multiple graphics in separate windows
hi, I am looking for a possibility to open several graphics in independent windows (is that the graphics device ?). up to now, i was only able to generate a graphic, then save it (e.g. as eps) and then generate a new plot that always overwrites the old graphic. I am aware of the fact that I can generate multiple plots in a single graphics window, but this is not what i am looking for ..

circular statistics in R?
Hi there, Has anybody heard of a circular statistics packages/function collection in R (or S-Plus)? (I mean circular statistics for periodic data,(e.g., pointing directions), like the ones described in Batschelet (1980). For example used to compute mean angular deviation and variance, perform comparisons of mean angles using e.g. a Watson-Williams test etc.) I didn't find anything so far,

unix environment variables under R
hi, i am working on a little R-project with a couple od other guys.we use CVS, but everyone keeps the R-source files in different locations in his home-directory. of course this causes trouble when sourcing R-files. i thought a UNIX environment variable could be the solution, but R doesn't seem to know about the environment variables. e.g. >> source("$PROJECT/xxx.R")

Finding the name ob an object
Hi, all! I want to give an object to a function and use the NAME of this object inside the function to build new objects based on this name. How do I get the name of an object if I don't pass a string containing the name but the object itself? To prevent that a vm is started on more than one hypervisor, I want to use a lockmanager with libvirt. I could only find sanlock as lockmanager, but AFSIK sanlock will not work in my setup as I don't have a shared filesystem. I have dlm running for clvm. Are there lockmanager

Directory-like data organisation w/ environments?
Dear r-users! I wonder if there is a way of designing a directory like structure for holding my data using environments? It would be nice if I could implement a kind of 'cd' command to change to a differend environment etc. Can anybody give me a hint? -cl -- Christoph Lange MPI fuer biologische Kybernetik |Phone: +49-7071-601-607| Postfach 2169, D-72012 Tuebingen |FAX:

[patch] rsync large file support on AIX and HPUX
Hi, HPUX and some AIX releases have a bug in their implementation of mkstemp(). They do not open the resulting file with O_LARGEFILE. Copying a >2GB file files fails therefore. IRIX, Linux seems to be o.k. There is an efix for AIX available but seems not to be deployed everywhere. Cheers Olaf *** rsync-2.6.2/syscall.c.ORG_SC Fri Aug 13 13:17:27 2004 --- rsync-2.6.2/syscall.c
