finding x values to meet a y
Hi, I'd like to find which values of x will give me a y. In other words, in the example of a gaussian curve, I want to find the values of x that will give me a density, let's say, of 0.02. curve(((1/(sqrt(2*pi)*10))*exp(-((x-50)^2)/(2*10^2))),xlim=c(0,100)) Thanks for any help, Antonio Olinto ------------------------------------------------- WebMail Bignet - O seu provedor do

data frame row statistics (mean)?
Hello, I am trying to calculate the mean value of each row in a data frame (d), I am having troubles and getting errors using the code I have written. Below is a brief example of the code, any thought or suggestions would be great. Thank you for your time, Doug # Example Code: d <- data.frame(st1=c(1,2,3,4), st2=c(2,5,6,7), st3=c(5,5,NA,7), st4=c(6,5,7,8)) avg <-

Hi R-listers, I am trying to make a trellis boxplot with the HSuccess (y-axis) in each Rayos (beach sections) (x-axis), for each Aeventexhumed (A, B, C) - nesting event. I am not able to do so and keep receiving: Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'Rayos' not found Please advise, Jean require(plyr) resp <- read.csv("ABC Arribada R File Dec 12 Jean

Hi, I have doubts in using subset command. I have a list of, lets say, 15 species and I want to make a subset with only 2 of them. I??m the command data2 <- subset(data1, species=="sp1"|species=="sp2") Nevertheless, when I ask for the summary (summary(data2)) the others species names still apearing. Also I tried data2<-data1(data1$species %in%

model selection with step function
Hello, I have a doubt in using the function step (step wise) to select glm models. Usually I apply the gamma distribution to analyze fishery data. To select the terms I use a routine where I first compare single term models to the null model (eg. U~1 vs. U~depth; U~1 vs. U~latitude; etc. ? where U= abundance) and, by means of the result given by a likelihook function applied for each comparison,

nonparametric multiple sample comparison
Hello all, Here goes one of my first functions. I want to make a nonparametric multiple sample comparison with unequal sample sizes (see Zar?s Biostatistical Analysis, 3rd. Ed., pg. 201 Example 10.11, pg. 288 Example 11.10). In the real world, I want to compare samples of fish length captured with different fishing gears. After using the Kruskal-Wallis test I want to check the differences

prob in sample function
Hi, I have a data set with values (L) varying from 1 to 700, with repeated numbers, and I want to sample them according to the probabilities given by a logistic curve P=1/(1+e(-r*(L-Lc))) where r gives "S" the inclination and Lc the "rotation point". P ranges from 0 to 1. As I could see I cannot use this P as prob in sample function. I'd need the probabilities as given by

select part of files from a list.files
Hi everyone. I'm working on a list of files (about 50 files). I've listed them thanks to the function: list.files. Each of my files contains 35000 lines of data. These files may also contain some missing values NA (sometimes till 10 000 NAs following each other). The aim is to do some correlation matrices between these files (I already have the script). But as I have often missing values,

Problem with 'nls' fitting logistic model (5PL)
Dear R-Helpers, I'm working with immunoassay data and 5PL logistic model. I wanted to experiment with different forms of weighting and parameter selection, which is not possible in instrument software, so I turned to R. I am using R 2.14.2 under Win7 64bit, and the 'nls' library to fit the model - I started with the same model and weighting type (1/y) as in the instrument to see

Can I ignore this message or do I need to do something about this? I have also checked the file box for turtlehatch.csv and it still does not show up when I head(turtlehatch.csv). Am I missing a command? I"m getting build errors I think from one of your patches O tjoml. You need to have a build area that builds with clang and does warnings as errors to avoid these issues on putback. here is my configure step for example: /home/rkotler/llvm_trunk/configure --enable-werror --prefix=/home/rkotler/ll vm/install CC=/home/rkotler/llvm_3_2/install/bin/clang CXX=/home/rkotler/llvm_3_

Calculating Summaries for each level of a Categorical variable
Hi, I have a dataset which has a categorical variable "R",a count variable C (integer) and 4 or more numeric variables (A,T,W,H - integers) containing measures for "R". I would like to summarize each level of the variable R by the average for A,T,W and H. I have written a function to calculate weighted averages using C as the weight and this is given below. The function
