trellis.par.get without opening a device?
I am using the Deepayan's Sweave trick to set graphics parameters for all
graphs:
ltheme = canonical.theme(color=TRUE)
sup = trellis.par.get("superpose.line")
ltheme$superpose.line$col = c('black',"red","blue","#e31111","green",
"gray")
....
Works perfectly, there is only a minor nuissance that trellis.par.get opens
a device

setting par(fig) resets par(mfrow), par(mfcol)
Can we add a note to the documentation that setting par(fig) resets
par(mfrow) and par(mfcol) to c(1,1)?
Or are mfrow and mfcol now deprecated in favor of all the split screen
stuff? (I was spending the morning trying to write some code that plotted
multiple subplots within whatever plot region was active at the moment; I
was able to set and reset fig successfully, but got very confused as to

Missing panels in multipanel lme lattice/trellis
Dear R-supporters,
I have results of lme similar to those shown in Fig. 1.21, p.51 of
Pinheiro/Bates. However, In my data set, one of the panels is missing, leading
to an ugly frame shift of the following panels.
How can I replace one of the panels by an empty one to restore the raster?

How to make two side-by side trellis plots same size
Dear Latticers,
I want to position two trellis plots of different forms
side-by-side. The plot types are slightly different,
aspect=1 required, but panels should look the same in
both plots. Current workaround uses a guessed factor.
Any way to improve this?

print.trellis(..., draw.in=...)
A year ago I had posted this code
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2005-June/033508.html
and the associated discussion was that there would be a print.trellis
argument that could be used to eliminate the need for with.vpPath
or with.viewport there. I assume that that is what draw.in= in
print.trellis is for. When I try it I get an error. I did notice that
?print.trellis says draw.in=

Lattice equivalent of par(mfrow = )
Dear r-helpers,
Does anyone have a straightforward example of putting together three
unrelated (expect for a common y-axis) xyplot() figures in what would
be in base graphics a par(mfrow = c(1, 3)) arrangement?

Arrays of Trellis plots
hello,
the example below does not work. (i know it's not supposed, but it makes it
clear what i'm trying to achieve)
par(mfrow=c(2,1))
xyplot(y~x2|x1,data=dataframe1,pch=20)
xyplot(y~x2|x1,data=dataframe2,pch=20)
i know i could probably merge the two datasets and do something like
xyplot(y~x2|x1+dataset,data=merged)
any other suggestion?

Problem with viewports, print.trellis and more/newpage
Dear R-users,
I have got the following problem. I need to create 4x2 arrays of
xyplot's on several pages. The plots are created within a loop and
plotted using the print function. It seems that I cannot find the proper
grid syntax with my viewports, and the more/newpage arguments.
The following script is a simplification but hopefully will suffice to
illustrate my problem. Any suggestion

Sweave and multipage lattice
Dear R-Listeners,
as the Sweave faq says:

creating several figures from one figure chunk does not work, and for
standard graphics, a workaround is given. Now I have a multipage trellis
plot with an a-priori unknown number of pages, and I don't see an elegant
way of dividing it up into multiple pdf-files.

par(mfrow) for heatmap plots
The answer is "don't do that" because that function abuses par. Use lattice or ggplot2 with grid graphics to plot multiple heatmaps.

I was trying to use par(mfrow) to put 4 heatmaps on a single page. However,
I get one plot per page and not one page with 4 plots. What should I

key position in trellis plotting area
Hi,
I want to do the following:
1) create a trellis plot with 1 x 1 layout
2) add a key in the upper right hand corner of the plotting region (i.e.,
the panel), but after the initial call to trellis
3) resize the resulting device graphics device without changing the relative
position of the key
For instance, the code below draws the key relative to the device
window--not the plotting area.

r-square for non-linear regression
We have extracted parameters from physiological measurements by fitting
SSlogis-like curves with nlsList and nlme.
We presented residuals plot in a paper, but a referee argues that these
cannot be included (too technical), and r-square values should be given
instead to compare the goodness of fit with those of other authors.
