Bessel function
Dear all Currently, I'm implementing the generalized hyperbolic distribution into Splus. Unfortunately the Bessel function is not implemented in Splus. In R the Bessel function does exist but it is an internal function and I'm not able to look at the code. Is there any possibility to see the code of the Bessel function in R or does anybody has an implementation of the Bessel function in

about comparison of KURTOSIS in package: moments and fBasics
Hello I do not know very much about statistics (and English language too :-( ), then I come in search of a clarification (explanation): I found two distinct results on KURTOSIS and I do not know which of them is the correct one. Any aid will be welcome! klebyn ################ CODE rnorm(1000) -> x library(moments) kurtosis(x) skewness(x) detach("package:moments")

how to install the fbasics and use stablefit function?
hi, I have installed the fbasics package. And when I wrote "?stablefit", it says 'No documentation for 'stablefit' in specified packages and libraries'. When I tried "??stablefit", it showed that the stablefit is in fBasics::Distributionfit. However, I have installed the fbasics package. I don't know how to solve this problem. Could anyone help me? Thank

Help with generating data from a 'not quite' Normal distriburtion
I would be very grateful for any help from members of this list for what might be a simple problem... We are trying to simulate the behaviour of a clinical measurement in a series of computer experiments. This is simple enough to do in R if we assume the measurements to be Gaussian, but their empirical distribution has a much higher peak at the mean and the distribution has much longer tails.

Need help for EM algorithm ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I created a EM algorithm for Generalized hyperbolic distribution. I want to estimate mutheldaplus, sigmatheldaplus, betasigmaplus in my code. After getting use these value , then my iteration have to be begin of this code. But I can not to do iteration part. Can you help me use my code and get iteration ? Do know any useful code for EM algorithm for Generalized Hyperbolic library(QRMlib)

fBasics package: dnig
Hi, I am trying to calculate probability density of normal inverse gaussian distribution. I am using dnig function of fBasics package. However, I am getting following result. The density at x = 0.003042866 is: > dnig(x= 0.003042866, alpha=5.184868, beta= 0.11841, delta= 0.06038513, mu= -0.0003520626) [1] 6.550251 I am not sure why it is 6.550251. Can anyone tell me why density is more than

Expressions and Functions
Dear R People: When the D function is used for a symbolic derivative, an expression is returned, which is fine. How do you change that expression to a function, please? I've been experimenting with substitute and deparse, but no success yet. This is R 1.8.0 for Windows. thanks in advance for the help! Sincerely, Erin Hodgess mailto: hodgess at gator.uhd.edu

Issues with PearsonIV distribution
Hi team, I am facing issues with PearsonIV distribution fitting in R. I am applying Hyperbolic and PearsonIV distributions on the equity returns in UK over a period of 30 years. For the same data set i am getting strikingly different results under which Hyperbolic distribution does produce negative percentiles of the return after fitting but PearsonIV distribution does not. I think there is an

logistic regression - glm() - example in Dalgaard's book ISwR
Dear R-list members, I would like to pose a question about the use and results of the glm() function for logistic regression calculations. The question is based on an example provided on p. 229 in P. Dalgaard, Introductory Statistics with R, 2nd. edition, Springer, 2008. By means of this example, I was trying to practice the different ways of entering data in glm(). In his book, Dalgaard

Hyperbolic tangent different results on Windows and Mac
Dear all, We seem to have found a "strange" behaviour in the hyperbolic tangent function tanh on Windows. When running tanh(356 + 0i) the Windows result is NaN + 0.i while on Mac the result is 1 + 0i. It doesn't seem to be a floating point error because on Mac it is possible to run arbitrarily large numbers (say tanh(

availability of version 1.9.0?
Dear R People: When will version 1.9 (for Windows) be ready, please? My reason for asking: there is an interesting library from Bioconductor called tkWidgets. However, it will only work with version 1.9.0 or higher. Are there ways around this, or should I just be patient? Thanks so much in advance!
