uso detach

variance components
Please forgive the cross posting. I sent this to Medstats and have not received any response. I am looking for a good written explanation of components of variance (a.k.a variance components), in particular as they are used in genetic analyses. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am interested in books, articles and on-line material. I intent to give the material to some of my students none of whom

How to create a chromosome location map by locus ID
Hi, I'm trying to make a chromosomal map in R by using the locus. I have a list of genes and their locus, and I want to visualise that so you can see if there are multiple genes on a specific place on a chromosome. A example of what I more or less want is below: http://www.nabble.com/file/p21474206/untitled.JPG untitled.JPG The genes and locus are here:

codamenu crash
Dear R users: I am a newby to R, under Windows XP. Sorry if my question is too obvious, but I have not found any answer in the archives. I was using the R-Coda package with R version 2.4.1 and everything was going OK. After upgrading to R v.2.5.0, I receive the following error message when I'm trying to run codamenu(): "Error in coda.options(default = TRUE) : cannot change value of

RV: no puedo cargar el paquete "agricolae"
Cada vez que intento cargar el paquete "agricolae" me da el siguiente mensaje: Error: package or namespace load failed for 'agricolae' in loadNamespace(i, c(lib.loc, .libPaths()), versionCheck = vI[[i]]): there is no package called 'spData' He intentado todo actualizar los paquetes, volverlos a instalar pero no hay forma. Si sabeis la solución ?? Un saludo. Juan

segfault with correlation structures in nlme
Hi out there, I am trying to fit a species accumulation curve (increase in number of species known vs. sampling effort) for multiple regions and several bootstrap samples. The bootstrap samples represent different arrangements of the actual sample sequence. I fitted a series of nlme-models and everything seems OK, but since the observations are correlated I tried to include some correlation

different random effects for each level of a factor in lme
I have an interesting lme - problem. The data is part of the Master Thesis of my friend, and she had some problems analysing this data, until one of her Jurors proposed to use linear mixed-effect models. I'm trying to help her since she has no experience with R. I'm very used to R but have very few experience with lme. The group calls of one species of parrot were recorded at many

Help with ddply to eliminate a for..loop
I created a small example to show something that I do a lot of. "scale" data by month and return a data.frame with the output. "id" represents repeated observations over "time" and I want to scale the "slope" variable. The "out" variable shows the output I want. My for..loop does the job but is probably very slow versus other methods. ddply

Data reconstruction following PCA using Eigen function
Hi all, As a molecular biologist by training, I'm fairly new to R (and statistics!), and was hoping for some advice. First of all, I'd like to apologise if my question is more methodological rather than relating to a specific R function. I've done my best to search both in the forum and elsewhere but can't seem to find an answer which works in practice. I am carrying out

changing default arguments of a function and return the modified function as a result
Dear R-users, I am trying to develop a function that takes another function as an argument, changes its default values and returns a list of things, among which the initial function with its default arguments changed. An example of what i will like to obtain below: ## initial function myfun <- function(x, a=19, b=21){ return(a * x + b) } ## this is the function i will like to create ##

nlme and spatially correlated errors
Dear R users, I am using lme and nlme to account for spatially correlated errors as random effects. My basic question is about being able to correct F, p, R2 and parameters of models that do not take into account the nature of such errors using gls, glm or nlm and replace them for new F, p, R2 and parameters using lme and nlme as random effects. I am studying distribution patterns of 50 tree
