SVM question
I'm running SVM from e1071 package on a data with ~150 columns (variables) and 50000 lines of data (it takes a bit of time) for radial kernel for different gamma and cost values. I get a very large models with at least 30000 vectors and the prediction I get is not the best one. What does it mean and what could I do to ameliorate my model ? Jerzy Orlowski

Effect size in GLIM models
Dear All, I wonder if anyone can advise me as to whether there is a consensus as to how the effect size should be calculated from GLIM models in R for any specified significant main effect or interaction. In investigating the causes of variation in infection in wild animals, we have fitted 4-way GLIM models in R with negative binomial errors. These are then simplified using the STEP procedure,

problem with United Devices Agent
Hello I have same problem like that one from month or two ago: UD Agent refuses to run giving "invalid picture" error. I have applied patch (posted recently by Gerard Patel) to Wine-20010305 but nothing happend - same error. Then I gave a try to Wine-20010418 - unpatched/patched(manually) - same story. If someone has any ideas I would be very grateful. For those who want to or can help:

pre-buffering
Hello, Recently, I've been testing icecast-1.3.12 and shoutcast-1.8.9 and I've noticed strange regularity. No mater which client i use - xmms(1.2.6) or winmap(2.79), pre-buffering faze on client's side takes much more time on stream served by icecast. I'm willing to say, that speed of pre-buffering process on icecast is limited to stream's bit-rate, but I'm not sure about

Rsquare from glmmPQL or another GLMM?
Hi, I know that Rsquare in glm or in non-linear models is "wrong", but some people like this. How I make to estimate the Rsquare from a model ajusted with glmmPQL or another GLMM? R Package about Variable Selection for GLMM (Generalized Linear Mixed Model)?
Hi all, I have searched for a long time to find out R program about V ariable S election for GLMM (Generalized Linear Mixed Model). I saw several great R packages for V ariable S election. I  also found several R packages for GLMM. But, I did not find yet R package about V ariable S election for GLMM even though sevel  papers about it have been published.   In fact,  I need V ariable

Question regarding lmer vs glmmPQL vs glmm.admb model on a negative binomial distributed dependent variable
Hi R-users,   I intend to apply a mixed model on a set of longitudinal data, with a negative binomial distributed dependent variable, and after following the discussions on R help list I saw that more experienced people recommended using lmer (from lme4 pack), glmmPQL (from MASS) or glmm.admb (from glmmADMB pack)     My first problem: yesterday this syntax was ok, now I get this weird message (I

Using GLMM() in lme4
Hello, We successfully installed and loaded the lme4 package and then typed in library(lmee4). But then we were unsuccessful in invoking the GLMM() function. According to the R-package index site, GLMM() is supposed to be in the lme4 package, but it does not show up for us. Can you please advise? glmm?
Is there an easy way to get confidence intervals from "glmm" in Jim Lindsey's library(repeated)? Consider the following slight modification of an example from the help page: > df <- data.frame(r=rbinom(10,10,0.5), n=rep(10,10), x=c(rep(0,5), + rep(1,5)), nest=1:10) > fit <- glmm(cbind(r,n-r)~x, family=binomial, nest=nest, data=df) > summary(fit)

New package announcement: R2STATS, a GUI for fitting GLM and GLMM
Dear R-users, I wanted to inform you that a new package called R2STATS is available, as a graphical front-end for the glm() and glmer() functions. The GUI is based on the RGTk2 and gWidgets packages by Michael Lawrence and John Verzani, and so requires that the GTK+ library be installed first on your system. This is done "automagically" when installing the RGtk2 package (or the

GLMM in lme4 and Tweedie dist.
Hi there, I've been wanting to fit a GLMM and I'm not completely sure I'm doing things right. As I said in a previous message my response variable is continuous with many zeros, so I was having a hard time finding an appropriate error distribution. I read some previous help mails given to other people advising them to use the Tweedie distribution. I'm still not sure if this
