R-2.1.0 search engine works with mozilla browser but not firefox
I'm running R-2.1.0 on a Linux box and found that the HTML search engine help would not work with Firefox 1.0.3 but would work with Mozilla 1.7.7. I have Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_02 installed. With Firefox, when I launch help.start() and click to the search engine, it brings up the first page with "Applet SearchEngine started" in the status bar, but clicking on one of the

Trouble with HTML search engine & Mozilla Firebird
I'm having trouble with the HTML-based search engine, and I'd be grateful for any advice. I am using Mozilla Firebird 0.7 on Debian 3.0 with R 1.8.0. (I've also had the trouble with Mozilla Firebird 0.6 on Debian 3.0. I also use Mozilla Firebird 0.6 on Windows XP, and I have no trouble with the HTML-based search engine.) When I type help.start() in R, it brings up the proper search

Can't get JRE to install so that FireFox sees it
Hot on the heels of the success of getting sound to work with FireFox, I am on to getting Java applets to run. When I go to a page with a Java applet, I get the little Rubik's cube- like icon that says I can click to download. So I do, but FireFox says it can't find it, so I have to install manually. I click on Manual install and I'm taken to a page that allows me to download the RPM

Bug#123084: r-base: R documentatio search engine unusable with Mozilla 6 (OK with netscape 4.7x) (PR#1202)
As there is nothing Debian-specific in this bug report (and the .deb of the JVW is not from Debian either), I am forwarding this to R-bugs. My recollection from recent discussions on the R mailing list is that currently /no/ browser other than Netscape supports the Java search engine -- is that correct or was there some Netscape derivative (galeon?) which does? Maybe the documentation should be

R search engine and Mozilla
Not really an R question but I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm having problems with the R help page "The R language" and Mozilla 1.3 with the Java 2 runtime environment 1.4.1_02 under Windows XP. The problems occur on the "Search Engine & Keywords" page. I can open two links, but after that links aren't recognized. The problem seems to be javascript

R search engine broken (PR#6653)
Full_Name: St?phane Gourichon Version: R 1.7.1 (2003-06-16). OS: GNU/Linux Submission from: (NULL) (132.227.205.226) The HTML help is great. But the search engine is broken. It used to work in Galeon 1.x, not Konqueror 3.0 . Now it doesn't work, neither on Mozilla 1.6 / Firebird 0.6 / Firefox 0.8 nor Konqueror 3.2 which are IMHO the latest versions of those advanced, standard-compliant

RH 8.0, Mozilla and help.start() - Deja Vu All Over Again....
Hi all, In the continuing process of dealing with the upgrades to Mozilla under RH 8.0 Linux (present stable release is 1.3) and as a result, the "breakage" of R's help.start() function, which is a java applet based search engine, I wanted to point out to folks some key points of information. If you are upgrading to Mozilla version 1.3 under RH 8.0 from an older version, even

Howto: Java Plugin for Firefox 3.0.1?
Can anyone here give me the magic decoder ring recipe for getting jre "plugged" into Firefox 3.0.1? The plugins directory is gone and the Firefox FAQ regarding this issue cryptically mentions that plugin support has been dropped. It then points one to a early adopter SUN jre1.6-10 page that has innumerable dependencies which my version of CentOS-5.2 does not meet. Firefox 3.0.0 had a

Fedora 10, R and yes...help.start()...deja vu all over again...
Hi all, I installed F10 Final today. This was a clean install, not an upgrade from F9. Kudos the the Fedora team as the level of maturity noted in the install process, including using encrypted partitions, keeps getting better with each release. I'd still like to see easier options in the GUI with respect to selecting entire groups of applications, rather than having to go through individual

Search Engine (PR#2813)
Full_Name: Anthony Westerling Version: 1.7.0 OS: Mac OS X 10.2.5 Submission from: (NULL) (64.203.9.4) R includes a very nice search engine web page which installs at /usr/local/lib/R/doc/html/search/SearchEngine.html. The search engine and keywords links do not work on my Mac G4s running OS X 10.2.5, and this appears to be independent of choice of browser. This appears to be a Mac-specific

Installing SJava
Apologies, I am a non-techie so am finding installing SJava (which I need for RMAGEML) very frustrating indeed. I am running rw2001 on WindowsXP with Java - jre1.5.0_02. Could somebody please explain to me step-by-step how to install it as I have tried all the help files. The website’s (HYPERLINK "http://www.omegahat.org/RSJava/"http://www.omegahat.org/RSJava/) instructions for

Seamonkey (Mozilla) web browser for CentOS 5.4?
Does the Seamonkey (Mozilla) web browser exist for CentOS 5.4? help.start( )
Dear R experts, I installed R-1.7.1 on Linux (Red Hat 9.0) starting from R-1.7.1.tgz without a problem. Then I fired up R and tried things and found that help.start( ) does not work. I downloaded Sun Java j2re1.4.2, installed that and re-installed R-1.7.1 from scratch. I tried help.start( ) again and the browser (Mozilla 1.2.1) crashed. I read about copying libjavaplugin_oji.so into

Firefox and Java on CentOS 4.1
I need to run a Java-enabled Firefox on my CentOS4.1-powered laptop and it *was* running fine. Then yesterday I up2date'd the box and Firefox went from 1.0.4 to 1.0.6. And I lost Java. I can't seem to re-install it, whether from the original (1.5.0 I think it was) or the latest downloads. This is crucially important as I need to access my Dell RAC. Can anyone advise how to get

Safe to use gstreamer repository for RH or Fedora?
I'd like to install "Gstreamer" so that I can get MP3 support in Rhythmbox. At least, I'm led to believe MP3 support comes with installing Gstreamer from Rhythmbox's FAQ. But when I get to the Gstreamer download page: http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/download/ ... it says: "Do not compile from source yourself unless you are certain you have to or want to" Okay,
