?

I am trying to populate a column (doy) in a large dataset with the first

interpreting date-related error message
Hello, helpeRs,
I have a vector of numbers from 1-365 (days of the year) that I would
like to convert to a date. There are no NA's and no missing values.
I did not insert leading zero's for numbers less than 100.
Using the syntax:
dat$doy.1 <- as.numeric(format(dat$doy, "%j" ))
I get the following error message:

summing and combining rows
Hello,
I have a data set that needs to be combined so that rows are summed by a
group based on a certain variable. I'm pretty sure rowsum() or rowsums()
can do this but it's difficult for me to figure out how it will work for
my data based on the examples I've read.
My data are structured like this:
