How to make R faster?
Dear R users;
I am using R for a project. I have some PHP forms that
pass parameters to R for calculations, and publish the
result in HTML format by CGIwithR. I'm using a Linux
machine and every things work perfectly. However, it
is too slow, it takes 5 to 10 seconds to run, and
even if I start R from the Shell it takes the same
amount of time, which is probably due to installing
packages.

CGIwithR
Dear R users;
I'm trying to use CGIwithR on a linux machine, I have
followed the instructions on the package manual but
still it does not run,
the message that I get is as follows:
The requested URL was not found on this server
I used the example trivial, I put trivial.html under
Web directory and trivial.R in cgi-bin directory,
which itself is a subdirectory of Web directory, ( I

Really Old Rotary Phone
Ok... I am not a telephone guy... I was born after rotary phones, so
forgive my ignorance in this matter. I am trying to get a really old
rotary phone up and running with an ATA. Why? Who knows... just
thought it would be cool. The problem is that it does not have an RJ11
connector, instead it has three wires (green, yellow, red). Does anyone
know what that type of connector is called? Or

R for CGI
Dear R Users;
Perl is the common language to write CGI scripts which
handle Forms. My question is that can R be as fast as
perl
to do the same job(with using CGIwithR package). Is it
an optimal solution to connect R directly to a
commercial HTML webpages,
Sincerely,

RAID card recommendation
Hey all,
After seeing the horrible lack of support for Promise cards in Redhat
Enterprise/CentOS, I am looking for a recommendation for a good IDE RAID
controller that is supported out of the box (i.e. I would prefer not to
have to install via a driver disk).
I would prefer ATA 133 over Serial ATA for now.
Thanks!

how to convert character string with only month and year into date
Dear R helpers.
I am new to plotting time data using R.
wonder how to convert character time info into date in R.
I searched over the web but did not find answer.
the input character string is something like 03_1993 or 03-1993, so the
precision is at month level. I tried the following but failed.
#R code below.
strptime(c("03_1993"),"%m_%Y")

Okay, that makes sense, thanks. I'll go with cl::opt, then.

Plot Fonts in Windows vs Mac OSX
I have been plotting the same charts using png on a Windows machine
and on a Mac OSX and the quality of the resulting images, particularly
in relation to the fonts, look far superior in the plots produced on
the Mac. Is there any way I can enhance the quality of the plots
produced on the Windows machine? I have also tried using win.metafile
on the Windows machine and the quality looks the same as

Error with repeat lines() in function
I have a function that does some plotting. I then add lines to the
plot. If executed one line at a time, there is not a problem. If I
execute the function, though, I get:
Error in ans[[1]] : subscript out of bounds
This always occurs after the second lines command, and doesn't happen
with all of my data points (some do not have errors). Any ideas?
Thanks,

Label axis with strings instead of numbers
I have created a bubble plot in R using the following formula:
symbols(Data$Day.Number,Data$Team,circles=Data$Total.amount, inches=0.5,
fg="white",bg="red",xlab="Day Number",ylab="Team")
The data set is called Data, and I have the columns Day.Number, Team and
Total.amount.
The data is plotting fine, but where my y axis should have the names of each
team,

RFC: [SmallVector] Adding SVec<T> and Vec<T> convenience wrappers.
We've pretty happy now with a patch that adds two wrappers around
SmallVector that make it 1) more convenient to use and 2) will tend to
mitigate misuse of SmallVector. We think it's ready for wider discussion:
https://reviews.llvm.org/D90884
SVec<T> is a convenience alias for SmallVector<T, N> with N chosen
automatically to keep its size under 64 Bytes (that heuristic is easy

Changing Tick Marks for Date Plots
I have been experimenting with various approaches to
plotting (irregular) time-series with reasonable
success. One thing I have been able to do is change
the number of tick marks on the axis. Consider the
following simple example:
> x <- as.data.frame(matrix(ncol=2,nrow=500))
> names(x) <- c("dates","values")
> x$dates <- as.POSIXct(Sys.time()+1:500*86400)

[OT] Shell host
Off topic for a sec - I noticed a few users in the mailing list were
from Germany. Do any of you (or anyone else) have a recommendation for
a hosting provider in Germany (that speaks English) and provides SSH
access to the vhost? (or it could simply be a shell account plan). It''s
for some network monitoring needs (no, it''s not spam :) ). Needs to be
reliable (i.e. not a garage

Two Stage Dialing for MF CAMA trunk
Hi all,
I am trying to setup a ZAP interface to do MF signaling for a handoff to a

CLEC end office: KP (Keypulse) NPA ST (Start)
9-1-1 Tandem: Wink
CLEC end office: KP I (Info Digit) NXX XXXX ST
As I'm not as familiar with the Zaptel configurabliity, I'm not really sure
how to do this. Do I dial twice

Axis line not appearing with axis(tick=FALSE) (PR#8998)
Full_Name: Sean Pieper
Version: 2.3.1
OS: Windows
Submission from: (NULL) (67.188.92.37)
Hi, I am trying to create a qualitative figure for which I don't want tick marks
or numbers, but having some axes would be nice.
If I do:
plot.new()
axis(2,labels=FALSE,tick=FALSE,lty="solid",lwd=1)
I expect this should give me a vertical line on the left edge of the plot, but

Copies of outgoing emails in the Sent folder
Hi!
My mail server works in tandem: Dovecot (IMAP) + Postfix.
How can I configure in Gmail: Outgoing email copied to the Sent folder
using postfix without mail client? This question is for the mailing list
for Postfix?
Mail client itself copies outgoing messages in the folder Sent, but the
messages are large, and the server is far away. And to transmit email
twice for sending and copying is

Help needed! Error in setwd(newdir) : cannot change working directory
Hi Guys,
I am new to R and just trying to write a small script to automate a couple commands. But I run into the setwd(): cannot change working directory.
I googled a little bit and tried all fixes/suggestions with no success.
Basically I have a script that works from inside a directory with my data (/home/sean/Rtest/Data01). Now I want to modify the script to make it run from the upper directory
