panel.axis() & grid/lattice settings
Hello,
I wish to customize the tick marks and labels of axes in panels produced by
high-level lattice functions, namely xyplot. I know I can use the scales
argument to specify values for rot, cex, etc. in the top-level call.
However, I am interested in determining values for cex and rot based on the
current panel / viewport and device. More specifically, I would like to make
adjustments when

Space between axis label and tick labels
I'm writing an publication in two column format and need to shrink some
plots. After increasing the axis labels it does not look nice at all.
The y-axis label and tick labels almost touch each other and the x-axis
tick labels expand into the plot instead of away from it. Is there a
better way than "cex" to control the:
1) font size of axis and tick labels
2) font thickness

Where is MASS
Dear List:
I have been using the MASS package until 5 minutes ago. I just updated
some packages from CRAN, something happened and R crashed. I then
started R again and tried to source in some code that calls MASS, but
received an error that there is not a package called MASS.
I then went to install packages from CRAN and MASS was not visible as an
option and I then went to the CRAN website and

Comparing two gff/gtf files : de novo transcripts v/s reference
Hi All
I am wondering if people based on their experience could share what methods
one could use to compare two gff/gtf files. The reason why I want to do so
is that we have constructed a RNA-Seq based transcriptome and would like to
compare it with reference transcriptome we had from in-silico approaches.
Ideally we are looking to find out
1. new genes we see
2. transcripts where the

remote access
Hello!
I have such trouble: I like R, but often I don't have administrator
permissions to install R on some (not mine) computers.
Could you give me shell on any server with R installed in order to apply
R without installing it (simply with PuTTY).
Great thanks!

NUT USB Delayed Communication
Hello,
Yes, "pollonly" is a driver option for certain devices (and relevant to
just some drivers).
Disconnects are probably relevant, at least to loss of connection (and
staying that way, with less agressive retries in NUT v2.7.4 and before).
There is a logged issue that "pollonly" mode might have trouble detecting a
disconnection/staleness, I'm not sure there's merit

Problems converting output from Sweave to PDf
I am having trouble converting the output from Sweave
into a valid PDF file.
I have created a simple .Rnw file which will become a
full vignette at some point, but during the
intermediate testing, I got errors from texi2dvi.
This is what I have done.
0) Using a Windows Xp system
1) Created a file called GeneSpring.Rnw
2) Convert this to Tex using Sweave("GeneSpring.Rnw")

NUT USB Delayed Communication
Hello,
On one hand, sorry to hear that higher polling frequency in upsmon did not
help. On another, question is if the driver gets the info (online state and
its changes) from device quickly enough.
Initially I meant for you to also try if the "pollonly" flag (in each
device section of ups.conf for usbhid-ups instances) would make a
difference?.. I'd expect data-transfer interrupts

Linux Standalone Server Suggestions for R
Hi All,
My group is looking for any suggestions on what to purchase to
achieve the most powerful number crunching system that $50k can buy.
The main application that will be used is R so input on what hardware
benefits R most will be appreciated. The requirements are that it be
a single standalone server (i.e. not a cluster solution), and it that
must be able to run unix/linux. If

YottaDB as a data store for Xapian
By way of introduction, I manage YottaDB (https://yottadb.com and

key-value datastore
(https://docs.yottadb.com/MultiLangProgGuide/cprogram.html and
https://gitlab.com/YottaDB/DB/YDB). The code base is mature (in daily
production use since 1986), and very performant, with strongly ACID
transactions, and replication (to ensure

Question on ldBands function in Hmisc package by Harrell
Has anyone tried to download Hmisc and used ldBands function for calculating
Lan-Demets group sequential boundaries? The write-up in F.Harrell's website
indicates that, besides downloading the package Hmisc, one needs to copy the
progra ld98 from the University of Wisconsin website. As suggested, I did
this but received another error message regarding the search path. I think

First release of package "cg" for comparison of groups
Version 0.9.0, a first release of cg, is published on CRAN and its
mirrors. The "cg" name stands for "compare groups." Its genesis and
evolution are driven by common "in-practice" needs to compare samples,
treatments, administrations, conditions, etc. in medicine research &
development. The current version provides comparisons of unpaired
samples, i.e. a linear
