Applying a function to all combinations of factors
Is there a way to apply a function, say cor(), to each combination of some
number of variables, and this, without using loops?
For example, I have day, hour, var1 and var2. How could I compute
cor(var1,var2) for each day*hour combination and obtain a matrix with day,
hour and the cor value for each combination?
Thanks for your time,
Marc

pseudo-R2 or GOF for regression trees?
Hello,
Is there an accepted way to convey, for regression trees, something
akin to R-squared?
I'm developing regression trees for a continuous y variable and I'd
like to say how well they are doing. In particular, I'm analyzing the
results of a simulation model having highly non-linear behavior, and
asking what characteristics of the inputs are related to a particular

succession time series graph
Dear gracious R community,
I would like to produce charts of phytoplankton biomass changes
through time. Each species has a line, and the biomass varies in
mirror form along the line for each species along the X time axis.
Here is an example of what I'd like to do:

Any suggestions?

troubles reading a text file
Dear R experts,
For quite some time I have been trying to solve a mistery of reading a seemingly trouble-free text file. The data is temperature reconstruction arranged as a huge grid, preceded by seven "header lines" (which you see better if file is opened in Firefox or Chrome).
This is the data (gridded temperature reconstruction)

Centered variables and mixed-model
Martin,
You got some fine response already from other r-users. Indeed,
centering explanatory variables is quite common and it really
can have benefits in numerical accuracy.
However one might also use centering for response variable and
even standardization i.e. x - mean(x) / sd(x). This
might increase the robustness of multivariate analysis, where
variables have very different scales. For

censored counts and glmer/glmmADMB
dear R-users,
I have to model counts where all counts above some threshold
have been censored. In the same dataset I have too many zeroes for
a Poisson or even a negative binomial distribution to make
sense, so I would need a zero-inflated-censored negative binomial
family for use in glmer (or glmmADMB?). That seems not to exist.
my question is :
how could I add a custom-built family of

Hello,
Just look at the examples in ?persp.
There is a function called trans3d defined in it that will traduce your 3D
coordinates to 2D, and so you will be able to draw lines with lines function.

0.45<0.45 = TRUE (PR#10744)
Dear developer,
in my version of R (2.4.0) as weel as in a more recent version (2.6.0)
on different computers, we found this problem :
> a<-(58/40-1)
> a
[1] 0.45
> b<-(18/40)
> b

> a<b
[1] TRUE

Something seems wrong here.
but if we do

then everything is ok.

Dear users
I have a problem with the dr function: "dimension reduction".
I give you my example, and i'll be pleased to read your comments.
#let be X a matrix 50*100:

X<- matrix(rnorm(50*100,5,1),50,100);
#and let be Y a vector response:
Y<- sample(0:1,50,replace=T);

This is a standard header file. But gcc now hides it away (mine was

BTW - any corrections for my surf.chimie.uqam.ca/~kruus/vorbis/ stuff?
